We review three Li problems. First, the Li problem in the Sun, for which some previous studies have argued that it may be Li-poor compared to other Suns. Second, we discuss the Li problem in planet hosting stars, which are claimed to be Li-poor when compared to field stars. Third, we discuss the cosmological Li problem, i.e. the discrepancy between the Li abundance in metal-poor stars (Spite plateau stars) and the predictions from standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. In all three cases we find that the “problems” are naturally explained by non-standard mixing in stars.  相似文献

A Monte-Carlo model of exospheres (Wurz and Lammer, 2003) was extended by treating the ion-induced sputtering process, photon-stimulated desorption, and micro-meteorite impact vaporisation quantitatively in a self-consistent way starting with the actual release of particles from the mineral surface of Mercury. Based on available literature data we established a global model for the surface mineralogy of Mercury and from that derived the average elemental composition of the surface. This model serves as a tool to estimate densities of species in the exosphere depending on the release mechanism and the associated physical parameters quantitatively describing the particle release from the surface.Our calculation shows that the total contribution to the exospheric density at the Hermean surface by solar wind sputtering is about 4×107 m-3, which is much less than the experimental upper limit of the exospheric density of 1012 m-3. The total calculated exospheric density from micro-meteorite impact vaporisation is about 1.6×108 m-3, also much less than the observed value. We conclude that solar wind sputtering and micro-meteorite impact vaporisation contribute only a small fraction of Mercury’s exosphere, at least close to the surface. Because of the considerably larger scale height of atoms released via sputtering into the exosphere, sputtered atoms start to dominate the exosphere at altitudes exceeding around 1000 km, with the exception of some light and abundant species released thermally, e.g. H2 and He. Because of Mercury’s strong gravitational field not all particles released by sputtering and micro-meteorite impact escape. Over extended time scales this will lead to an alteration of the surface composition.  相似文献

South-eastern Spain is a key area for assessing the effects of climate change on biodiversity since it presents an ecotone between the Mediterranean biome and the subtropical shrublands of arid lands. The forests of Tetraclinis articulata constitutes an especially relevant case. A species distribution model has been developed, regionalised climate change scenarios for South-eastern Spain were generated and expected changes in the suitability area of this species were estimated under B2 and A2 SRES scenarios for the time slice 2020–2050. Moreover, land use in the present and future potential habitat has been analysed. The high sensitivity of T. articulata is expressed not only as effects of climate change in the near future when compared to the present-day situation but also in the remarkable differences under scenarios B2 and A2. Under scenario B2 the suitable area for T. articulata would expand six-fold whereas under A2 the potential habitat would disappear from its present-day distribution and would move to a small area in the interior mountains. Under scenario B2 the future potential habitat in the coastal location would include enough area of shrublands, the main effective habitat of the species. Moreover, the present and future potential habitat partially overlaps, which facilitates the species migration. On the contrary, in the interior potential habitat the land use is less favourable for the effective habitat, the actual and future potential habitat do not overlap and the low dispersal capabilities of the species prevents natural migration to the interior to be expected.  相似文献

GOLD (Grupo de Óptica de Láminas Delgadas) is devoted to the development of novel coatings with challenging performance in the far and the extreme ultraviolet (FUV-EUV, 50–200 nm). One of the main goals of this research is to provide the communities of astronomy, solar physics and atmospheric physics with coatings with high reflectance or transmittance at a target wavelength or band, and high rejection of the out-of-band at this complicated spectral range. Above the transparency cutoff of MgF2 (115 nm), transmittance filters based on Al/MgF2 multilayers have been developed peaked at wavelengths as short as 124 nm, with a peak transmittance of 27% and a FWHM of 12 nm for a non-aged coating. Below 115 nm, a research on reflectance filters has recently started with very promising results on filters peaked at the 83.4 nm OII spectral line. Fresh filters with 27% peak reflectance at normal incidence and a FWHM of 14 nm have been obtained. Furthermore, the peak reflectance wavelength of these filters can be tuned by rotation. A filter peaked at 83 nm at normal incidence will shift to ~73 nm at 30 deg from the normal and to ~58 nm at 45 deg. These novel reflective filters based on Al, Yb and SiO must still demonstrate stability over time.  相似文献

We study the Jupiter family comet (JFC) population assumed to come from the Scattered Disk and transferred to the Jupiter’s zone through gravitational interactions with the Jovian planets. We shall define as JFCs those with orbital periods and Tisserand parameters in the range 2<T?3.1, while those comets coming from the same source, but that do not fulfill the previous criteria (mainly because they have periods ) will be called ‘non-JFCs’. We performed a series of numerical simulations of fictitious comets with a purely dynamical model and also with a more complete dynamical-physical model that includes besides nongravitational forces, sublimation and splitting mechanisms. With the dynamical model, we obtain a poor match between the computed distributions of orbital elements and the observed ones. However with the inclusion of physical effects in the complete model we are able to obtain good fits to observations. The best fits are attained with four splitting models with a relative weak dependence on q, and a mass loss in every splitting event that is less when the frequency is high and vice versa. The mean lifetime of JFCs with radii and is found to be of about 150-200 revolutions (∼. The total population of JFCs with radii within Jupiter’s zone is found to be of 450±50. Yet, the population of non-JFCs with radii in Jupiter-crossing orbits may be ∼4 times greater, thus leading to a whole population of JFCs + non-JFCs of ∼2250±250. Most of these comets have perihelia close to Jupiter’s orbit. On the other hand, very few non-JFCs reach the Earth’s vicinity (perihelion distances ) which gives additional support to the idea that JFCs and Halley-type comets have different dynamical origins. Our model allows us to define the zones of the orbital element space in which we would expect to find a large number of JFCs. This is the first time, to our knowledge, that a physico-dynamical model is presented that includes sublimation and different splitting laws. Our work helps to understand the role played by these erosion effects in the distribution of the orbital elements and lifetimes of JFCs.  相似文献

