U-Pb geochronology with ion microprobe (SHRIMP) analysis has been carried out on eclogite-facies rocks of the Beigua Unit, an ophiolitic slice of the Voltri Massif, Western Alps. The investigated samples are eclogites and high-pressure metasomatic rocks (metarodingites and centimetre-sized Ti-clinohumite-bearing dykes). Zircon contained in an eclogitic metagabbro and a metarodingite preserves magmatic zoning patterns and trace element compositions. The zircon ages of 160±1 and 161±3 Ma are interpreted to date the crystallization of the gabbroic protoliths. Ti-clinohumite dykes in the same unit contain baddeleyite crystals in textural equilibrium with Ti-clinohumite, diopside, chlorite and magnetite, which form the eclogite-facies assemblage in these rocks. Baddeleyite also contains inclusions of such minerals, indicating its formation at high pressure. The baddeleyite has cathodoluminescence intensity and chaotic patterns similar to metamorphic zircon. It contains a significant amount of Hf (1.3–1.7 wt%), traces of Ti, Y, Nb, Ta, REE, U and Th. Its chondrite-normalised trace element pattern has strong enrichment in middle REE, positive Ce-anomaly and small negative Eu-anomaly. This represents the first report of baddeleyite formed during regional metamorphism, and suggests that this mineral could (re)crystallize easier than zircon under low-temperature, high-pressure conditions. The age of the baddeleyite is interpreted as likely dating the eclogite-facies metamorphism in the Beigua Unit at 33.6±1.0 Ma. This age is very close to the Early Oligocene age of the overlying Tertiary continental breccias and conglomerates, which contains clasts of high-pressure rocks. This sedimentary record, which is unique for Alpine high-pressure units, is direct evidence of fast exhumation of the Beigua eclogites. The young age for the HP metamorphism of the Beigua ophiolite makes a revision of either the palaeogeography prior to collision, or of the subduction setting in the entire region, necessary.Editorial responsibility: J. The consistent estimation of terrestrial reference frames (TRF), celestial reference frames (CRF) and Earth orientation parameters (EOP) is still an open subject and offers a large field of investigations. Until now, source positions resulting from Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations are not routinely combined on the level of normal equations in the same way as it is a common process for station coordinates and EOPs. The combination of source positions based on VLBI observations is now integrated in the IVS combination process. We present the studies carried out to evaluate the benefit of the combination compared to individual solutions. On the level of source time series, improved statistics regarding weighted root mean square have been found for the combination in comparison with the individual contributions. In total, 67 stations and 907 sources (including 291 ICRF2 defining sources) are included in the consistently generated CRF and TRF covering 30 years of VLBI contributions. The rotation angles \(A_1\), \(A_2\) and \(A_3\) relative to ICRF2 are ?12.7, 51.7 and 1.8 \({\upmu }\) as, the drifts \(D_\alpha \) and \(D_\delta \) are ?67.2 and 19.1 \(\upmu \) as/rad and the bias \(B_\delta \) is 26.1 \(\upmu \) as. The comparison of the TRF solution with the IVS routinely combined quarterly TRF solution shows no significant impact on the TRF, when the CRF is estimated consistently with the TRF. In this paper SIT and Pitzer models are used for the first time to describe the interactions of natural and synthetic polyelectrolytes in natural waters. Measurements were made potentiometrically at 25 °C in single electrolyte media, such as Et4NI and NaCl (for fulvic acid 0.1 < I /mol L− 1 < 0.75), and in a multi-component medium simulating the composition of natural waters at a wide range of salinities (for fulvic and alginic acids: 5 < S < 45) with particular reference to sea water [Synthetic Sea Water for Equilibrium studies, SSWE]. In order to simplify calculations, SSWE was considered to be a “single salt” BA, with cation B and anion A representing all the major cations (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+) and anions (Cl, SO42−) in natural sea water, respectively. The ion pair formation model was also applied to fulvate and alginate in artificial sea water by examining the interaction of polyanions with the single sea water cation. Results were compared with those obtained from previous speciation studies of synthetic polyelectrolytes (polyacrylic and polymethacrylic acids of different molecular weights). Results indicate that the SIT, Pitzer and Ion Pairing formation models used in studies of low molecular weight electrolytes may also be applied to polyelctrolytes with a few simple adjustments.  相似文献

Recent transportation infrastructure works in Naples, Italy, provided important discoveries related to the production of pottery in the Hellenistic workshop area of Piazza Nicola Amore. A minero‐petrographic investigation was conducted on 35 samples belonging to the widespread Campana A ware and production indicators (clayey raw materials, unfired Graeco‐Italic amphorae, kiln wastes, workshop tools). Additional analysis was conducted on black‐glaze and common ware samples for comparison. The analyses reveal compositional and technological homogeneity of Campana A ware. Samples are characterized by low CaO content with evidence of both volcanic and sedimentary components, suggesting that different clay sources were properly mixed to prepare a standard recipe. Production indicators, black‐glaze and common wares, have a composition well consistent with the calcareous clays from the island of Ischia. Leucite‐ and garnet‐bearing temper from the Somma Volcano were used for the preparation of coarse‐grained pastes, unfired Graeco‐Italic amphorae, and clayey raw materials, thus suggesting that they represented the clay sources for amphorae production. Our results reveal new technological and socioeconomic aspects of Hellenistic pottery production in the Bay of Naples, in particular for the Campana A ware, now representing a new reference group: Neapolis.  相似文献

