Bolide impacts on Mars, within the proposed ocean boundaries (“contacts 1 and 2”) in the northern lowlands, would certainly have generated ultra high energy waves similar to tsunamis on Earth. Impacts into putative Noachian and Hesperian seas of variable areal extents and depths would have experienced high-energy inundations (transgressions), which would have left an imprint in the stack of deposits adjacent to the proposed shorelines. On Earth, the principal influencing factors for tsunami-wave energy are the character of shoreline topography and coastal water depth, which control wave compression and shoreline friction. Shorelines with narrow embayments and steep offshore gradients produce wave compression and increased collision of grains within the carried load contrasted with linear shorelines and shallow offshore gradients that dissipate energy. Steep offshore gradients produce concentrated major wave friction with the bed engendering high kinetic energy in the wave during emplacement of tsunami-generated sediment, which differs from shallow offshore beds that produce lower frictional effects over a wider area and drawdown of wave energy. Thus, overprinting of transported quartz grains on Earth is greatest where wave energy is highest, attenuated down to minor or nil overprinting where wave energy is less. Such grain overprinting in the form of energy-induced microtextures would also be observed in other grain types such as olivine and plagioclase, as such mineralogies are expected to dominate the Martian landscape based on orbital and local field (lander and rover) perspectives. Kinetic energy variation in tsunamis is controlled more by the square of velocity than mass, the resulting collisional effects of which produce swarms of v-shaped percussion microfeatures on quartz and other silicate mineral surfaces when velocity and compression are highest. This work indicates that a valid test for the ocean hypothesis is targeting “coastal” areas adjacent to narrow embayments where offshore depths are known to be highest, as possible tsunami-emplaced sediments, especially those that have been protected from atmospheric conditions through relatively rapid burial, may reveal a high frequency of percussion cracks, features of which appear to be unique to such terrestrial environments. 相似文献
In this paper we present an analytical theory with numerical simulations to study the orbital motion of lunar artificial satellites.
We consider the problem of an artificial satellite perturbed by the non-uniform distribution of mass of the Moon and by a
third-body in elliptical orbit (Earth is considered). Legendre polynomials are expanded in powers of the eccentricity up to
the degree four and are used for the disturbing potential due to the third-body. We show a new approximated equation to compute
the critical semi-major axis for the orbit of the satellite. Lie-Hori perturbation method up to the second-order is applied
to eliminate the terms of short-period of the disturbing potential. Coupling terms are analyzed. Emphasis is given to the
case of frozen orbits and critical inclination. Numerical simulations for hypothetical lunar artificial satellites are performed,
considering that the perturbations are acting together or one at a time. 相似文献
Owing to its five decades in the chemical industry, Estarreja is one of the most important industrial areas in Portugal. Intensive industrial activity along with both direct discharge of the effluents into natural water streams and uncontrolled waste disposal on the ground has, throughout the years, had strong impact on health and welfare. Recently an association between industry and local authorities was created — ERASE. The main goal for this association is to find, in co-operation with the Portuguese Environmental Ministry, a cost-effective solution to deal with the soil/sediments contamination and solid waste problem.
The ERASE association planned to build a landfill for both solid waste and contaminated soil/sediments disposal. In order to determine more accurately the volume of material to be disposed of in the landfill, a site investigation was carried out during September/November 1998. The site investigation consisted mainly of systematic soil sampling at shallow depths, both within the industrial area and along the natural water streams.
The site investigation results revealed high concentrations of toxic pollutants, mainly heavy metals (namely As, Hg, Pb and Zn), in the soil of the industrial area. Much higher concentrations were found in the sediments of the water streams, several kilometres away from the industrial complex (the pollution source area).
