A new method based on the chaos theory is used to assess the evolution process of a slope system. The method is applied to the Xintan landslide and the results show: (1) the slope movement is a complex process of the slope going in and out of the stable and chaotic state; (2) the method reveals the evolution process of the slope pointing to the slope failure while the observed movement shows a simple monotonic increase with time; (3) the method is not sufficiently mature to precisely predict the time of failure but it has potential for improvement with further research and more field data for analysis.  相似文献

Growth in subsonic air traffic over the past 20 years has been dramatic, with an annual increase of }6.1% over the decade between 1978 and 1988. Furthermore, aircraft activities in the year 2000 are predicted to be double those of 1990, with a shift towards more high-flying, longhaul subsonics. Aircraft exhaust gases increase the amount of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) in the upper troposphere/lower stratosphere through injection at cruise altitudes. Given that NO x is instrumental in tropospheric ozone production and stratospheric ozone destruction, it is important to determine the influence of subsonic aircraft NO x emissions on levels of atmospheric ozone. This paper describes calculations designed to investigate the impact that subsonic aircraft may already have had on the atmosphere during the 1980s, run in a 2-D chemical-radiative-transport model. The results indicate a significant increase in upper tropospheric ozone over the decade arising from aircraft emissions. However, when comparing model results with observational data, certain discrepancies appear. Lower stratospheric ozone loss over the 1980s does not appear to be greatly altered by the inclusion of aircraft emissions in the model. However, given the trend in greater numbers of long-haul subsonic aircraft, this factor must be considered in any further calculations.  相似文献

Between January 1978 and September 1979 samples of subsurface (1 m) water and surface sediment were collected from sites in the North Sea, English Channel, Irish Sea and a number of estuarine areas. These have been analysed by fluorescence spectroscopy (UVF) in order to provide information on the levels of hydrocarbons generally present in UK marine waters.Total hydrocarbon concentrations (THCs) of water samples ranged from 1.1–74 μg l.?1 Ekofisk crude oil equivalents, all values greater than 3.5 μg l.?1 occurring inshore. In offshore areas the mean THCs were: 1.3 μg l.?1 in the northern North Sea, 1.5 μg l.?1 in the western Channel, 2.5 μg l.?1 in the eastern Channel and southern North Sea, and 2.6 μg l.?1 in the Irish Sea.THCs of sediment samples ranged from 0.27–340 μ g?1 dry weight Ekofisk crude oil equivalents, the highest concentration being in the Queen's Channel, the main entrance to the River Mersey.  相似文献

The general effects of the Eleni V oil spill on fisheries and intertidal organisms are described. There appears to have been little damage except by direct smothering. Oil hydrocarbon concentrations have been followed in a small intertidal population of mussels (Mytilus edulis) at Corton beach. Although the area became visually clean of oil, hydrocarbon concentrations in mussel flesh remained high 12 months after the spill and depuration rates in the laboratory were very slow. Shrimps (Crangon crangon) exposed to a water extract of beached Eleni V oil for 42 days showed no ill effects and little uptake of hydrocarbons. At the North Harbour site, where beached oil has not been disturbed, it appears that the fauna, used to oil contamination from other sources, has been little affected by the additional Eleni V oil.  相似文献

The electric and magnetic field variations across bay and cape coastlines are determined from scaled laboratory analogue models. The effect on the field response of such features along an otherwise straight coastline is limited to a distance approximately equal to the dimensions (diameter of the bay or cape) of the irregularity. For the E-polarization of the source field the perturbations in Hz and Hy are more confined, mainly to the immediate region of the bay or cape. The coast effect Hz/Hy for this polarization, and variations with a 4.2 min. period, is approximately a factor of two larger for the cape than for the bay, while the straight coastline Hz/Hy is roughly mid-way between the cape and bay values. For H-polarization the coast effect is again approximately a factor of two larger for the cape than for the bay, but both values are larger than the value for a straight coastline. The response of the various field components to the bay and cape features is decreased at longer periods, and as a measure, the coast effect is approximately a factor of 1.2 greater for the cape than for the bay for a 42 min. period as compared with the factor of 2 for a 4.2 min. period. The bay and cape deflect the induced currents flowing in the ocean and modify the currents diffusing into the land.This study demonstrates that data from coastal sites may be unreliable for correcting magnetic surveys or for analyses of short period geomagnetic source-field variations.  相似文献

