Spectral gamma ray (SGR) logs are used as stratigraphic tools in correlation, sequence stratigraphy and most recently, in clastic successions as a proxy for changes in hinterland palaeoweathering. In this study we analyse the spectral gamma ray signal recorded in two boreholes that penetrated the carbonate and evaporate‐dominated Permian–Triassic boundary (PTB) in the South Pars Gasfield (offshore Iran, Persian Gulf) in an attempt to analyse palaeoenvironmental changes from the upper Permian (Upper Dalan Formation) and lower Triassic (Lower Kangan Formation). The results are compared to lithological changes, total organic carbon (TOC) contents and published stable isotope ( δ 18O, δ 13C) results. This work is the first to consider palaeoclimatic effects on SGR logs from a carbonate/evaporate succession. While Th/U ratios compare well to isotope data (and thus a change to less arid hinterland climates from the Late Permian to the Early Triassic), Th/K ratios do not, suggesting a control not related to hinterland weathering. Furthermore, elevated Th/U ratios in the Early Triassic could reflect a global drawdown in U, rather than a more humid episode in the sediment hinterlands, with coincident changes in TOC. Previous work that used spectral gamma ray data in siliciclastic successions as a palaeoclimate proxy may not apply in carbonate/evaporate sedimentary rocks. In the current study, the settling, interaction, drafting, kissing, and tumbling of two identical and non-identical circular particles were simulated in a two-dimensional box in shear-thinning, Newtonian, and shear-thickening fluids by using the combined lattice Boltzmann-smoothed profile methods. Furthermore, the drag coefficient of one particle settling for different power-law indexes and Archimedes numbers was calculated. Also, the effect of the diameter ratio of the two particle pairs was considered during settling. The developed method was validated by simulating the settling of one particle and two identical particles in a Newtonian fluid. To consider two non-identical particles, two cases were examined. In Case A, the larger particle was above the smaller one and in the Case B, the smaller particle was above the larger one. The results showed that the two non-identical particles were separated more easily than the identical ones. In the settling of two particles under the same Archimedes number, the drafting and kissing time considerably increased by changing the non-Newtonian fluid behavior from a shear-thinning one to a shear-thickening one. Also, when the larger particle was above the smaller one, the time duration of the kissing stage increased with the decrease in the diameter ratio.  相似文献

Abstract

In onshore and offshore fields of ocean engineering, piles are used as foundation systems for various structures. Piles are classified into different types depending on their materials, geometries, and particularly, installation methods, which have advantages or limitations. Companies and engineers have developed a new group of piles, because of necessity to improve their performance in terms of increasing the bearing capacity, reducing impacts of traditional installation procedures, implementing by low- torque power equipment, and utilizing them in widely different ground conditions, including in a marine environment. In the present study, three different models of a new pile with an expander body are introduced to increase the shaft and pile-toe diameters and its self-expansion in the embedment depth under the titles of the Bubble pile (BP), Self-Expanded pile (SEP) and Wing pile (WP). The main subject of this research is to achieve increased bearing capacity, reduced installation effects, and decreased required installation torque. The frustum-confining vessel of Amirkabir University of Technology (FCV-AUT) was employed for this purpose. Up to 14 axial compressive and tensile load tests were carried out on different model piles on sand collected from Anzali shore located on the northern coast of Caspian Sea in Iran, with relative densities of 45% to 50% within FCV-AUT. Comparing the performance of introduced pile with traditional pile corresponding to the same characteristics, the results indicated a significant increase in the axial bearing capacity and reduced disturbance effect of the pile. Also, a lower installation torque of the SE pile was required compared to the helical pile. The test results also demonstrated that the new pile could resist considerable compressive and uplift loads, and could be a possible alternative to traditional piles in the onshore sector.  相似文献