In most cases, concentration increases with depth, reaching groundwater. Therefore the site investigation programme carried out could not determine the full extent of the contamination. Consequently, further studies were strongly recommended, which should include a wider and deeper investigation area and groundwater sampling. 相似文献
We have studied through a multiresolution wavelet analysis the oscillations in a limb prominence. Intensity fluctuations in time and height corresponding to different lines of Siiv and Oiv observed with SUMER on board SOHO have been analyzed in the wavelet bands of J3= 1 min 36 s to 3 min 12 s and J4=3 min 12 s to 6 min 24 s. For all species, oscillations in the J4 band were dominant. We found relevant differences between the behavior of line D1 (1393.76 Å) corresponding to Siiv and the set D2 (1401.16 Å), D3 (1404.81 Å), D4 (1402.77 Å) corresponding to Oiv, Oiv and Siiv respectively. We also report the identification of a pulse in the intensity of the line D1 that appears in the range of 15–20 min. This disturbance seems to travel with a speed of about 170 km s–1. 相似文献
Gold, a principal ore commodity, is sought in third world countries, which are situated mainly in the tropics, where extensive lateritic terrains exist. The high value of gold on the international market and balance of payment problems cause gold to be especially important. Present intensive propecting for gold in the Third World countries are, for those reasons, in lateritic terrains. Laterites, formed during the Tertiary and the Recent in inner tropical morphoclimatic zones covered by dense rain forests, in places such as the Amazon region and West Africa, are presently undergoing strong weathering and erosion that truncates lateritic profiles. Consequently, the thick soils still forming today cover in different places, different parts of truncated profiles. Samples of thick soils taken from the surface down, may begin not at the original top of the laterite but somewhere along the profile. Inasmuch as elements in lateritic profiles are not homogeneously distributed, problems in interpretation can result. Gold distribution in non-truncated laterites tends to be sigmoidal in distribution. Two convexities (highest contents) can be distinguished: one in surficial iron crusts or equivalents, the other at the base of saprolite. The sigmoidal curve can be cut off, strongly modified, or concealed by tropical weathering. The intense weathering can diminish concentrations, i.e., elements can be dispersed. Geochemical exploration becomes difficult, because interpretations of the geochemical anomalies based on high concentrations becomes unreliable. If the amount of truncation of lateritic profiles can be assessed, weak or even negative anomalies can become as good or better than strong anomalies. 相似文献
Magnetotelluric measurements in the period range 100–86400 s were conducted at a coastal station under the equatorial electrojet (Eusebio, 3.87°S, 321.58°E). The magnetotelluric data were hand-scaled and analysed to obtain a scalar apparent resistivity profile at Eusebio. The depth of the intermediate conducting layer was found to be in the range 45–75 km and the final conducting layer seems to begin at a depth of about 350 km. Possible effects of the source field equatorial electrojet are discussed and our results are compared with those of an African station under the equatorial electrojet. 相似文献

We are concerned here with the notion of space as a primary condition for building social relations. From this stand, we have
created two analytical matrixes that can help us characterize two modes: that of ‘being-there-in-space’ and that of ‘being-of-the-space’;
the nomospace and the genospace. While the nomospace is characterized by ‘cold’ connotations, which are ideally defined as a result of a logical option, the genospace is mainly characterized by emotional or ‘warm’ connotations, which originate from a feeling of shared nature and common destiny.
We believe that these matrixes could help us to identify the meanings of some behaviours and, therefore, make us more capable
of interpreting many dynamics that occur in modern societies. The importance of geography is justified by the existing relationship
between these behaviours and their proper spatial form.

For many decades the mining industry regarded resources/reserves estimation and classification as a mere calculation requiring basic mathematical and geological knowledge. Most methods were based on geometrical procedures and spatial data distribution. Therefore, uncertainty associated with tonnages and grades either were ignored or mishandled, although various mining codes require a measure of confidence in the values reported. Traditional methods fail in reporting the level of confidence in the quantities and grades. Conversely, kriging is known to provide the best estimate and its associated variance. Among kriging methods, Ordinary Kriging (OK) probably is the most widely used one for mineral resource/reserve estimation, mainly because of its robustness and its facility in uncertainty assessment by using the kriging variance. It also is known that OK variance is unable to recognize local data variability, an important issue when heterogeneous mineral deposits with higher and poorer grade zones are being evaluated. Altenatively, stochastic simulation are used to build local or global uncertainty about a geological attribute respecting its statistical moments. This study investigates methods capable of incorporating uncertainty to the estimates of resources and reserves via OK and sequential gaussian and sequential indicator simulation The results showed that for the type of mineralization studied all methods classified the tonnages similarly.
