A survey of soil gas radon concentrations has been carried out at three sites, in the seismic area of Armenia, from 1996 to 1999. The seismicity generates opposed behaviours at the different sites. This heterogeneity is related to the sites locations in the tectonic frame. An increase of radon concentration occurs inside the tectonic micro-blocks during local seismic activity. On the contrary, an abrupt co-seismic decrease is recorded close to the fault area. These variations can be due to ‘pore-collapse’ phenomena which expulse the pore-gas and increases Rn concentration in soil at intra-blocs sites, but also to pore-elastic deformations and microfracturing modifications in the fault area. Late Triassic magnetostratigraphic investigations in southwestern Turkey have suggested that parts of the Antalya Nappes are constituted of a melange of blocks originally deposited either in the vicinity of the northern tip of Arabia or, more surprisingly, directly north of India, in the southern hemisphere. In order to ascertain this result more clearly, we have correlated the Turkish series with Austrian sections of corresponding age from the Northern Calcareous Alps, for which the hemisphere of deposition is beyond doubt. The new magnetostratigraphic results obtained from the Scheiblkogel section (Austria) confirm the previously suggested middle to late Norian magnetic polarity sequence and support the heterogeneous character of the Antalya Nappes. 相似文献

The disruption of lithologies by cross-cutting faults and the variability in volcanic structures make the hydrogeology of the rifted volcanic terrain in Ethiopia very complex. Along two transects, selected due to their hydrogeologic characteristics, groundwater flow, depth of circulation and geochemical evolution have been conceptualized. The groundwater flow continuity between the high rainfall plateau bounding the rift and the rift valley aquifers depends principally on the nature of the bounding faults. Up to 50% of recharge to the rift aquifers comes from the plateau as groundwater inflow where the rift is cross cut by transverse fault zones. Recharge from the mountains is found to be insignificant where the rift is bounded by marginal grabens; channel loss and local precipitation are the principal sources of recharge to the rift aquifers in such cases. At a regional scale, there is a clear zonation in the geochemical compositions of groundwaters, the result of aquifer matrix composition differences. The environmental isotope results show that the majority of the aquifers contain modern groundwaters. In a few localities, particularly in thermal groundwaters representing deeper circulation, palaeo-groundwaters have been identified. The sea surface salinity (SSS) derived from a network developed at Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD/Nouméa)
has been analyzed during the period 1995–1998 in the tropical western Pacific. The measurements were made with thermosalinographs
installed on merchant ships selected for their regularity and routes. The western tropical Pacific was sampled mainly along
three regular routes across the equator leading to an average of a one month frequency. We analyze here how such a network
can be efficient in monitoring the SSS at time scales longer than one month. For this purpose we have used results derived
from the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) which is forced by the surface flux of National Centers for Environmental Prediction
(NCEP) reanalysis data. The interannual variability of the simulated SSS exhibits very similar features to (sub-sampled) observations
despite its being weakly damped to a climatology in order to avoid biases. Even smaller time scale phenomena can be simulated,
like the erosion/reconstruction of the region composed of low density waters lying within the Pacific warm pool. The agreement
between the observational data and the simulations indicate that the network sampling is sufficient to monitor the SSS variability
of the western tropical Pacific from three-month to interannual time scales.

Abstract. Important intertidal sabellarian reefs are built by the polychaete Sabellaria alveolata (LINNÉ ) in the Mont Saint-Michel Bay in Normandy at Champeaux (France). Typical profiles and plans were done over a ten year period. At the same time, population dynamics were examined during the last six years. At this site a nearly complete morphological cycle spread itself over more than ten years. Initially built on rock substrate (primary settlement phase), the studied reefs actually lie on a sandy shore. The growth phase begins by stages of balls which are then joined with new settlements between or on older tubes (secondary settlement). This phase comes to an end with an important platform stage. Then, the destruction phase brings us back to dead eroded reefs on which new worms can settle (secondary settlement). This cycle seems to be independent of the age of the living population, although new settlements of young worms and also sufficient hydrodynamics seem necessary. 相似文献

A study of the C/N ratios of particulate matter in the eastern part of the Gulf of Guinea demonstrated a statistically significant spatial variation in these ratios. The variation in the ratios ranged between 7.2 and 9.5 and were due in part to differences in the composition of the suspended organic matter and in part to its age and history. Young nutrient rich waters had low ratios (generally less than 7), whereas older waters often had ratios greater than 10. A relation between Chlorophyl a and the C/N ratio was also observed. The distribution of C/P ratios with depth showed a linear correlation with the vertical distribution of oxygen (r = 0.74). C/P values in the neighbourhood of 100 at the surface, increased with depth to around 300 at 1000 m. 相似文献
