Melting experiments have been performed at 3 GPa, between 1150 and 1450 °C, on a phlogopite-peridotite source in the garnet stability field. We succeeded to extract and determine the melt compositions of both phlogopite-bearing lherzolite and harzburgite from low to high degrees of melting (? = 0.008–0.256). Accounting for the presence of small amounts of F in the mantle, we determined that phlogopite coexists with melt >150 °C above the solidus position (1150–1200 °C). Fluorine content of phlogopite continuously increases during partial melting from 0.2 to 0.9 wt% between 1000 and 1150 °C and 0.5 to 0.6 wt% between 1150 and 1300 °C at 1 and 3 GPa, respectively. The phlogopite continuous breakdown in the lherzolite follows the reaction: 0.59 phlogopite + 0.52 clinopyroxene + 0.18 garnet = 0.06 olivine + 0.23 orthopyroxene + 1.00 melt. In the phlogopite-harzburgite, the reaction is: 0.93 phlogopite + 0.46 garnet = 0.25 olivine + 0.14 orthopyroxene + 1.00 melt. Melts from phlogopite-peridotite sources at 3 GPa are silica-undersaturated and are foiditic to trachybasaltic in composition from very low (0.8 wt%) to high (25.6 wt%) degrees of melting. As observed at 1 GPa, the potassium content of primary mantle melts is buffered by the presence of phlogopite, but the buffering values are higher, from 6.0 to 8.0 wt% depending on the source fertility. We finally show that phlogopite garnet-peridotite melts are very close to the composition of the most primitive post-collisional lavas described worldwide.  相似文献

Two outcrop sections spanning the Paleocene–early Eocene boundary in the Sidi Nasseur–Wadi Mezaz area in northwest Tunisia provided rich ostracode assemblages, yielding 26 species of which three are newly described: Reymenticosta bassiounii, Reymenticosta nasseurensis and Buntonia? tunisiensis. The recorded ostracode fauna and associated foraminifera reflect deposition in a coastal to inner neritic environment. Many of the recorded taxa have a wide geographic distribution throughout the Middle East and North Africa. A correspondence is also observed with West African faunas, especially in the early Eocene fauna. These taxa seem to have originated in West Africa during the Paleocene and migrated northwards during the late Paleocene to early Eocene. Sea-level change and decrease in oxygenation associated with the Paleocene–Eocene thermal maximum (PETM) caused the local disappearance of the South Tethyan Paleocene fauna represented by Paracosta kefensis (morphotype-A), Paracosta aff. paleomokattamensis, Paracypris sp. B Esker, Loxoconcha saharaensis, Buntonia sp. 3 Donze et al., Protobuntonia nakkadii, and probably Reymenticosta bassiounii and R. nasseurensis. Simultaneously, a new but poorly diverse Afro-Tethyan fauna, mainly represented by Alocopocythere attitogonensis and Buntonia? tunisiensis, settled in the studied part of the basin. After the PETM, diversity increased again as various taxa (e.g. Bairdia aegyptiaca, Reticulina lamellata and Aegyptiana duwiensis) (re)appeared. Although detailed records across the P/E boundary are still sparse, it appears that the PETM exerted significant influence on the paleobiogeography and composition of Tethyan ostracode faunas.  相似文献

The crystallinity of natural and synthetic apatite samples is often determined from the broadening of ν 4 PO4 infrared absorption bands. However, various physical mechanisms contribute to the observed linewidth. In the present study, the factors determining the linewidth in the powder spectrum of synthetic fluorapatite and hydroxyapatite samples are investigated. The temperature dependence of the infrared spectrum (10–270 K) is used to assess the respective contributions of homogeneous broadening, related to the decay of phonons through anharmonic coupling, and heterogeneous broadening related to elastic strain and macroscopic electrostatic effects. This latter contribution is dominant in the investigated samples and depends on the shape of powder particles. It is discussed under the light of the theoretical modeling of the low-frequency dielectric properties of apatite based on first-principles density functional theory calculations. The linewidth of the weak ν 1 PO4 absorption band provides a reliable information on microscopic sources of broadening, i.e., apatite crystallinity. In comparison, the other more intense PO4 bands are more sensitive to long-range electrostatic effects.  相似文献

