Field examples of fault-related folds were observed in the south-western margin of the Sirt basin, south-central Libya. Single or paired (conjugate) monoclines, drape synclines, special drag faults can be put in a geometric and evolutionary model, which describes the propagation of basement faults to overlying sediments. At the first stage of evolution the propagating normal or oblique-slip faults show segmentation along-dip direction. Fault segments are separated by continuous, moderately to strongly bended horizons, which show different degrees of diagenesis than surrounding intervals. Fault-related folding and faulting was coeval with lithification of certain carbonate levels. Their gradual cementation increased the rigidity of layers promoting discrete faulting and breaching of fault-related folds. However, folding can be maintained up to the extent when layer dip approaches the dip of the propagating fault zone. This type of deformation can be characteristic for sequences consisted of lithified carbonates sandwiched between thicker marl/shale intervals. 相似文献

The Wahiba Sands in northeastern Oman are bordered on the north, south and west by highlands. Remote sensing data are used to characterize the region between 19–23.5°N and 56.5–60°E by mapping surface and near-surface drainage, faults and fractures and aeolian features. It is suggested that the sands were originally deposited with surface runoff from the principal wadis and fluvially reworked fault zones, which define the northeastern and southwestern margins. These fluvial processes resulted in the accumulation of the vast groundwater resources now stored there. During dry climates, wind became the principal modification regime and it began to sort and shape the sediments into the dune forms that characterize today's Wahiba region. The thickness of the sands reflects the depth of the basin in which they lie. The center of the basin is filled with the thickest sand (the High Sands) and contains the highest groundwater concentrations. Presently, aeolian reworking dominates in the Wahiba region, although the Low and the Peripheral Sands continue to experience some fluvial action from occasional, seasonal rainfall. A statistical evaluation of the Coupled Ocean/Atmosphere Mesoscale Prediction System (COAMPS®) was performed over the Arabian Gulf region for the period, 1 August to 5 October, 2004. Verification skill scores of bias and root-mean-square error were estimated for surface variables and for vertical profiles to investigate any diurnal variations. The model predictions of boundary-layer heights are compared with the observations at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Middle East presents challenges to numerical weather prediction due to complex land-ocean-land mesoscale processes. An independent data set of surface measurements from 50 stations in the UAE was available from the Department of Water Resources Studies, Abu Dhabi for model verification. The results indicate a diurnal variation in the model errors. The errors are small considering the magnitudes of the observed variables. Errors in the coastal region can be attributed to the differences in the timing of the onset of sea and land breeze circulations in the simulations as compared to the observations. The spectral energy distributions between λ 3700 Å and λ 8100 Å of the binary systems COU1289 and COU1291 have been measured with the Carl‐Zeiss‐Jena 1 m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. Their B, V, R magnitudes and B – V colour indices were computed and compared with earlier investigations. Model atmospheres of both systems were constructed using a grid of Kurucz blanketed models, their spectral energy distributions in the continuous spectrum were computed and compared with the observational ones. The model atmosphere parameters for the components of COU1289 were derived as: T aeff = 7100 K, T beff = 6300 K, log g a = 4.22, log g b = 4.22, R a = 1.50 R⊙, R b = 1.40 R⊙, and for the components of COU1291 as: T aeff = 6400 K, T beff = 6100 K, log g a = 4.20, log g b = 4.35, R a = 1.47 R⊙, R b = 1.12 R⊙. The spectral types of both components of the system COU1289 were concluded as F1 and F7, and of the system COU1291 as F6 and F9. Finally the formation and evolution of the systems were discussed. The paper argues that feminist geographers should view their professional biographies in a structure‐agency context. Such a theoretical perspective views events that are commonly thought to be unique and attributable to individual merit or foible as the outcome instead of interactions between actors and social structures. The exposed calcareous rocky area of the Abu Qir Headland,east of Alexandria,Egypt which range from coarse grains,through pebbles,cobbles,and boulders to rocky platforms,was significantly colonized by sclerobionts(epibionts and endobionts).The epibiont species diversity was comparatively higher than that of endobionts.Epibiont communities included bryozoans(the anascan-grade cheilostome Bifiustra savartii),serpulid(Hydroides elegans,Spirobranchus cf.tetraceros,Vermiliopsis striaticeps and Protula or Apomatus) and spirorbid(Spirorbis) wormtubes,and balanoid barnacles(Amphibalanus amphitrite,Balanus trigonus,and Perforatus perforatus).The cheilostome bryozoan colonies,which developed extensive sheets,proliferated on the study rocky shore either encrusting the bioeroded basement directly,or encrusting other epilithic taxa,particularly balanoid barnacles and serpulid worms.Encrusters displayed a remarkable marginal competitive interaction(overgrowth and stand-off) for space on the study rocky shore.On the other hand,endobionts were not well represented on the studied rocky shore exposure.It was possible to identify three ichnotaxa:Gastrochaenolites,Maeandropolydora,and Finichnus.The findings documented represent a significant contribution to our knowledge of sclerobionts composition,sequence of their colonization and/or bioero sion,and their mutual relationships on the intertidal rocky shore of the Abu Qir Headland. 相似文献

A new C15 acetogenin, cyclic enyne (12E)‐cis‐maneonene‐E ( 1 ) and (12Z)‐trans‐maneonene‐B ( 2 ), together with different secondary metabolites including sesquiterpenoid 2,10‐dibromo‐3‐chloro‐α‐chamigrene ( 3 ) and fatty acid aldehydes ( 4–8 ) were isolated from the petroleum ether extract of a red alga, identified as Laurencia papillosa, collected from the Saudi Red Sea coast. The L. papillosa crude extract and its active ingredient acetogenin ( 1 ) have been evaluated for the ability to control two main economically important pests, the confused flour beetle larvae Tribolium confusum and Culex pipiens mosquito larvae. Compound 1 showed high potential as a natural insecticide against these two pests. In the case of T. confusum larvae, the LD50 values were 0.21 and 0.16% after 6 and 12 days of treatment with crude extract and acetogenin, respectively. On the other hand, the resulting LC50 values of mosquito larvae bioassay were 30.7, 36.9, and 41.8 ppm after 24 h treatment against 2nd, 3rd, and 4th larval instars, respectively. Also, an increase of the insecticidal effects against mosquito larvae was recorded after extending treatment time to 48 h. 相似文献