The behaviour of time-varying electromagnetic fields near an island situated in a shallow ocean with a nearby continent is investigated using a scaled analogue model. To study the effect of the proximity of the continent, various island-continent distances are treated. The presence of the continent tends to augment enhancements of the field components at the island coastlines for all channel widths studied, while the island affects the enhancements of the fields over the continental coastline only for very narrow channel widths (half the island width or less), and does not affect the horizontal to vertical magnetic field ratio at the coastline at all. To examine the effect of the shape of the island, square and circular island models are used. For the frequencies studied, the island shape has little effect on the fields over the continental coastline, but over the island, the spatial variation of the fields is considerably less for the circular island than for the square island.  相似文献

Conventional RTK positioning is usable, but requires the use of a local base station. It is also restricted by the effects of the de-correlate atmospheric refraction on the GPS signal, which limits the use of the RTK positioning up to distances of 10–15 km from the reference station to the user. With a multiple reference station network approach, precise RTK positioning capability may be extended for a much larger area. The Singapore Integrated Multiple Reference Station Network (SIMRSN) has been established for this purpose. Using an existing method termed linear combination method, the multiple reference station network corrections are generated for the user on an epoch by epoch, satellite-by-satellite basis. A residual-based adaptive Kalman filter is proposed to improve network correction availability. The VRS concept is used to transmit corrections to the user for RTK positioning. Field tests were conducted to demonstrate the general performance of SIMRSN. The tests confirmed that RTK positioning within a multiple reference station network can provide the user with better than 3 cm in horizontal position, the height accuracy is in the range of 1–7 cm, and the average TTF (Time To Fix) are 46 and 76 s during GLC station and LPR station tests, respectively. With this highly efficient survey technique, the user needs only to be equipped with a single GPS receiver. This reduces equipment and manpower costs compared with traditional RTK positioning using a specially set up reference station. All aspects of Marine Electromagnetic Research have made important advances over the last few years: theoretical studies, instrument design and data from equipment on the bottom of the ocean. The seafloor results show that the depth to the conducting asthenosphere is greater under older lithosphere and thus the thickness of the lithosphere increases with age. To obtain greater resolution of the electrical conductivity structure of the upper layers, several controlled source systems were developed. The first observations indicate a decrease in conductivity a few kilometers below the seafloor. Improved theoretical response curves for the electromagnetic fields at an ocean-continent boundary are now available. The theoretical curves, combined with land and seafloor data from coastal regions, allow the effects of the electric currents induced in the seawater to be separated from those caused by currents in the tectonic structure at the continental margin. Of growing interest is the application of electromagnetic methods to determine oceanographic wave parameters. Recent studies have investigated meanders in ocean current patterns, the response of internal edge waves and the tidal effect. With the forseeable improvements in seafloor instrumentation it will be possible to investigate the conductivity structure of offshore basins and the hydrothermal deposits associated with spreading ridges.  相似文献

Summary. In the summer of 1984 an electrical survey using magnetometric off-shore electrical sounding (MOSES) was conducted at two sites in Middle Valley, part of the northern Juan de Fuca Ridge complex. MOSES has been designed to minimize the difficulties inherent in electrical surveys of the crust below the electrically conductive sea layer. Site 1, at 48°32N, 128°42W, is in the central part of the turbidite-filled basin. Using a two-layer model of conductive sediments overlying a fractured basalt basement, the sediment resistivity and thickness were found to be 0.82 ± 0.06 Ωm and 1800 ± 300 m, respectively. The basement resistivity, although not well constrained by the data is consistent with the results obtained at site 2.
Site 2, located at 48°10N, 128°50W, has a thinner sediment layer, which appears to vary with position. The sediment conductivity—thickness product is the parameter determined by the data. If the sediment resistivity were the same as at site 1, the sediment thickness would be 140 ± 30 m to the SE of site 2, and 240 ± 55 m to the NW. The fractured basalt basement has a resistivity of 8.5 ± 3.4 Ωm and is at least 1000 m thick.
Using temperature-corrected pore fluid resistivity, the calculated porosity is found to vary from 62 per cent at the top to 21 per cent at the base of the sediments and is 8 per cent in the basement. These values are in good agreement with estimates from seismic velocities for a thick turbidite sequence in a nearby sediment-filled basin and determined for layer 2A/B basalts in DSDP hole 504B, respectively.  相似文献
