Heat flow calculations based on geological and/or geophysical indicators can help to constrain the thickness, and potentially the geochemical stratification, of the martian crust. Here we analyze the Warrego rise region, part of the ancient mountain range referred to as the Thaumasia highlands. This region has a crustal thickness much greater than the martian average, as well as estimations of the depth to the brittle-ductile transition beneath two scarps interpreted to be thrust faults. For the local crustal density (2900 kg m−3) favored by our analysis of the flexural state of compensation of the local topography, the crustal thickness is at least 70 and 75 km at the scarp locations. However, for one of the scarp locations our nominal model does not obtain heat flow solutions permitting a homogeneous crust as thick as required. Our results, therefore, suggest that the crust beneath the Warrego rise region is chemically stratified with a heat-producing enriched upper layer thinner than the whole crust. Moreover, if the mantle heat flow (at the time of scarp formation) was higher than 0.3 of the surface heat low, as predicted by thermal history models, then a stratified crust rise seems unavoidable for this region, even if local heat-producing element abundances lower than average or hydrostatic pore pressure are considered. We study the zonal flow in solar subsurface layers, analyzing about six years of GONG++ high-resolution Doppler data with
ring-diagram analysis. We focus on the variation of zonal flow with magnetic activity over a range of depths from the surface
to about 16 Mm. There is a positive correlation between unsigned magnetic flux and zonal flow at most depths. We calculate
the average zonal flow for a quiet- and an active-region subset defined as dense-pack locations with an unsigned magnetic
flux less than 3.4 G and locations with greater than 65.0 G, respectively. The average zonal flow of active regions is about
4 m s−1 larger than the average flow of quiet regions. This difference increases slightly with increasing depth, which might be explained
by a nonradial inclination of the flux tubes or a different extent in depth of different magnetic features. The difference
shows no apparent pattern in time and latitude, which makes it unlikely that it is simply a manifestation of the torsional-oscillation
pattern. As a byproduct, we find that the size of the North – South asymmetry of the rotation rate decreases during the same

An analysis has been made of sedimentary systems involved in the rapid silting of a reservoir constructed in 1974 in Alhama
de Granada (S. Spain); in only 30 years the storage capacity of the reservoir has shrunk by 80% and its perimeter has decreased
by 64%. A study of sediment lithofacies identified in a series of shallow trenches and of georadar facies identified in a
series of almost 900 m lines of ground penetrating radar (GPR) images, together with a survey of surface geology, has identified
3 alluvial systems (2 transversal systems and a longitudinal system) whose deltas have filled in the reservoir. Thus, there
are three phases in the evolution of the reservoir siltation: (1) an initial stage (1974–1977) typified by northward progradation
of the longitudinal river delta of about 100 m year−1 and an eastward progradation of the transversal system delta of about 20 m year−1; (2) an intermediate stage (1977–1984) in which the longitudinal river delta progradation slowed to 25 m year−1 and the axial drainage became obstructed due to the considerable eastward progradation of the transversal delta; and (3)
a final phase (1984–present) in which there have been few changes in the areal distribution of the deltas apart from a southeastward
expansion of the transversal delta. Generally, aggradational growth patterns (vertical accretion) have dominated in this final
phase. The lithology of the source area, the slope and precipitation distribution has a significant effect not only on the
sediment supply, but also indirectly on the creation of accommodation space and on the evolution of stratal growth patterns. 相似文献

We present the mathematical deduction and properties of the mean traveltime curves for homogeneous elliptical anisotropic
media. These curves generalize their isotropic counterparts which have been introduced in the past as a simple data quality
analysis technique at the pre-inversion stage for 2D transmission experiments, allowing the inference of prior velocity models
to gain stability at the tomographic inversion. Also, the anisotropy parameters (maximum velocity, anisotropic direction and
ratio) are shown to affect the shape of these curves. The degree of asymmetry of the anisotropic mean traveltime curves (displacement
of the mean time and standard deviation minima from the middle of the gathering line) is related to the direction of anisotropy
which can then be visually estimated. Least squares’ fitting of the anisotropic theoretical models to their experimental counterparts
is an effective method to estimate at the pre-inversion stage a macroscopic elliptical anisotropic velocity model, valid at
the scale of the experiment, and able to match the experimental mean traveltime distribution.
Sensitivity analysis has shown that the mean curve is less prone to errors than the standard deviation curve. Parameter identification
from the standard deviation curve becomes unstable for noise levels higher than 5%; data errors produce smearing of the value
of the estimated anisotropy ratio and wrong directions of anisotropy biased towards zero degrees. Also, identification from
the mean traveltime curve becomes stable when the maximum velocity is well constrained. Finally, this methodology is illustrated
with the application to the Grimsel data set. Performing MTC analysis is always recommended since it does not need high numerical
requirements, and as shown in the sensibility analysis section, errors in data can be misinterpreted as geological anisotropies.