Decision-makers have confirmed the long term objective of preventing a temperature increase greater than 2 °C. This paper aims at appraising by means of a cost-benefit analysis whether decision makers’ commitment to meet the 2 °C objective is credible or not. Within the framework of a cost-benefit type integrated assessment model, we consider that the economy faces climate damages with a threshold at 2 °C. We run the model for a broad set of scenarios accounting for the diversity of “worldviews” in the climate debate. For a significant share of scenarios we observe that it is considered optimal to exceed the threshold. Among those “non-compliers” we discriminate ”involuntary non-compliers” who cannot avoid the exceedance due to physical constraint from ”deliberate compliers” for whom the exceedance results from a deliberate costs-benefit analysis. A second result is that the later mitigation efforts begin, the more difficult it becomes to prevent the exceedance. In particular, the number of ”deliberate non-compliers” dramatically increases if mitigation efforts do not start by 2020, and the influx of involuntary non-compliers become overwhelming f efforts are delayed to 2040. In light of these results we argue that the window of opportunity for reaching the 2 °C objective with a credible chance of success is rapidly closing during the present decade. Further delay in finding a climate agreement critically undermines the credibility of the objective.  相似文献

Using concrete examples of conservation of farm animal genetic resources, we show that conservation and development should not be considered as two opposing processes. On the contrary, their synergies can facilitate conservation dynamics. Spores of coprophilous fungi, especially Sporormiella, are often well preserved in lake sediment cores. It has been hypothesized that such spores can be used to quantify past livestock abundance. The quantitative relationship between fungal spore abundance and livestock populations, however, is not well established, nor are the mechanisms of spore transport and deposition in lacustrine systems. Multiple cores from Lake Allos, a large high-elevation lake in the French Alps, were used to map the modern abundance of Sordaria and Sporormiella spores throughout the lake. We observed high spatial heterogeneity with respect to spore numbers. No correlation with the distance from shoreline was found. There was, however, a relation with distance from the two main lake inlets. These results were used to select two fungi-rich sediment cores to investigate grazing pressure over the last two centuries. Comparisons were made between spore influx and historic data on livestock densities in the catchment. A sharp decrease in Sporormiella influx ca. 1894–1895 was associated with a reported reduction in sheep in the Allos catchment at that time. Mean influx of Sporormiella decreased by a factor of three between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, reflecting a reduction in the reported number of animals in the Lake Allos catchment, from 6,000 to 2,000. This study confirmed that Sporormiella spore abundance in lake sediments can be used as a proxy for catchment herbivore numbers in paleoecological reconstructions. Nevertheless, our data indicate that before spore accumulation can be used to infer past domestic herbivore density, one must understand the processes of coprophilous spore transfer from the catchment to the lake and the influence of core location on spore numbers in the sediment.  相似文献

The southern Alps–Ligurian basin junction is one of the most seismically active zone of the western Europe. A constant microseismicity and moderate size events (3.5 < M < 5) are regularly recorded. The last reported historical event took place in February 1887 and reached an estimated magnitude between 6 and 6.5, causing human losses and extensive damages (intensity X, Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik). Such an event, occurring nowadays, could have critical consequences given the high density of population living on the French and Italian Riviera. We study the case of an offshore Mw 6.3 earthquake located at the place where two moderate size events (Mw 4.5) occurred recently and where a morphotectonic feature has been detected by a bathymetric survey. We used a stochastic empirical Green’s functions (EGFs) summation method to produce a population of realistic accelerograms on rock and soil sites in the city of Nice. The ground motion simulations are calibrated on a rock site with a set of ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs) in order to estimate a reasonable stress-drop ratio between the February 25th, 2001, Mw 4.5, event taken as an EGF and the target earthquake. Our results show that the combination of the GMPEs and EGF techniques is an interesting tool for site-specific strong ground motion estimation.  相似文献

应用离子探针技术对山东蓬莱新生代玄武岩中橄榄岩包体的主要组成矿物进行了原位测定,结果显示了强烈偏离正 常地幔矿物组成和平衡的Li 含量和同位素比值。橄榄石、斜方辉石和单斜辉石的Li 含量和δ7Li 分别为(2.0~10.4)×10-6, (2.8~23.8)×10-6 和(3.3~59.7)×10-6;-28.6‰ ~+0.5‰,-12.7‰ ~+12.8‰和-41.5‰ ~+22.6‰。这种强烈的非平衡体系反 映了最近强烈和复杂的地幔交代作用。辉石的高Li(~ 60×10-6)和δ7Li(~ +20‰)反映了最近富Li地幔熔体/ 流体的特征, 而橄榄石的中等Li 富集(<5×10-6)和强烈的δ7Li 亏损(~ -20‰)则可能记录了更早一期低δ7Li 的地幔交代。同位素剖面 的扩散反演以及Li 强烈富集与LREE 相对亏损之间的解耦显示了两期地幔交代作用的短暂性和近期性。因此,我们认为华 北东部克拉通上地幔中存在与再循环有关的锂同位素异常组分,它们的形成应该与中生代以来太平洋板块向东亚大陆下的 俯冲有关. 这些组分能够在地幔中较长的保存直至最近被热扰动所释放,并被橄榄岩包体所记录。  相似文献
