For the testing of the effect on the tsunami prevention facilities, a simplified methodfor tsunami risk assessment was suggested without wave run-up analysis. This methodis proposed using calculated offshore tsunami waveform and field reconnaissance suchas the seawall height, time necessary for residents' evacuation and tsunami warninginsurance. Then, two normalized values are evaluated; one is the ratio of calculatedmaximum tsunami height to seawall height, the other is the ratio of time betweentsunami over-topping and evacuation completion to total time required for evacuation.These two values are used to qualitatively estimate the safety of residents and the effectof tsunami prevention facilities, eliminating the necessity to compute complicatedtsunami run-up onshore.  相似文献

This paper reviews quality requirements of metallurgical coke for the blast furnace, coke structure, and relationships between structure and quality. Models of prediction of metallurgical coke quality parameters based on maceral composition and properties of coals being carbonized are summarized. Early prediction models of cold coke strength and the development of second-generation hot-strength prediction models based on parameters as coke reactivity index (CRI) and coke strength after reaction with carbon dioxide (CSR) are assessed. The review concludes with an assessment of current coke production and coal demand in the steelmaking industry, globally, followed by a preview of possible future alternative coking technologies.  相似文献

Traditionally autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) have been built with a torpedo-like shape. This common shaping is hydrodynamically suboptimal for those AUVs required to operate at snorkeling condition near the free surface. In this case, the wave resistance associated to the wavy deformation of the sea surface induced by the motion of the platform is an important component of the drag. This work has investigated the optimum hull shape of an underwater vehicle moving near the free surface. Specifically a first-order Rankine panel method has been implemented to compute the wave resistance on a body of revolution moving close to the free surface. A simulated annealing algorithm was then employed to search those set of parameters defining the hull shape that minimize the wave resistance. The optimization was constrained to keep constant the total volume of the vehicle. The total drag of scaled models of the torpedo-like and resulting optimum shapes was measured in the naval tank of the University of Trieste. Measurements showed a smaller resistance of the optimized shape in the range of the considered Froude numbers.  相似文献

The paper describes the current developments of a class of low-cost, light-weight autonomous underwater vehicles for coastal oceanographic applications; the vehicle class is named Fòlaga, the Italian name of an aquatic bird that swims on the water surface and dives to catch fish. The main design characteristics of the most recent vehicle of the class, the Fòlaga III, are reviewed. Navigation and control system design are discussed, with particular attention to the diving phase, which is accomplished as in oceanographic gliders by varying the vehicle buoyancy and attitude. Experimental results show that the PID robust controllers implemented are effective in the diving control phase. Finally, a distributed cooperation algorithm to be applied by a team of Fòlaga-like vehicles in adaptive oceanographic sampling applications is described. The algorithm optimizes area coverage while taking into account the accuracy in the reconstruction of the oceanographic field and inter-vehicle communication through a range constraint. The resulting dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented in a distributed fashion among the team components.  相似文献

Summary. The Gubbio section, in the Umbrian Apennines, yielded a sequence of Upper Cretaceous polarity zones precisely corresponding to the sea-floor magnetic anomalies of that age; the Gubbio polarity zones have been dated with planktonic foraminifera. As a test of the validity of the Gubbio reversal sequence, we have studied the section at Moria, 16 km to the north. The polarity sequence at Moria closely agrees with the sequence at Gubbio; only the two thinnest polarity subzones were not found. Comparison of polarity zone thicknesses in the two sections gives an excellent correlation. Declinations in the upper part of the Moria section are somewhat erratic, suggesting the possibility of detachment surfaces and relative structural rotations at these levels. Remanent magnetic intensity varies in a cyclical pattern that is unmistakably the same in the Gubbio and Moria sections. The results from the Moria section provide strong confirmation of the validity of the magnetic polarity sequence established at Gubbio.  相似文献

A type III solar burst was observed at seven frequencies between 3.5 MHz and 80 kHz by the Michigan experiment aboard the IMP-6 satellite. From the data we can determine burst direction-of-arrival as well as time-of-arrival. We predict these quantities using simple models whose parameters we vary to obtain a good fit to the observations. We find that between 3.5 MHz and 230 kHz the observed radiation was emitted at the fundamental of the local plasma frequency while below 230 kHz it was emitted at the second harmonic. The exciter particles that produced the burst onset and burst peak have velocities of 0.27 and 0.12, respectively, in units of the velocity of light.  相似文献

The 1998 project ECOPORT, “Towards A Sustainable Transport Network”, developed by the Valencia Port Authority (VPA), established the bases for implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) in industrial harbours. The use of data and information shall always be required to develop an efficient EMS. The objective of the present research (INDAPORT) study is to propose a system of sustainable environmental management indicators to be used by any port authorities. All activities performed within a port area are analysed for any potential environmental impacts and risks.

An environmental analysis of port activities has been carried out with the objective of designing the indicators system. Twenty-one corresponding activities have been identified for large industrial ports. Subsequently, the same methodology developed to date will be later applied to other Spanish and European ports. The study has been developed by using an original system and a methodology, which simultaneously use stage diagrams and systemic models (material and energy flow charts). Multi-criteria analysis techniques were used to evaluate potential impacts (identification of factors and evaluation of impacts).  相似文献

The fact that magnetic clouds are one of the main sources causing geomagnetic storms is a well-established fact. One of the issues is to establish those features of magnetic clouds determinant in the intensity of the Dst corresponding to geomagnetic storms. We examine measurements of geoeffective magnetic clouds during the period 1995–2006 providing geomagnetic storms with Dst indexes lower than ?100 nT. These involve 46 geomagnetic storm events. After establishing the different characteristics of the magnetic clouds (plasma velocity, maximum magnetic intensity, etc.) we show some results about the correlations found among them and the storms intensity, finding that maximum magnetic field magnitude is a determinant factor to establish the importance of magnetic clouds in generating geomagnetic storms, having a correlation as good as the electric convective field.  相似文献

Radiative transfer (RT) simulations are now at the forefront of numerical astrophysics. They are becoming crucial for an increasing number of astrophysical and cosmological problems; at the same time their computational cost has come within reach of currently available computational power. Further progress is retarded by the considerable number of different algorithms (including various flavours of ray tracing and moment schemes) developed, which makes the selection of the most suitable technique for a given problem a non-trivial task. Assessing the validity ranges, accuracy and performances of these schemes is the main aim of this paper, for which we have compared 11 independent RT codes on five test problems: (0) basic physics; (1) isothermal H  ii region expansion; (2) H  ii region expansion with evolving temperature; (3) I-front trapping and shadowing by a dense clump and (4) multiple sources in a cosmological density field. The outputs of these tests have been compared and differences analysed. The agreement between the various codes is satisfactory although not perfect. The main source of discrepancy appears to reside in the multifrequency treatment approach, resulting in different thicknesses of the ionized-neutral transition regions and the temperature structure. The present results and tests represent the most complete benchmark available for the development of new codes and improvement of existing ones. To further this aim all test inputs and outputs are made publicly available in digital form.  相似文献

Center of disk EUV line intensities from quiet and active regions are used for determining an analytical expression for the variation of temperature with height in the lower corona, including the corona-chromosphere transition region. This approach imposes two coronal temperature regimes in both quiet and active regions. In each case the lower temperature regime is a continuation of the transition region, reaching a maximum of about 1.4 million deg in the quiet and 1.7 million deg in the active region. In the quiet region the high temperature regime, assumed isothermal, has a temperature of about 2.4 million deg, and in the active region, about 4.2 million deg.  相似文献
