We develop a new method to determine the linear mass power spectrum using the mass function of galaxy clusters. We obtain the rms mass fluctuation σ( M ) using the expression for the mass function in the Press & Schechter, Sheth, Mo & Tormen and Jenkins et al. formalisms. We apply different techniques to recover the adimensional power spectrum Δ2 ( k ) from σ( M ) namely the k eff approximation, the singular value decomposition and the linear regularization method. The application of these techniques to the τCDM and ΛCDM GIF simulations shows a high efficiency in recovering the theoretical power spectrum over a wide range of scales. We compare our results with those derived from the power spectrum of the spatial distribution of the same sample of clusters in the simulations obtained by application of the classical Feldman, Kaiser & Peacock (FKP) method. We find that the mass function based method presented here can provide a very accurate estimate of the linear power spectrum, particularly for low values of k . This estimate is comparable to, or even better behaved than, the FKP solution.

An estimation of the number and amplitude (in flux) of the extragalactic point sources that will be observed by the Planck Mission is presented in this paper. The study is based on the Mexican Hat wavelet formalism introduced by Cayón et al. Simulations at Planck observing frequencies are analysed, taking into account all the possible cosmological, Galactic and extragalactic emissions together with noise. With the technique used in this work, the Planck Mission will produce a catalogue of extragalactic point sources above the following flux values: 1.03 Jy (857 GHz), 0.53 Jy (545 GHz), 0.28 Jy (353 GHz), 0.24 Jy (217 GHz), 0.32 Jy (143 GHz), 0.41 Jy (100 GHz, high-frequency instrument), 0.34 Jy (100 GHz, low-frequency instrument), 0.57 Jy (70 GHz), 0.54 Jy (44 GHz) and 0.54 Jy (30 GHz), which are only slightly model dependent (see text). Amplitudes of these sources are estimated with errors below ∼15 per cent. Moreover, we also provide a complete catalogue (for the point-source simulations analysed) with errors in the estimation of the amplitude below ∼10 per cent. Very high energy γ-rays have recently been detected from the microquasar LS I +61 303 using the MAGIC telescope. A phenomenological study on the concomitant neutrinos that would be radiated if the γ-ray emission is hadronic in origin is herein presented. Neutrino oscillations are considered, and the expected number of events in a km-scale detector such as ICECUBE is computed under different assumptions including orbital periodicity and modulation, as well as different precision in the modeling of the detector. We argue that the upper limits already imposed on the neutrino emission of LS I +61 303 using AMANDA-II and the forthcoming measurements by ICECUBE may significantly constrain – in an independent and unbiased way – the γ-ray to neutrino flux ratio, and thus the possibility of a hadronic origin of the γ-rays. The viability of hadronic models based on wind–jet interactions in the LS +61 303 system after MAGIC measurements is discussed. 相似文献

We show how future measurements of the Sunyaev–Zel'dovich effect (SZE) can be used to constrain the cosmological parameters. We combine the SZ information expected from the Planck full-sky survey, N ( S ), where no redshift information is included, with the N ( z ) obtained from an optically identified SZ-selected survey covering less than 1 per cent of the sky. We demonstrate how with a small subsample (≈300 clusters) of the whole SZ catalogue observed optically it is possible to reduce the degeneracy among the cosmological parameters drastically. We have studied the requirements for performing the optical follow-up and we show the feasibility of such a project. Finally, we have compared the cluster expectations for Planck with those expected for Newton–XMM during their lifetimes. It is shown that, owing to its larger sky coverage, Planck will detect a factor of ∼5 times more clusters than Newton–XMM and also provide a larger redshift coverage. 相似文献

In this paper, we use radar observations from a 50 MHz radar stationed near Salinas, Puerto Rico, to study the variability
of specular as well as non-specular meteor trails in the E-region ionosphere. The observations were made from 18:00 to 08:00 h
AST over various days in 1998 and 1999 during the Coqui II Campaign [Urbina et al., 2000, Geophys. Rev. Lett. 27, 2853–2856]. The radar system had two sub-arrays, both produced beams pointed to the north in the magnetic meridian plane,
perpendicular to the magnetic field, at an elevation angle of approximately 41 degrees.
The Coqui II radar is sensitive to at least two types of echoes from meteor trails: (1) Specular reflections from trails oriented
perpendicular to the radar beam, and (2) scattering, or, non-specular reflections, from trails deposited with arbitrary orientations.
We examine and compare the diurnal and seasonal variability of echoes from specular and non-specular returns observed with
the Coqui II radar. We also compare these results with meteor head echo observations made with the Arecibo 430 MHz radar.
We use common region observations of these three types of meteor echoes to show that the diurnal and seasonal variability
of specular trails, non-specular trails, and head echoes are not equivalent. The implications of these results on global meteor
mass flux estimates obtained from specular meteor observations remains to be examined. 相似文献

We herein review the Adriatic opisthobranch fauna, provide an updated checklist of 223 species and assess their distribution at regional and country levels. New Adriatic records are provided for 67 opisthobranch taxa, adding three new records for the Italian coastline, five new records for Albania, eight for Croatia and 15 for Montenegro. The presence of Hermaea bifida (Montagu, 1815), Hermaea variopicta (Costa A., 1869) and Facelina annulicornis (Chamisso & Eysenhardt, 1821) is reported for the first time from anywhere in the Adriatic Sea. Including the new findings, our inventory includes 28 species from Albania, 163 from Croatia, 178 from the Italian coastline of the Adriatic, 41 from Montenegro and 74 from Slovenia. No records were available from Bosnia and Hercegovina. Ninety species (40.4%) are widespread, and were recorded from all three main divisions (Northern, Western and Eastern Adriatic), whilst 79 species (35.4%) were reported from only one of them. At sub‐division levels, the Albanian inventory is the most dissimilar to the other country/regional lists, presumably because of the lack of targeted field surveys. The highest similarity is observed amongst the Western Adriatic, Croatia and the Italian Ionian coastline. Seven alien, one possible alien and three cryptogenic opisthobranchs were reliably recorded from the Adriatic Sea. The first Mediterranean records of five species were in the Adriatic Sea, of which four species have not been found elsewhere in the Mediterranean. Shipping and aquaculture are the probable pathways for most of the alien species. A steady rate of one to two alien introductions per decade since the 1970s was evident. The Northern Adriatic coasts are the most affected by alien invasions, probably due to repeated local introductions along with shellfish transfers (oysters, mussels, Manila clams), and heavy maritime transport. 相似文献
