The authors have presented the results of inelastic earthquake response analysis of a class of asymmetric building models and concluded that regularly asymmetric buildings excited well into the inelastic range may not be conservatively designed via modal analysis of their elastic models. The purpose of this short communication is to refer to the results in contrast to the authors' and to make some comments on their paper.  相似文献

 Four kinds of Cr-droped melilite crystals, Ca2MgSi2O7 (akermanite), CaAl2SiO7 (gehlenite), CaGa2SiO7 (Ga-gehlenite) and CaGa2GeO7 (GaGe-gehlenite), with different sizes of the sites for Cr ions to substitute, were grown in series, using both the CZ and FZ techniques. Although Cr4+ is regarded as a major species in melilites, the existence of Cr6+ in gehlenite is also suggested from the change in absorption spectra by annealing, and the dependence of distribution coefficient of Cr ions on growth atmosphere. Spectral peak shifts are not obvious if the host crystal field is altered in melilites, because the local environment of the sites for Cr ion is possibly changed by reforming the packing features of the host lattice. A new magnetodynamic model for loop flares is proposed to explain the following observational facts obtained from space during the last solar activity maximum: (i) Blueshifted lines of Ca xix and Fe xxv appear in some cases a minute or so before the initiation of impulsive bursts and relax into the unshifted lines with large width by the time of the onset of impulsive bursts, (ii) the hot source is formed by that time at the top of a loop-like structure, and confined there for a considerable time, and (iii) -ray line enhancement occurs at about the same time as hard X-ray spikes.In our model, the supply of energy to the loop top comes from below the chromosphere immediately before the flare (30 s-1 min before the hard X-ray impulsive bursts) in the form of the relaxing fronts of magnetic twist of opposite sign. These packets are thought to be built up in the process of loop emergence, stored at the footpoints of the loop below the photosphere, and released when the part of the feet floats up further. These released packets of magnetic twist drive the mass in the high chromosphere and transition zone into helical flows with pinch heating, and when these collide at the top of the loop, a very hot region appears there with a violent unwinding of the twists, resulting in the rapid dynamical annihilation of the magnetic energy, . Electrons and ions, raised to medium energies in the pinch at the incidence of the packets to the loop, are accelerated further by the Fermi-I mechanism between the approaching fronts of magnetic twist, and when B is weakened by unwinding they are released towards the chromosphere, and cause simultaneous -ray and hard X-ray bursts.  相似文献

We propose a model of chemical evolution of the galactic halo which consists of a succession of two different evolutionary stages; each stage is characterized by different outflow rate of gas from the star-forming region so that different metal-enrichment rate is resulted. The low-metal stars with [Fe/H]<–0.8 are formed mainly during the first 3×108 yr, and most of the high-metal stars with [Fe/H]–0.8 are formed during the succeeding 2×109 yr. This model naturally explains the metallicity distribution of globular clusters in the galactic halo including both the metal-rich and the metal-poor clusters. We also discuss the implications of the present model on the formation and evolution of the galactic halo.  相似文献

Large-scale active coronal phenomena in Yohkoh SXT images   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We have found several occurrences of slowly rising giant arches inYohkoh images. These are similar to the giant post-flare arches previously discovered by SMM instruments in the 80s. However, we see them now with 3–5 times better spatial resolution and can recognize well their loop-like structure. As a rule, these arches followeruptive flares with gradual soft X-ray bursts, and rise with speeds of 1.1–2.4 km s–1 which keep constant for >5 to 24 hours, reaching altitudes up to 250 000 km above the solar limb. These arches differ from post-flare loop systems by their (much higher) altitudes, (much longer) lifetimes, and (constant) speed of growth. One event appears to be a rise of a transequatorial interconnecting loop.In the event of 21–22 February 1992 one can see both the loop system, rising with a gradually decreasing speed to an altitude of 120 000 km, and the arch, emerging from behind the loops and continuing to rise with a constant speed for many more hours up to 240 000 km above the solar limb. In the event of 2–3 November 1991 three subsequent rising large-scale coronal systems can be recognized: first a fast one with speed increasing with altitude and ceasing to be visible at about 300 000 km. This most probably shows the X-ray signature of a coronal mass ejection (CME). A second one, with gradually decreasing speed, might represent very high rising flare loops. A third one continues to rise slowly with a constant speed up to 230 000 km (and up to 285 000 km after the speed begins to decay), and this is the giant arch. This event, including an arch revival on November 4–5, is very similar to rising giant arches observed by the SMM on 6–7 November 1980. Other events of this kind were observed on 27–28 April 1992, 15 March 1993, and 4–6 November 1993, all seen above the solar limb, where it is much easier to identify them.The temperature in the brightest part of the arch of 2–3 November 1991 was increasing with its altitude, from 2 to 4 × 106 K, which seems to be an effect of slower cooling at lower densities. Under an assumption of line-of-sight thickness of 50 000 km, the emission measure indicates densities from 1.1 × 1010 cm–3 at an altitude of 150 000 km to 1.0 × 109 cm–3 at 245 000 km 11.5 hours later. It appears that the arch is composed of plasma of widely different temperatures, and that hot plasma rises faster than the cool component. Thus the whole arch expands upward, and its density gradient increases with time, which explains whyYohkoh images show only the lowest and coolest parts of the expanding structure. The whole arch may represent an energy in excess of 1031 erg, and more if conduction contributes to the arch cooling.We suggest that the rise of the arch is initiated by a CME which removes the magnetic field and plasma in the upper corona, and the coronal structures remaining below this cavity begin to expand into the vacuum left behind the CME. However, we are unable to explain why the speed of rise stays constant for so many hours.  相似文献

