Inspired by the framework of the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX), the hindcast (1971–2000) and projection (2021–2050) simulations based on a resolution of $0.44^\circ$ over the East Asia domain are performed with the regional climate model COSMO-CLM (CCLM). The simulations are driven by ERA-40 reanalysis data and output of the global climate model ECHAM5. This is the first time that the CCLM is adapted and evaluated for the East Asia Monsoon region; the setup is considered a starting point for further improvements in this region by the CCLM community. The evaluation results show that the CCLM is able to reasonably capture the climate features in this region, especially the monsoon dynamics on small scales. However, total precipitation in the northern part of the domain, over the Tibetan Plateau, and over east Indonesia has a pronounced wet bias. The projected climate change under the A1B scenario indicates an overall annual surface temperature increase of 1–2 K, but no significant precipitation changes. 相似文献

Capabilities of large-scale diffractive X-ray telescopes are discussed. Based on purely transmissive optics, an angular resolution
of at least 10−3 arcsec will be achieved using detection techniques with spectral selectivities in the sub-eV range for short focal distances
of few 102 km. We use stepped versions of Fresnel apertures made of plastic foils, divided into optically independent segments by two
alternative schemes. It is shown that point source sensitivities near 103 cm2 keV require lens diameters up to 30 m. Like monochromatic objectives, properly shaped dual- or multiband telescopes may be
tuned over several keV. Such configurations are made of partial Fresnel lenses with coinciding focal distances and similar

We present a novel approach based on fibre-optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS) to measure the two-dimensional thermal
structure of the surface layer at high resolution (0.25 m, ≈0.5 Hz). Air temperature observations obtained from a vertically-oriented
fibre-optics array of approximate dimensions 8 m × 8 m and sonic anemometer data from two levels were collected over a short
grass field located in the flat bottom of a wide valley with moderate surface heterogeneity. The objectives of the study were
to evaluate the potential of the DTS technique to study small-scale processes in the surface layer over a wide range of atmospheric
stability, and to analyze the space–time dynamics of transient cold-air pools in the calm boundary layer. The time response
and precision of the fibre-based temperatures were adequate to resolve individual sub-metre sized turbulent and non-turbulent
structures, of time scales of seconds, in the convective, neutral, and stable surface layer. Meaningful sensible heat fluxes
were computed using the eddy-covariance technique when combined with vertical wind observations. We present a framework that
determines the optimal environmental conditions for applying the fibre-optics technique in the surface layer and identifies
areas for potentially significant improvements of the DTS performance. The top of the transient cold-air pool was highly non-stationary
indicating a superposition of perturbations of different time and length scales. Vertical eddy scales in the strongly stratified
transient cold-air pool derived from the DTS data agreed well with the buoyancy length scale computed using the vertical velocity
variance and the Brunt–Vaisala frequency, while scales for weak stratification disagreed. The high-resolution DTS technique
opens a new window into spatially sampling geophysical fluid flows including turbulent energy exchange. 相似文献

The Norwegian Channel Ice Stream (NCIS) is one the defining features of the Fennoscandian icesheet. Still little is known of the detailed dynamics of this ice stream in relation to regional changes in ice cover, paleoceanographic and climatic changes. Sedimentological data from core MD99-2283 in combination with seismic data allow a detailed chronological reconstruction of the outbuilding of the margin and the ice extent in southern Scandinavia through the last 150 ka. An integrated stratigraphy of the margin is presented and compared to the glacial history. Changes in the regional ice cover are reflected in the accumulation rates, the clay mineralogy, the coarse chalk fraction and the number of IRD >2 mm in core MD99-2283, while the sedimentation on the North Sea Fan as derived from seismic data provides direct evidence for the glacial activity at the shelf edge. Tentative evidence was found for two Early Weichselian glacial advances in southern Scandinavia and possibly Scotland at around 110 and 80 ka BP. From 42 cal ka BP the ice cover expanded in southern Fennoscandia and led to increased deposition on the margin and the occurrence of local melt water outbursts. Significantly increased accumulation rates, coarse chalk, local meltwater output and smectite occur during the ice expansion in the North Sea from around 34 cal ka BP. The main outbuilding phase of the NSF during the last glacial cycle occurred after 30 cal ka BP. From around 24 cal ka BP the NCIS became highly active and advanced at least three times prior to the final retreat from the shelf edge around 19.0 cal ka BP. 相似文献
