Three sympathetic flares were observed with the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope (SMFT) at the Huairou Solar Observing Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory on 29 August, and 1 September 1990. Each set of sympathetic flares had three ribbons. Two ribbons appeared in active region NOAA 6233 and one ribbon occurred in NOAA 6240 embedded in a single polarity area. Photospheric vector magnetograms were simultaneously obtained from both regions as well. We use a new numerical technique to reconstruct the chromospheric and coronal magnetic fields by making use of the observed vector magnetic fields in the photosphere as boundary conditions. Magnetic field loops linking both regions were identified from the reconstructed 3-D fields. The analysis of chromospheric filtergrams and reconstructed 3-D magnetic fields indicates that interaction between a sheared lower loop in the active region NOAA 6233 and a higher loop linking the two regions resulted in sympathetic flares. The analysis of the time delay between flare ribbons in NOAA 6233 and 6240 indicates that heat conduction along the higher loop from the primary energy release site is responsible for the sympathetic flaring in NOAA 6240. The events reported in this paper represent only one alternative as the cause of sympathetic flaring in which energy transport along coronal interconnecting loops plays the major role, and no in-situ energy release is required.  相似文献

Meteorite fusion crust formation is a brief event in a high‐temperature (2000–12,000 K) and high‐pressure (2–5 MPa) regime. We studied fusion crusts and bulk samples of 10 ordinary chondrite falls and 10 ordinary chondrite finds. The fusion crusts show a typical layering and most contain vesicles. All fusion crusts are enriched in heavy Fe isotopes, with δ56Fe values up to +0.35‰ relative to the solar system mean. On average, the δ56Fe of fusion crusts from finds is +0.23‰, which is 0.08‰ higher than the average from falls (+0.15‰). Higher δ56Fe in fusion crusts of finds correlate with bulk chondrite enrichments in mobile elements such as Ba and Sr. The δ56Fe signature of meteorite fusion crusts was produced by two processes (1) evaporation during atmospheric entry and (2) terrestrial weathering. Fusion crusts have either the same or higher δ18O (0.9–1.5‰) than their host chondrites, and the same is true for Δ17O. The differences in bulk chondrite and fusion crust oxygen isotope composition are explained by exchange of oxygen between the molten surface of the meteorites with the atmosphere and weathering. Meteorite fusion crust formation is qualitatively similar to conditions of chondrule formation. Therefore, fusion crusts may, at least to some extent, serve as a natural analogue to chondrule formation processes. Meteorite fusion crust and chondrules exhibit a similar extent of Fe isotope fractionation, supporting the idea that the Fe isotope signature of chondrules was established in a high‐pressure environment that prevented large isotope fractionations. The exchange of O between a chondrule melt and an 16O‐poor nebula as the cause for the observed nonmass dependent O isotope compositions in chondrules is supported by the same process, although to a much lower extent, in meteorite fusion crusts.  相似文献

Gravel bars (GBs) contribute to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from stream corridors, with CO2 concentrations and emissions dependent on prevailing hydraulic, biochemical, and physicochemical conditions. We investigated CO2 concentrations and fluxes across a GB in a prealpine stream over three different discharge‐temperature conditions. By combining field data with a reactive transport groundwater model, we were able to differentiate the most relevant hydrological and biogeochemical processes contributing to CO2 dynamics. GB CO2 concentrations showed significant spatial and temporal variability and were highest under the lowest flow and highest temperature conditions. Further, observed GB surface CO2 evasion fluxes, measured CO2 concentrations, and modelled aerobic respiration were highest at the tail of the GB over all conditions. Modelled CO2 transport via streamwater downwelling contributed the largest fraction of the measured GB CO2 concentrations (31% to 48%). This contribution increased its relative share at higher discharges as a result of a decrease in other sources. Also, it decreased from the GB head to tail across all discharge‐temperature conditions. Aerobic respiration accounted for 17% to 36% of measured surface CO2 concentrations. Zoobenthic respiration was estimated to contribute between 4% and 8%, and direct groundwater CO2 inputs 1% to 23%. Unexplained residuals accounted for 6% to 37% of the observed CO2 concentrations at the GB surface. Overall, we highlight the dynamic role of subsurface aerobic respiration as a driver of spatial and temporal variability of CO2 concentrations and evasion fluxes from a GB. As hydrological regimes in prealpine streams are predicted to change following climatic change, we propose that warming temperatures combined with extended periods of low flow will lead to increased CO2 release via enhanced aerobic respiration in newly exposed GBs in prealpine stream corridors.  相似文献

Summary. In palaeomagnetic studies the analysis of multicomponent magnetizations has evolved from the eye-ball, orthogonal plot, and vector difference methods to the more elaborate computer-based methods such as principle component analysis (PCA), linearity spectrum analysis (LSA), and the recent package called LINEFIND. the errors involved in estimating a particular direction in a multicomponent system from a single specimen are fundamental to PCA, LSA, and LINEFIND, yet these errors are not used in estimating an overall direction from a number of observations of a particular component (other than in some acceptance or rejection criterion). the distribution of errors relates very simply to a Fisher distribution, and so these errors may be included fairly naturally in the overall analysis. In the absence of a rigorous theory to cover all situations, we consider here approximate methods for the use of these errors in estimating overall directions and cones of confidence. Some examples are presented to demonstrate the application of these methods.  相似文献