The Qolqoleh gold deposit is located in northwestern part of the Sanandaj–Sirjan metamorphic belt, northwestern Iran. Igneous and sedimentary units exposed in the area have undergone greenschist metamorphism. The area was affected by a NE–SW trending shear zone and subsequent deformation. Two different types of mineralization are distinguished in the Qolqoleh gold deposit based on geological–structural conditions indicated by microtextural analysis: ductile and then brittle. Ore-forming processes are divided into three stages: Early (I), Middle (II) and Late (III), which include quartz–pyrite (I), sulfides and gold (II) and carbonate veinlets (III), respectively. The stage I fluids are characterized by δ18O = 15.5‰ at 440 ºC, and are thought to be deep-sourced metamorphic waters; the stage III fluids, with δ18O = 1.6‰, are shallow-sourced meteoric waters; whereas, the stage II fluids, with δ18O = 13.1‰, are a mixture of deep-sourced metamorphic and shallow-sourced meteoric fluids. Based on comparisons of the D–O–C isotopic systematics, the ore-forming fluids with characteristic high δ18O and δ13C and low δD originated from metamorphic devolatilization of Cretaceous volcano-sedimentary (felsic to mafic metavolcanic rocks–shale–carbonate–carbonaceous chert) sequences, locally rich in organic matter. During late Cretaceous continental collision of the Afro-Arabian continent and the Iranian microcontinent, a crustal slab consisting of felsic to mafic metavolcanic rocks, carbonate, shale and carbonaceous chert was underthrust northwards beneath the central Iranian microcontinent along the Zagros fault. During further contraction, deformation was localized in reverse oblique-slip structures with vergence toward south; shear zones generally follow contacts between more competent and less competent rock units. Metamorphic devolatilization of this underthrust slab is the source of the ore-forming fluids that generated the Au ore belt, which includes the Qolqoleh gold deposit.  相似文献

Groundwater interacts with surface water features nearly in all types of landscapes. Understanding these interactions has practical consequences on the quantity and quality of water in either system, because the depletion or contamination of one of the systems will eventually affect the other one. Many studies have shown that the use of heat as natural tracer in conjunction with water level measurements is an effective method for estimating water flow (fluxes) between groundwater and surface water. A number of studies have explored the effects of spatial and temporal variability of groundwater–surface water flux exchanges using temperature and water level measurements; however, the effect of temporal resolution of water level and temperature data on estimating flux remains unexplored. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of temporal resolution of input data on temporal variation of groundwater–surface water flux exchanges. To this end, we calibrated a variably saturated two‐dimensional groundwater flow and heat transport model (VS2DH) at hourly and daily time scales using temperatures measured at multiple depths below the riverbed of the Zenne River, located at a well‐known Belgian brownfield site. Results of the study showed that the computed water flux through the streambed ranged between ?32 mm/day and +25 mm/day using the hourly model and from ?10 mm/day to ?37 mm/day using the daily model. The hourly model resulted in detecting reversal of flow direction inducing short‐term surface water flow into the streambed. However, such events were not captured if daily temperature and water level measurements were used as input. These findings have important implications for understanding contaminant mass flux and their attenuation in the mixing zone of groundwater and surface water. Regional flood frequency analysis (RFFA) was carried out on data for 55 hydrometric stations in Namak Lake basin, Iran, for the period 1992–2012. Flood discharge of specific return periods was computed based on the log Pearson Type III distribution, selected as the best regional distribution. Independent variables, including physiographic, meteorological, geological and land-use variables, were derived and, using three strategies – gamma test (GT), GT plus classification and expert opinion – the best input combination was selected. To select the best technique for regionalization, support vector regression (SVR), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), artificial neural network (ANN) and nonlinear regression (NLR) techniques were applied to predict peak flood discharge for 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50- and 100-year return periods. The GT + ANFIS and GT + SVR models gave better performance than the ANN and NLR models in the RFFA. The results of the input variable selection showed that the GT technique improved the model performance.  相似文献

Least-squares spectral analysis, an alternative to the classical Fourier transform, is a method of analyzing unequally spaced and non-stationary time series in their first and second statistical moments. However, when a time series has components with low or high amplitude and frequency variability over time, it is not appropriate to use either the least-squares spectral analysis or Fourier transform. On the other hand, the classical short-time Fourier transform and the continuous wavelet transform do not consider the covariance matrix associated with a time series nor do they consider trends or datum shifts. Moreover, they are not defined for unequally spaced time series. A new method of analyzing time series, namely, the least-squares wavelet analysis is introduced, which is a natural extension of the least-squares spectral analysis. This method decomposes a time series to the time–frequency domain and obtains its spectrogram. In addition, the probability distribution function of the spectrogram is derived that identifies statistically significant peaks. The least-squares wavelet analysis can analyze any non-stationary and unequally spaced time series with components of low or high amplitude and frequency variability, including datum shifts, trends, and constituents of known forms, by taking into account the covariance matrix associated with the time series. The outstanding performance of the proposed method on synthetic time series and a very long baseline interferometry series is demonstrated, and the results are compared with the weighted wavelet Z-transform.  相似文献
