The Muth Formation is one of the most characteristic marker horizon traced throughout the northwestern Himalaya. The present
studies were carried out in the Farakah Muth (Pin Valley) section of Spiti Basin. The formation uniformly consists of quartzarenite
with a high textural and compositional maturity. The development of carbonate beds in the upper part of the Muth Formation
separates it conformably from the overlying Lipak Formation. A variety of traces were observed throughout the succession,
includes: Metaichna, Planolites, Skolithos, vertical and horizontal burrows. The presence of ichnofossils in the Muth Formation of the Farakah section indicates subtidal
settings having soft sandy substrate, whereas, the gradual maturity of the quartz grains from base to top indicates deposition

It has been shown that the maximum of climate variations in the northern subpolar zone observable over the last three decades
conforms to the maximal methane and carbonic acid content in the atmosphere of the north latitudes. Statistical analysis of
long-term variations of ground air temperature, gas composition of atmosphere, depth of seasonal melting, temperature, and
distribution area of permafrost ground in the subpolar zone of the north hemisphere testifies to significant directional changes
of basic cryolitozone characteristics. Analysis of the latitudinal distribution of flux density of anthropogenic and natural
methane showed that the greatest methane emission is in the subpolar zone of the northern hemisphere, where anthropogenic
impact is minimal. In view of the estimations of methane emission during thawing of permafrost grounds, a new hypothesis explaining
the present climate conditions in northern latitudes has been proposed. The planetary maximum of climate warming in the arctic
zone is substantially caused by methane and carbonic acid outbreaks from thawing permafrost grounds, which, in turn, is an
additional reason for the greenhouse effect. This effect is materially analogous to the influence of technogenic discharge

Because of the disparate data, reported in collaborative analyses of reference samples of rooks, various methods have been proposed for deriving "best values". This work compares those methods and several additional ones. Included are two simplified estimates of "mode" which yield values close to those of the Dominant Cluster and Gamma Transformation methods. A numerical simulation has been undertaken to study the process of the transport of small river runoff by alongshore baroclinic
sea currents. The study is based on the implementation of the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) under the conditions of a circular
stratified basin whose surface is exposed to a transient tangential wind stress to form an alongshore baroclinic current.
A baroclinic current of the downwelling type (in the Northern Hemisphere directed to the left to a sea-viewing observer) was
shown to provide the carrying out of the river discharge from estuary’s vicinity more effectively than that of the upwelling

Oxygen and strontium isotope ratios have been used to characterize source regions for granitic magmas for a transect across the northern Appalachian orogen in central and eastern Maine. The northwestern plutons (Katahdin and Seboeis) have δ18O values of 10.3–13.3 and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7083 and 0.7066, respectively. The central plutons (Bottle Lake and Center Pond) have lower δ18O values (8.2–9.9) and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7043–0.7055). The southeastern plutons (Lucerne and Deblois) have δ18O values (9.0–11.0) but initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7077 and 0.7041, respectively) which are intermediate between the northwestern and central plutons.Source models derived from these results and other petrological and geochemical data reflect the juxtaposition of discrete source regions by transcurrent faulting, which may be related to oblique plate motions. The regularities of the Ebro River delta formation and the impact of hydraulic construction on the river sediment runoff are discussed. As shown, the drastic reduction of the sediment runoff after the construction of two large reservoirs in the lower river reaches in the 1960s slowed down the delta protrusion and intensified the delta coastline washout. 相似文献