A two-dimensional (2D) reactive transport model is used to investigate the controls on nutrient (, , PO4) dynamics in a coastal aquifer. The model couples density-dependent flow to a reaction network which includes oxic degradation of organic matter, denitrification, iron oxide reduction, nitrification, Fe2+ oxidation and sorption of PO4 onto iron oxides. Porewater measurements from a well transect at Waquoit Bay, MA, USA indicate the presence of a reducing plume with high Fe2+, , DOC (dissolved organic carbon) and PO4 concentrations overlying a more oxidizing -rich plume. These two plumes travel nearly conservatively until they start to overlap in the intertidal coastal sediments prior to discharge into the bay. In this zone, the aeration of the surface beach sediments drives nitrification and allows the precipitation of iron oxide, which leads to the removal of PO4 through sorption. Model simulations suggest that removal of through denitrification is inhibited by the limited overlap between the two freshwater plumes, as well as by the refractory nature of terrestrial DOC. Submarine groundwater discharge is a significant source of to the bay.  相似文献

The andesitic early Oligocene Taveyanne metagreywacke of the Helvetic nappes of western Switzerland shows an increase of metamorphic grade from zeolite facies through lower greenschist facies. Electron microprobe analysis, fluid inclusion thermometry, stable isotope analysis, coal rank, illite and chlorite crystallinity and thermodynamic calculations were carried out to determine metamorphic conditions. Evaluation of all techniques used in this study suggest that only combinations of different parameters yield reliable information to constrain very low-grade metamorphic conditions. Electron microprobe analyses are presented for actinolite, chlorite, epidote, phengite, laumontite, prehnite, pumpellyite, and titanite. With increasing metamorphic grade, chlorite is enriched in tetrahedral Al, pumpellyite becomes poorer in Fetot and more homogeneous in chemical composition, and titanite tends to incorporate Ti at the expense of Al and Fe3+. Metamorphic P-T conditions were determined by a combination of fluid inclusion microthermobarometry, stable isotope thermometry on quartz-calcite veins, chlorite “geothermometry” and thermodynamic calculations. Peak temperatures range from 210–250 °C for zeolite facies to 270–300 °C for prehnite-pumpellyite facies to 300–360 °C for pumpellyite-actinolite facies. An evaluation of 289 chlorite analyses indicates that the tetrahedral Al content is negatively correlated with the saponite component. Temperatures derived from chlorite “geothermometry” match maximum temperature conditions mentioned above. Illite crystallinity data for shales and slates intercalated with the Taveyanne metagreywacke indicate that the diagenetic zone correlates with the zeolite facies, the upper anchizone with the prehnite-pumpellyite facies, and the lower epizone with the pumpellyite-actinolite facies. A comparison of coal rank and illite crystallinity data (n=12,r=0.91) yielded R max values of 2.9 and 5.5% for the lower and upper boundary of the anchizone, respectively. Landscape art provides a window on the world of subjective interpretation and shared perceptions of place. Portraits of places are therefore simultaneously portraits of a society, its preferences and prejudices, and the meaning it imparts to the world. In the nineteenth century, settlers in Africa felt alienated, uncomfortable, abandoned and detached, and their landscape art—both paintings and poetry—was testimony to their emotional and psychological responses to the foreign environment. Both the imported artistic techniques for portraying nat?re and the symbols populating the landscape images revealed the temperament of the pioneers’ attitudes to place.  相似文献

The Behlen observatory 0.76 m telescope CCD photometer is used to obtain 347 observations of the short period (P0d.4) eclipsing binary star V719 Her. The observations done withV andR bandpass filters were made on 6 nights in 1993. Previously published light elements and the present five timings of minimum provide a new epoch and a more accurate orbital period of 0.4009828 days. Our analyses show that the period of the system appears to decrease. We recommend future monitoring of the eclipse minima for this system. No published spectral classification for V719 Her exists. From the color,V-R=0.391, we estimate it to be about F5.The 1993 version of the Wilson Devinney model gave the photometric solutions. The adopted solution indicates that V719 Her is a W UMa type contact binary. The mass ratio,q=(m 2/m 1, where star 1 eclipse at the primary minimum)=0.296 suggests that V719 Her is a WUMa system with type-A (transit during primary eclipse) configuration. The secondary minimum shows a total eclipse. V719 Her with period less than 0.5 and spectral class F5, is probably a zero-age contact system. Since our photometric solution shows that the luminosity difference between the components is very large, we suspect that V719 Her is most likely a single line spectroscopic binary. We recommend spectroscopic study of this system.  相似文献

On board the SOHO spacecraft poised at L1 Lagrange point, the SWAN instrument is mainly devoted to the measurement of large scale structures of the solar wind, and in particular the distribution with heliographic latitude of the solar wind mass flux. This is obtained from an intensity map of the sky Lyman emission, which reflects the shape of the ionization cavity carved in the flow of interstellar H atoms by the solar wind. The methodology, inversion procedure and related complications are described. The subject of latitude variation of the solar wind is shortly reviewed: earlier Lyman results from Prognoz in 1976 are confirmed by Ulysses. The importance of the actual value of the solar wind mass flux for the equation of dynamics in a polar coronal hole is stressed. The instrument is composed of one electronic unit commanding two identical Sensor Units, each of them allowing to map a full hemisphere with a resolution of 1°, thanks to a two-mirrors periscope system. The design is described in some details, and the rationale for choice between several variants are discussed. A hydrogen absorption cell is used to measure the shape of the interplanetary Lyman line and other Lyman emissions. Other types of observations are also discussed : the geocorona, comets (old and new), the solar corona, and a possible signature of the heliopause. The connexion with some other SOHO instruments, in particular LASCO, UVCS, SUMER, is briefly discussed.  相似文献
