The possible discovery of three-ray pulsars 0656 + 14, 0950 + 08, and 1822 - 09 based on COS-B data analysis is reported. Their light curves, the other related features, and the methods leading to these results are also given. It is thought that the large-scale solar-cycle magnetic field is generated in a thin region at the interface of the radiative core (RC) and solar convection zone (SCZ). We show that the bulk of the SCZ virogoursly generates a small-scale turbulent magnetic field. Rotation, while not essential, increases the generation rate of this field.Thus, fully convective stars should have significant turbulent magnetic fields generated in their lower convection zones. In these stars the absence of a radiative core, i.e., the absence of a region of weak buoyancy, precludes the generation of a large-scale magnetic field, and as a consequence the angular momentum loss is reduced. This is, in our opinion, the explanation for the rapid rotation of the M-dwarfs in the Hyades cluster.Adopting the Utrecht's group terminology, we argue that the residual chromospheric emission should have three distinctive components: the basal emission, the emission due to the large-scale field, and the emission due to the turbulent field, with the last component being particularly strong for low mass stars.In the conventional dynamo equations, the dynamo frequencies and the propagation of the dynamo wave towards the equator are based on the highly questionable assumption of a constant . Furthermore, meridional motions, a necessary consequence of the interaction of rotation with convection, are ignored. In this context we discuss Stenflo's results about the global wave pattern decomposition of the solar magnetic field and conclude that it cannot be interpreted in the framework of the conventional dynamo equations.We discuss solar dynamo theories and argue that the surface layers could be essential for the generation of the poloidal field. If this is the case an -effect would not be needed at the RC-SCZ interface (where the toroidal field is generated). As climate change may modify the hydrological cycle significantly, understanding the impact on river flow is important because it affects long‐term water resources planning. Here, we describe a high‐resolution British assessment of changes in river flows in the 2050s under 11 different realisations of HadRM3. In winter, river flows may either increase or decrease, with a wide range of possible decreases in summer flow. We reconstructed a chronology of glaciation spanning from the Late Pleistocene through the late Holocene for Fish Lake valley in the north‐eastern Alaska Range using 10Be surface exposure dating and lichenometry. After it attained its maximum late Wisconsin extent, the Fish Lake valley glacier began to retreat ca. 16.5 ka, and then experienced a readvance or standstill at 11.6 ± 0.3 ka. Evidence of the earliest Holocene glacial activity in the valley is a moraine immediately in front of Little Ice Age (LIA) moraines and is dated to 3.3–3.0 ka. A subsequent advance culminated at ca. AD 610–900 and several LIA moraine crests date to AD 1290, 1640, 1860 and 1910. Our results indicate that 10Be dating from high‐elevation sites can be used to help constrain late Holocene glacial histories in Alaska, even when other dating techniques are unavailable. Close agreement between 10Be and lichenometric ages reveal that 10Be ages on late Holocene moraines may be as accurate as other dating methods. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Bottom sediments near shipyards are often susceptible to receiving accidental spills of TBT and metals or their degradation products from hull scraping of antifouling system paints applied prior to 2008, when the AFS Convention 2001 was not in force. We investigated TBT and metal contamination of sediments near the shipyards of a small marina located in Busan, Korea and found that they were highly contaminated with TBT, Cu, and Zn. To better understand the environmental impacts and to make an optimal remediation plan, we characterized individual antifouling fragments in terms of metal and TBT contents, magnetic properties, and grain-size. Coarse-sized individual antifouling fragments exhibited simultaneously high levels of TBT, metals and high magnetic susceptibility, and appeared to be a major source of pollution in the sediment. Therefore, magnetic separation in combination with size-separation appears to be a cost-effective remediation method to remove the TBT and metals from contaminated shipyard sediments. 相似文献

Using the Submillimeter Array (SMA), we have obtained high angular-resolution (∼1″) interferometric maps of the submillimeter
(0.88 mm) continuum and CO J=3–2 line from IRAS 22036+5306 (I 22036), a bipolar pre-planetary nebula (PPN) with knotty jets discovered in our HST SNAPshot
survey of young PPNe. In addition, we have obtained supporting lower-resolution (∼10″) 2.6 mm continuum and CO, 13CO J=1–0 observations with the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) interferometer. We find an unresolved source of submillimeter
(and millimeter-wave) continuum emission in I 22036, implying a very substantial mass (0.02–0.04M
⊙) of large (i.e., radius ≳1 mm), cold (≲50 K) dust grains associated with I 22036’s toroidal waist. The CO J=3–2 observations show the presence of a very fast (∼220 km s−1), highly collimated, massive (0.03M
⊙) bipolar outflow with a very large scalar momentum (about 1039 g cm s−1), and the characteristic spatio-kinematic structure of bow-shocks at the tips of this outflow. The fast outflow in I 22036,
as in most PPNe, cannot be driven by radiation pressure. The large mass of the torus suggests that it has most likely resulted
from common-envelope evolution in a binary, however it remains to be seen whether or not the time-scales required for the
growth of grains to millimeter sizes in the torus are commensurate with such a formation scenario. The presence of the torus
should facilitate the formation of the accretion disk needed to launch the jet. We also find that the 13C/12C ratio in I 22036 is very high (0.16), close to the maximum value achieved in equilibrium CNO-nucleosynthesis (0.33). The
combination of the high circumstellar mass (i.e., in the torus and an extended dust shell inferred from ISO far-infrared spectra)
and the high 13C/12C ratio in I 22036 provides strong support for this object having evolved from a massive (≳4M
⊙) progenitor in which hot-bottom-burning has occurred. 相似文献