A Blocking Markov Chain Monte Carlo Method for Inverse Stochastic Hydrogeological Modeling 总被引:3,自引:2,他引:1
An adequate representation of the detailed spatial variation of subsurface parameters for underground flow and mass transport
simulation entails heterogeneous models. Uncertainty characterization generally calls for a Monte Carlo analysis of many equally
likely realizations that honor both direct information (e.g., conductivity data) and information about the state of the system
(e.g., piezometric head or concentration data). Thus, the problems faced is how to generate multiple realizations conditioned
to parameter data, and inverse-conditioned to dependent state data. We propose using Markov chain Monte Carlo approach (MCMC)
with block updating and combined with upscaling to achieve this purpose. Our proposal presents an alternative block updating
scheme that permits the application of MCMC to inverse stochastic simulation of heterogeneous fields and incorporates upscaling
in a multi-grid approach to speed up the generation of the realizations. The main advantage of MCMC, compared to other methods
capable of generating inverse-conditioned realizations (such as the self-calibrating or the pilot point methods), is that
it does not require the solution of a complex optimization inverse problem, although it requires the solution of the direct

Using a sample of 14 BeppoSAX and 74 Swift GRBs with measured redshift we tested the correlation between the intrinsic peak energy of the time-integrated spectrum, E p, i , the isotropic-equivalent peak luminosity, L p,iso , and the duration of the most intense parts of the GRB computed as T 0.45 ('Firmani correlation'). For 41 out of 88 GRBs we could estimate all of the three required properties. Apart from 980425, which appears to be a definite outlier and notoriously peculiar in many respects, we used 40 GRBs to fit the correlation with the maximum likelihood method discussed by D'Agostini, suitable to account for the extrinsic scatter in addition to the intrinsic uncertainties affecting every single GRB. We confirm the correlation. However, unlike the results by Firmani et al., we found that the correlation does have a logarithmic scatter comparable with that of the E p, i – E iso ('Amati') correlation. We also find that the slope of the product L p,iso T 0.45 is equal to ∼0.5, which is consistent with the hypothesis that the E p, i – L p,iso – T 0.45 correlation is equivalent to the E p, i – E iso correlation (slope ∼0.5). We conclude that, based on presently available data, there is no clear evidence that the E p, i – L p,iso – T 0.45 correlation is different (both in terms of slope and dispersion) from the E p, i – E iso correlation. 相似文献

We have identified three possible ways in which future XMM‐Newton observations can provide significant constraints on the equation of state of neutron stars. First, using a long observation of the neutron star X‐ray transient Cen X‐4 in quiescence one can use the RGS spectrum to constrain the interstellar extinction to the source. This removes this parameter from the X‐ray spectral fitting of the pn and MOS spectra and allows us to investigate whether the variability observed in the quiescent X‐ray spectrum of this source is due to variations in the soft thermal spectral component or variations in the power law spectral component coupled with variations in NH. This will test whether the soft thermal spectral component can indeed be due to the hot thermal glow of the neutron star. Potentially such an observation could also reveal redshifted spectral lines from the neutron star surface. Second, XMM‐Newton observations of radius expansion type I Xray bursts might reveal redshifted absorption lines from the surface of the neutron star. Third, XMM‐Newton observations of eclipsing quiescent low‐mass X‐ray binaries provide the eclipse duration. With this the system inclination can be determined accurately. The inclination determined from the X‐ray eclipse duration in quiescence, the rotational velocity of the companion star and the semi‐amplitude of the radial velocity curve determined through optical spectroscopy, yield the neutron star mass. The Chirripó hydrological research site (CHRS) is located within the Chirripó National Park, Costa Rica (between 3100 and 3820 m asl) whereby ~100 km2 are covered by Páramo, a high-elevation tropical grassland ecosystem. A lake district with approximately 30 lakes of glacial origin is also protected in this area. The CHRS has been monitored since April 2015 with the aim of establishing the first water isotope baseline for the Central American Páramo. At a regional scale, the water isotope ratios (δ2H and δ18O) in precipitation and surface water at CHRS are useful for describing the governing moisture transport from the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean and the complex rainfall producing systems across the N–S mountain range of Central America. These data are also providing unique information about the evaporation and water balance conditions of tropical glacial lakes and the formation of orographic and convective precipitation in high-elevation tropical ecosystems. Current data sets from CHRS include continuous lake water temperature and meteorological conditions (i.e., precipitation amount, air temperature and relative humidity), as well as water stable isotopes in precipitation, stream water, and lake water (daily to biweekly sampling frequency). Stream water is collected at several locations across the topographic gradient whereas lake water is sampled in the three main lake systems of CHRS. CHRS serves as a reference site for conducting pilot isotopic research in high-elevation ecosystems to advance the atmospheric, hydrogeological and ecohydrological studies in these understudied biomes.