IGR  J08408−4503  is a supergiant fast X–ray transient discovered in 2006 with a confirmed association with a O8.5Ib(f) supergiant star, HD 74194. We report on the analysis of two outbursts caught by Swift /Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on 2006 October 4 and 2008 July 5, and followed up at softer energies with Swift /X-ray Telescope (XRT). The 2008 XRT light curve shows a multiple-peaked structure with an initial bright flare that reached a flux of  ∼10−9 erg cm−2 s−1  (2–10 keV), followed by two equally bright flares within 75 ks. The spectral characteristics of the flares differ dramatically, with most of the difference, as derived via time-resolved spectroscopy, being due to absorbing column variations. We observe a gradual decrease in the N H, derived with a fit using absorbed power-law model, as time passes. We interpret these N H variations as due to an ionization effect produced by the first flare, resulting in a significant decrease in the measured column density towards the source. The durations of the flares as well as the times of the outbursts suggest that the orbital period is ∼35 d, if the flaring activity is interpreted within the framework of the Sidoli et al. model with the outbursts triggered by the neutron star passage inside an equatorial wind inclined with respect to the orbital plane.  相似文献

Peculiar magmatic rocks were erupted and emplaced at depth at the margin of the Gondwana supercontinent during the Cambro-Ordovician transition. These rocks are characterized by high contents in silica and iron but they do not have equivalents in the high-silica members of the calc-alkaline series. They have particular geochemical signatures, with Al saturation index, ASI > 1, FeO > 2.5 wt.%, MgO > 0.8 wt.% for very low contents in calcium (CaO < 2.0 wt.%), supporting a derivation from near-total melting (> 80 vol.% melt) of metagreywackes. The results from inverse experiments indicate that the most plausible conditions are within the range 1000 °C (excess water) and 1100–1200 °C (subsaturated and dry) at pressures of 1.5 to 2.0 GPa. A tectonic scenario implying melting of subducted sediments within an ascending mantle-wedge plume is suggested for the generation of primary ferrosilicic melts at the Gondwana continental margin during Upper Cambrian to Lower Ordovician times.  相似文献

Recent trends in climate modeling find in GRID computing a powerful way to achieve results by sharing geographically distributed computing and storage resources. In particular, ensemble prediction experiments are based on the generation of multiple model simulations to explore, statistically, the existing uncertainties in weather and climate forecast. In this paper, we present a GRID application consisting of a state-of-the-art climate model. The main goal of the application is to provide a tool that can be used by a climate researcher to run ensemble-based predictions on the GRID for sensitivity studies. One of the main duties of this tool is the management of a workflow involving long-term jobs and data management in a user-friendly way. In this paper we show that, due to weaknesses of current GRID middleware, this management is complex task. Those weaknesses made necessary the development of a robust workflow adapted to the requirements of the climate application. As an illustrative scientific challenge, the application is applied to study the El Niño phenomenon, by simulating an El Niño year with different forcing conditions and analyzing the precipitation response over south-American countries subject to flooding risk.  相似文献

The Galeras volcanic complex, located in the Nariño department, SW Colombia, includes the most historically active volcano in the country, Galeras, a 4276 m high stratovolcano located 9 km west of the city of San Juan de Pasto (400,000 inhabitants). The area is also affected by the continental faulting represented by the Buesaco, Aranda and Pasto faults belonging to one of the most seismically active structures in Colombia, the Romeral fault system. Several moderate to strong shallow earthquakes affected the city of San Juan de Pasto and its neighbouring region since the XVII century. The coexistence of an active volcanic complex and an active fault system complicates the study and interpretation of the different processes taking place in the region as well as the identification of any connection or interaction among them.The reactivation of the volcano in 1989 was characterized by three main magmatic events: (1) a series of Vulcanian eruptions during 4–9 May 1989, with semi-continuous ash emissions from a secondary crater; (2) the emplacement of an andesitic lava dome at the bottom of the main crater from September 1990 until December 1991; and (3) six Vulcanian eruptions from the main crater during 1992–1993, with destruction of most of the dome during the first one on 16 July 1992. During the same period, four earthquake sequences were located in a limited area N and NE of Galeras volcano on August–September 1989 (AUG1989), April–June 1993 (APR1993), November–December 1993 (NOV1993) and March–August 1995 (MAR1995). The last one included a Ml4.7 main shock on 4 March 1995 producing moderate to high damage in the epicentral region (MSK maximum intensity VIII), and in the city of San Juan de Pasto (VI–VII). The last damaging earthquake in the region was a MSK-intensity VIII–IX in 1947.A detailed analysis of the spatio-temporal characteristics of the four earthquake sequences allowed identifying their different origin and suggesting some interrelationship between the reactivated eruptive process and the contemporaneous seismic activity. The AUG1989 sequence presents a typical volcanic swarm-like pattern most probably related with the process of magma intrusion from depth at the beginning of the volcano's reactivation. The APR1993, the NOV1993 and the MAR1995 sequences show a clear tectonic origin with events occurring on rupture planes almost vertical that can be associated to the active faults in the area, The seismogenic process of these three sequences could have been activated or accelerated by the main eruptions during 1992–1993.These results suggest that constrains provided by improved relocations and the detailed analysis of the space–time characteristics of earthquake sequences in Galeras volcanic environment allow to establish the different generation mechanisms involved and to suggest feasible explanations on the possible interrelationships of the magmatic–volcanic processes and the seismicity observed.  相似文献
