Viscoelastic (VE) dampers, with their stiffness and energy dissipation capabilities, have been widely used in civil engineering for mitigating wind-induced vibration and seismic responses of structures, thus enhancing the comfort of residents and serviceability of equipment inside. In past relevant research, most analytical models for characterizing the mechanical behavior of VE dampers were verified by comparing their predictions with performance test results from small-scale specimens, which might not adequately or conservatively represent the actual behavior of full-scale dampers, especially with regard to the ambient temperature, temperature rise, and heat convection effects. Thus, in this study, by using a high-performance testing facility with a temperature control system, full-scale VE dampers were dynamically tested with different displacement amplitudes, excitation frequencies, and ambient temperatures. By comparing the analytical predictions with the experimental results, it is demonstrated that adopting the fractional derivative method together with considering the effects of excitation frequencies, ambient temperatures, temperature rises, softening, and hardening, can reproduce the design performance of full-scale VE dampers very well. 相似文献

To prevent confusion between water and buildings in the extraction of urban surface water from hyperspectral data, we analyzed the spectra of shadows and water in hyperspectral images, and proposed an anti-shadow water extraction method. This method first uses the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for initial water extraction, then uses the height of the reflectance peak at 588 nm to eliminate the shadow of buildings. The method was validated by two hyperspectral datacubes, which were obtained for Jiaxing City and Zhoushan City in Zhejiang Province, China. Compared to the common spectral indices used to extract a water body, such as the NDVI, normalized difference water index, hyperspectral difference water index, and index of water index, the proposed method could effectively eliminate the shadow of buildings. The commission error reduced from more than 40% to about 15%, and the Kappa coefficient was increased from 60 and 70% to over 80% for the two datacubes. A common assumption with groundwater sampling is that low (<0.5 L/min) pumping rates during well purging and sampling captures primarily lateral flow from the formation through the well-screened interval at a depth coincident with the pump intake. However, if the intake is adjacent to a low hydraulic conductivity part of the screened formation, this scenario will induce vertical groundwater flow to the pump intake from parts of the screened interval with high hydraulic conductivity. Because less formation water will initially be captured during pumping, a substantial volume of water already in the well (preexisting screen water or screen storage) will be captured during this initial time until inflow from the high hydraulic conductivity part of the screened formation can travel vertically in the well to the pump intake. Therefore, the length of the time needed for adequate purging prior to sample collection (called optimal purge duration) is controlled by the in-well, vertical travel times. A preliminary, simple analytical model was used to provide information on the relation between purge duration and capture of formation water for different gross levels of heterogeneity (contrast between low and high hydraulic conductivity layers). The model was then used to compare these time–volume relations to purge data (pumping rates and drawdown) collected at several representative monitoring wells from multiple sites. Results showed that computation of time-dependent capture of formation water (as opposed to capture of preexisting screen water), which were based on vertical travel times in the well, compares favorably with the time required to achieve field parameter stabilization. If field parameter stabilization is an indicator of arrival time of formation water, which has been postulated, then in-well, vertical flow may be an important factor at wells where low-flow sampling is the sample method of choice. 相似文献

In this paper new data on the absolute age and geochemistry of rocks of the Bol’shakovskii massif, situated in the central
part of the Aramil-Sukhteli zone of the Southern Urals, are given. The obtained values are evidence for its Visean age. By
the geological-petrographic and petro- and geochemical features, the rocks of the Bol’shakovskii complex differ sharply from
ophiolite-type gabbroids, although they reveal a substantial similarity with the gabbro-granite formation of the Magnitogorsk
megazone. The Bol’shakovskii massif is situated in the northern branch of the South Urals zone of Early Carboniferous riftogenesis;

One effect of climate change may be increased hurricane frequency or intensity due to changes in atmospheric and geoclimatic
factors. It has been hypothesized that wetland restoration and infrastructure hardening measures may improve infrastructure
resilience to increased hurricane frequency and intensity. This paper describes a parametric decision model used to assess
the tradeoffs between wetland restoration and infrastructure hardening for electric power networks. We employ a hybrid economic
input–output life-cycle analysis (EIO-LCA) model to capture: construction costs and life-cycle emissions for transitioning
from the current electric power network configuration to a hardened network configuration; construction costs and life-cycle
emissions associated with wetland restoration; and the intrinsic value of wetland restoration. Uncertainty is accounted for
probabilistically through a Monte Carlo hurricane simulation model and parametric sensitivity analysis for the number of hurricanes
expected to impact the project area during the project cycle and the rate of wetland storm surge attenuation. Our analysis
robustly indicates that wetland restoration and undergrounding of electric power network infrastructure is not preferred to
the “do-nothing” option of keeping all power lines overhead without wetland protection. However, we suggest a few items for
future investigation. For example, our results suggest that, for the small case study developed, synergistic benefits of simultaneously
hardening infrastructure and restoring wetlands may be limited, although research using a larger test bed while integrating
additional costs may find an enhanced value of wetland restoration for disaster loss mitigation. 相似文献
