The long-term modulation of galactic cosmic rays is investigated from 1957 up to 1992 analysing the dynamic and the quasi-stationary components, separately. It has been found that the dynamic component is characterized by the presence of two peaks at the maximum phase of each solar activity cycle. We infer that the time interval between the two peaks corresponds to a period (well-related to the polar heliomagnetic reversal) in which somewhat decreased activity occurs for intense and long-lasting solar events. In fact, a contemporary dip in the magnetic energy released from the Sun was observed, in agreement with the suggested double maximum displayed by the basic features of the 11-year solar-activity cycle (Gnevyshev, 1977, and references therein). Moreover, the dynamic component of cosmic-ray modulation often shows a multi-structured profile in both peaks of activity, fairly well-connected with the pattern of the green corona brightness. On the other hand, analysing the quasi-stationary long-term trend of cosmic-ray intensity we pick out a good relationship between periods of enhanced cosmic-ray modulation and the area expansion of coronal intensity levels. The relevance of our results for solar-terrestrial forecasting is underlined.  相似文献

In the last few years, the spatial distribution of old, isolated neutron stars has become of great interest (see, for example, Treves and Colpi (1991)). Several sources of this size have been observed by ROSAT. We present here a computer model of the distribution of the luminosity produced by old, isolated neutron stars accreting from the interstellar medium.We use direct calculations of trajectories in the Galaxy potential, taken in the form given by Paczynski (1990). The system of differential equations was solved numerically. We made calculations on a grid with cell size 100 pc in the R direction and 10 pc in the Z direction (centered at R=50 pc, Z=5 pc and so on). Stars were born in the Galactic plane with a specified velocity distribution corresponding to non-symmetrical supernova explosions.In our model, we assumed that the birth rate of neutron stars is proportional to the square of the local density. The local density was calculated using the data and formulas of Bochkarev (1993) and Zane et al. (1995). We then calculated the luminosity using the Bondi formula (in the inner kiloparsec our results are only a rough estimate).We show that for various mean velocities for the old isolated neutron stars, the distribution of the luminosity has a torus-like structure, with the maximum at 5kpc. Since we made very general assumptions, we argue that this type of distribution is not unique to our Galaxy, and all spiral galaxies should have such a distribution of the luminosity density, associated with accreting old, isolated neutron stars.  相似文献

A number of symbiotic stars have been observed with ISO. In addition to a number of emission lines, SWS observations of the symbiotic novae RR Tel and V1016 Cyg reveal prominent, broad 10 & 18 μm silicate dust features. The 10 μm features are similar to the crystalline silicate profiles seen in classical novae. There is some evidence that the silicate brightness in V1016 Cyg varies with Mira-component phase. However, the silicate feature in RR Tel also showed some variation even though observations were made at very similar Mira-component phases. PHT observations of S-type symbiotic stars show the IR emission to be dominated by the red-giant component. However, an excess in the PHT-P filters from 10 to 15 μm is evident in all the stars, and there may be a broad 3.2 μm absorption feature or a broad 3.8 μm emission feature. At this time we have no adequate physical explanations for any of these features. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The light curves, obtained by the authors of the present paper during the period 1978–1992, of the chromospherically active binary system RT Lac were examined. The average (B–V) colour indices were obtained and corrected for the interstellar extinction. Spectroscopic studies indicate that the less massive component may be taken as G8. The light curve analysis indicates that the less massive, larger component fills its corresponding Roche lobe. Both photometric and spectroscopic observations compel one to draw a conclusion that circumstellar matter does exist around the binary system. A colour excess caused by this matter is found to be 0.278 for B–V colour at mid–secondary eclipse. On the basis of photometric colour indices alone, the components of RT Lac are classified as G3–4 and G8. If we use the observed radial velocities of the less massive subgiant star from Ca II emission lines and from other optical lines we find for the mass of the more massive component as 1.34–1.70 M. This mass range corresponds to the main sequence late F stars. The common envelope hypothesis and mass function and also blending of the spectral lines of more massive component point out that it should be at most a late F type main sequence star.  相似文献

Oscillatory spectra of solar quiescent prominences highlight the importance of incorporating the effect of prominence fine-structure in the theory of prominence oscillations. We determine the magnetohydrodynamic modes of oscillation of an elementary, zero- model of a prominence fibril, arguing that the fast body kink modes, namely, the string and the internal magnetic Love modes, produce the observed short periodicities in prominence fine-structures. Estimates for the periods of these modes are presented: the modes are subject to testing in future high-resolution observations.  相似文献

This paper summarises the X-ray properties of NGC 1068 from the observers perspective and reports new observations with the ROSAT HRI. Below ? 2 keV, the spectrum is steep and probably represents thermal emission from gas with temperature kT ? 0.1 - 0.6 keV. Above ? 2 keV, the spectrum is much flatter and may be described by a power-law with energy index α ? 0.3. Images with the ROSAT HRI reveal that about half the X-ray flux in the 0.1 - 2.4 keV band is extended on scales > 5″ (360 pc). Recent ROSAT PSPC observations of starburst galaxies show integrated soft X-ray spectra which are very similar to that of NGC 1068 below 2 keV. The spatially extended, steep, soft X-ray emission of NGC 1068 probably originates through thermal emission from a hot wind driven by the disk starburst, the Seyfert nucleus or a combination of the two. On the other hand, the hard emission above 2 keV is almost certainly dominated by the Seyfert nucleus.  相似文献

The relevance of interaction to the presence of Seyfert or starburst activity in the nuclei of galaxies is examined. We focus the attention on the close environments of spectroscopically selected samples of Seyfert-1, Seyfert-2 and starburst galaxies. In particular the results of a statistical procedure aimed at finding physical pairs are tested with redshift measurements of the identified pairs. Seyfert and starburts galaxies show an excess of physical companions compared to normal galaxies. This excess tends to increase as one moves from Seyfert to starburst galaxies.  相似文献

Photoelectric observations of the WR binary CQ Cephei (WN6+O9) are presented. the depths of the eclipses in the light curves are best represented by an inclination of the orbit i = (68°.8±0.6) and the width of the very asymmetric eclipse curves can be represented by only an overcontact configuration (Ω1 = Ω2 = 3.65 ± 0.05, and f = 27%). Simultaneous solution of the light and radial velocity curves strongly supports CQ Cep's membership of the Cep OB1 association. By considering this membership we obtained absolute dimensions of the system, which lead to a consistent physical model for CQ Cephei. The more luminous WR primary turns out to be the hotter but slightly less massive component: MWR = 20.8 M⊙, RWR = 8.2R⊙, Teff(WR) = 43600 K, and Mo = 21.4 M⊙, Ro = 8.3 R⊙, Teff(O) = 37000 K.  相似文献

Equipment has been developed to display in colour any circular polarization in the dynamic spectra of solar radio emissions.