We present a new method to estimate the direction of the magnetization vector of geological bodies based upon the correlation between the reduced-to-the-pole field for tentative values of the magnetization direction and the total magnitude anomaly, obtained by a transform of the measured magnetic field. The reduced-to-the-pole and the total magnitude anomaly are centred over the sources in the case of 2D anomalies or well-centred in the case of compact 3D sources and have similar patterns for the same source. The method has several important advantages over similar transform-correlation methods for estimation of the magnetization direction. It calculates only one transform for many tentative values of the magnetization direction. The method does not use derivatives of any order and relies on confident isolation of the target anomalies based on one of the compared transforms, the total magnitude anomaly. We studied the performance of the method on five 2.5D and compact 3D sources. We analysed possible inherent to the method errors, as well as errors due to interference from neighbouring sources. Finally, we estimated the magnetization-vector direction of the main sources causing the magnetic field in the Burgas region and the adjoining southeast Bulgarian Black Sea shelf. The sources in the Black Sea shelf show prevalently reverse magnetization, while the sources on land have normal or reverse magnetization.  相似文献

The differential similarity transform of a magnetic anomaly is a linear combination of its intensity and gradient components. This transform is sensitive to the distance between a chosen central point of similarity and the source and depends on the degree of homogeneity of the field. Taking advantage of this property, a new field inversion method resulting in the evaluation of source position and shape type is proposed and implemented. The field gradient components are measured directly in magnetic gradiometry, or they can be calculated from the measured field data. Regional and local linear backgrounds are accounted for by the method. The method can be applied on either regularly or irregularly-spaced data sets, on even or uneven surfaces of observation. The solving of the systems of equations is not necessary. A semi-automated inversion for both location and shape of the sources is implemented. Model and field tests illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed inversion technique for depth and shape estimates.  相似文献

Several statistical postprocessing methods are applied to results from a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model to test the potential for increasing the accuracy of its local precipitation forecasts. Categorical (Yes/No) forecasts for 12hr precipitation sums equalling or exceeding 0.1, 2.0 and 5.0 mm are selected for improvement. The two 12hr periods 0600-1800 UTC and 1800-0600 UTC are treated separately based on NWP model initial times 0000 UTC and 1200 UTC, respectively. Input data are taken from three successive summer seasons, April-September, 1994-96. The forecasts are prepared and verified for five synoptic stations, four located in the western Czech Republic, and one in Germany near the Czech-German border. Two approaches to statistical postprocessing are tested. The first uses Model Output Statistics (MOS) and the second modifies the MOS approach by applying a successive learning technique (SLT). For each approach several statistical models for the relationship between NWP model predictors and predictand were studied. An independent data set is used for forecast verification with the skill measured by a True Skill Score. The results of the statistical postprocessing are compared with the direct model precipitation forecasts from gridpoints nearest the stations, and they show that both postprocessing approaches provide substantially better forecasts than the direct NWP model output. The relative improvement increases with increasing precipitation amount and there is no significant difference in performance between the two 12hr periods. The skill of the SLT does not depend significantly on the size of the initial learning sample, but its results are nevertheless comparable with the results obtained from the MOS approach, which requires larger developmental samples.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the Curvature Sub–Carpathians, especially with respect to Buzau County. The region as a whole has always been relatively well-settled and agriculture has usually been combined with a range of local industrial and handicraft employments. A study of traditional domestic activities brings out a close connection between specific natural resources and characteristic features of traditional peasant household work. The Prahova Valley has been particularly favoured on account of the oil industry and a major transport axis connecting Bucharest with Brasov via Ploiesti, but elsewhere industry did not spread extensively beyond the county centres (Buzau, Focsani, Pitesti and Targoviste) and their immediate environs such as Colibasi and Doicesti. During the present transition phase the rural population is struggling to survive by combining elements of the modern and traditional economies. The main rural centres are relatively well off while the outlying villages are experiencing severe poverty problems. Apart from brandy distilling, traditional rural industries are no longer viable, although alternative systems of pluriactivity are under discussion. A sustained increase in spring discharges was monitored after the 2016 Central Italy seismic sequence in the fractured carbonate aquifer of Valnerina–Sibillini Mts. The groundwater surplus recorded between August 2016 and November 2017 was determined to be between 400 and 500 × 106 m3. In fractured aquifers, the post-seismic rise in spring discharges is generally attributed to an increase in bulk permeability caused by the fracture cleaning effect, which is induced by pore pressure propagation. In the studied aquifers, the large amount of additional discharge cannot only be attributed to the enhanced permeability, which was evaluated to be less than 20% after each main seismic event. A detailed analysis of the spring discharge hydrographs and of the water level at five gauging stations was carried out to determine the possible causes of this sudden increase in groundwater outflow. Taking into account the geological and structural framework, a conceptual model of a basin-in-series has been adopted to describe the complex hydrogeological setting, where the thrusts and extensional faults have clearly influenced the groundwater flow directions before and after the seismic sequence. The prevalent portion of the total post-seismic discharge surplus not explained by the increase in permeability has been attributed to changes in the hydraulic gradient that caused seismogenic fault rupture and the disruption in the upgradient sector of the aquifer. The additional flow calculated through the breach of the pre-existing hydrostructural barrier corresponds to approximately 470 × 106 m3. This value is consistent with the total discharge increase measured in the whole study area, validating the proposed conceptual model. Consequently, a shift in the piezometric divide of the hydrogeological system has been induced, causing a potentially permanent change that lowers the discharge amount of the eastern springs.  相似文献