90Sr and137Cs concentrations and their vertical distributions were determined in deep waters in the western Northwest Pacific, including the adjacent seas of Japan, from 1976 to 1979.The profiles of the radionuclides show distribution patterns with two parts with an exponential variation of radioisotope content with depth in both parts.Generally speaking, the inventories of90Sr and137Cs in the open waters of the northwestern Pacific correspond fairly well to the fallout inputs, but in some circumstances there seems to be considerable removal of radionuclides from the water column or they are diluted with water of lower radioactivity from other regions.The possibility of radioisotope remobilization from the bottom sediment or particulate matter is also discussed.  相似文献

An improved gas chromatographic system was constructed to analyze oceanic dissolved N2, Ar and O2 with a higher accuracy and shorter analytical time. To obtain a higher accuracy of N2, Ar and O2 measurements, the following was added to the system: (I) an air trapping system; (II) a N2–CO2 trapping system after the operation of the air trapping system; (III) an active carbon column system for separating N2 and CO2 completely and (IV) the introduction of automatic valves controlling most of the system. Compared to previous studies, the precision of the measurements of N2, Ar and O2 concentrations was higher at 0.04%, 0.05% and 0.02%, respectively, and our analytical time was shorter at 600 s. Using the improved analytical technique, concentrations of N2 (CN2, 561.69–611.81 μmol/kg) and Ar (CAr, 15.126–16.238 μmol/kg), saturation states of N2 (ΔN2, − 5.1–0.9%) and Ar (ΔAr, − 7.0 to − 1.1%) from 0 m to 3000 m depth in the western North Pacific were observed during March 2005. Based on these data, we propose a new concept for estimating the amount of bubble injection (B). The total error in calculating B was estimated to be about 20%. We estimated B from 12 to 43 μmol/kg in this region using the observational values of N2 and Ar. As each water mass had a significantly different value of B even with an error of 20%, it is possible to use it as an index of sea surface state for when each water mass is produced in the sea surface mixed layer. Moreover, based on our values of B, we estimated preformed dissolved oxygen (DO) (CpreDO, 309–332 μmol/kg) and the saturation state of CpreDO (ΔpreDO, − 7.0 to − 1.2%) in this region. Thus, the difference between CpreDO and DO content in the ocean interior may be a more useful index for biogenic organic decomposition in the ocean field compared to Apparent Oxygen Utilization (AOU). Until now, the estimation of oceanic uptake of anthropogenic CO2 has used AOU as a major parameter. Therefore, it may be necessary to re-evaluate the oceanic uptake of anthropogenic CO2 based on our new concept of B.  相似文献

End wall effect puts an inherent limitation on tank experiments, especially when the problems in a stratified fluid are dealt with. During experiments involving horizontal intrusion along the interface between two homogeneous layers, a curious phenomenon was found, i.e., the tip of the intruding water wedge continues to extend for a short time after supply is stopped, but then it begins to retreat in the cases of relatively high Reynolds numbers. The cause of this retreat of the wedge was investigated and was shown to be attributable to the initial disturbance generated near the mouth of the feeder at the start of water supply which propagates along the interface layer and reflects at the end of the tank as a bulge of the interface layer. The retreat of the intruding wedge would not occur in a sufficiently long tank, and so the cause of the retreat can be considered as one kind of end wall effect in a tank.  相似文献

Further studies on the transport in sea water and accumulation in marine sediment of the radionuclides, released from a nuclear power plant, on Urazoko Bay, Fukui Prefecture were reported.The partition of radionuclides among the particle size fractions of a sediment sample indicated that the accumulation of60Co,137Cs and54Mn in the sediment were dominated substantially by the sorption on the particle surface in sea water, and the patterns of their sorption were considerably similar to each other.In regard to the60Co contamination of marine sediments in an area of about 13 km2 around the nuclear power plant, 60% of the60Co contamination were retained in Urazoko Bay, which occupies only 7% of the bottom surface of the region.It is clear that a part of60Co accumulated in the sediment of Urazoko Bay gradually moved to the outerward.  相似文献

The effect of the earth's rotation on the behavior of heated water discharged from gigantic nuclear power plants was investigated numerically. It is shown that the effect is significant even for the existing scale of discharge. Horizontal spreading of the heated water is suppressed in offshoreward and northward directions (when heated water is discharged in an eastward direction from a westfacing coast in the northern hemisphere), but accelerated in the southward direction, and the shape of the formed warm water region becomes asymmetric. In this paper, several calculations were done using exaggerated Coriolis parameters (f) in order to demonstrate the effect of the earth's rotation. An increase off enhances above effect, but the situation of the inner region of the produced warm water mass is much different from that in the outer region near its margin. The southward expansion of surface isothermal contours in the inner region increases with an increase inf, but those in the outer region do not. This results in an increase of the sharpness of the front which is generated near the southern edge of the warm water region. We have not found simple parameters which describe the temperature and velocity distributions in the warm water mass produced.  相似文献
