The paper examines the quality of Tropical Rainfall Monitoring Mission (TRMM) 3B42 V7 precipitation product to simulate the streamflow using Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model for various rainfall intensities over the Himalayan region. The SWAT model has been set up for Gandak River Basin with 41 sub-basins and 420 HRUs. Five stream gauge locations are used to simulate the streamflow for a time span of 10 years (2000–2010). Daily streamflow for the simulation period is collected from Central Water Commission (CWC), India and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Nepal. The simulation results are found good in terms of Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency \((\hbox {NSE}) {>}0.65\), coefficient of determination \((R^{2}) {>}0.67\) and Percentage Bias \(\hbox {(PBIAS)}{<}15\%\), at each stream gauge sites. Thereafter, we have calculated the PBIAS and RMSE-observations standard deviation ratio (RSR) statistics between TRMM simulated and observed streamflow for various rainfall intensity classes, viz., light (\({<}7.5 \, \hbox {mm}/\hbox {d}\)), moderate (7.5 to 35.4 mm/d), heavy (35.5 to 124.4 mm/d) and extremely heavy (\({>}124.4 \, \hbox {mm}/\hbox {d}\)). The PBIAS and RSR show that TRMM simulated streamflow is suitable for moderate to heavy rainfall intensities. However, it does not perform well for light- and extremely-heavy rainfall intensities. The finding of the present work is useful for the problems related to water resources management, irrigation planning and hazard analysis over the Himalayan regions. 相似文献

The Urban Seismic Risk index (USRi) published in a previous article (Carreño et al., Nat Hazards 40:137–172, 2007) is a composite indicator that measures risk from an integrated perspective and guides decision-making for identifying the main interdisciplinary factors of vulnerability to be reduced or intervened. The first step of the method is the evaluation of the potential physical damage (hard approach) as a result of the convolution of the seismic hazard with the physical vulnerability of buildings and infrastructure. Subsequently, a set of social context conditions that aggravate the physical effects is also considered (soft approach). According to this procedure, the physical risk index is evaluated for each unit of analysis from existing loss scenarios, whereas the total risk index is obtained by multiplying the former index by an impact factor using an aggravating coefficient, based on variables associated with the socio-economic conditions of each unit of analysis. The USRi has been developed using the underlying holistic and multi-hazard approach of the Urban Risk Index framework proposed for the evaluation of disaster risk in different megacities worldwide. This article presents the sensitivity analysis of the index to different parameters such as input data, weights and transformation functions used for the scaling or normalization of variables. This analysis has been performed using the Monte Carlo simulation to validate the robustness of this composite indicator, understanding as robustness how the cities maintain the ranking as well as predefined risk level ranges, when compared with the deterministic results of risk. On the basis of the petrographic characteristics, rock assemblages, petrochemistry, REEs, trace elements and geotectonic settings, the authors described the characteristics of continental marginal arc-volcanic rocks in the Late Permian-Early Triassic (P2-T1) volcanic rocks distributed on the eastern side of the ocean-ridge/oceanic island basalts in the Chiang Mai belt. The volcanic rock assemblage is basaltic andesite-andesite-rhyolite. The volcanic series is dominated by the calc-alkaline series, with the tholeitic series coming next. The chemical composition of the volcanic rocks is characterized by high Al2O3; the REE distribution patterns are of the LREE-enrichment rightward incline type; the large cation elements are highly enriched, and the volcanic rocks are generally enriched in U and Th and depleted in Ti, Cr and P. The petrochemical plot falls within the field of island-arc volcanic rocks, in consistency with the projected points of continental marginal arc-volcanic rocks in the Lancangjiang belt. These continental mar-ginal arc-volcanic rocks, together with ocean-ridge/oceanic island-type volcanic rocks in the Chiang Mai belt, con-stitute the ocean-ridge volcanic rock-arc magmatic rock belts distributed in pairs, indicative of eastward subduction of the oceanic crust in the Chiang Mai belt. Ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid (EDTA) has been proven to be an efficient soil washing liquid to remove metal contaminants from soils. However, EDTA may cause secondary pollution due to its low biodegradability if it is not recycled or destroyed in the washing process. Thus, it is necessary to recycle and recover EDTA for sustainable use. In this paper, the extracting performance of fresh EDTA was firstly studied as a function of EDTA concentration, liquid/sediment (L/S) ratio and pH of the solution, and also extraction time. Then sodium tetraethylenepentamine-multi dithiocarbamate (TEPA-DTC), a heavy metals capturing agent, was synthesized on the base of the research of LIU-Lihua. Compared with Na2S and DDTC, TEPA-DTC shows strong chelating capacity, because it has functional groups of dithiocarbamate that could strongly chelate heavy metals and capture metal ions from Me-EDTA to form precipitates, allowing us to reclaim the EDTA during the process of soil washing. Three divalent heavy metals were investigated (Pb, Cd, and Cu). These three metals could almost precipitate completely with TEPA-DTC under the dosage of 300 mg/l, and EDTA was regenerated. Siliceous drift pumice was collected from a total of 40 beaches around the main island of New Caledonia, Southwest Pacific, in order to determine its provenance. New Caledonia is enclosed by a barrier reef lagoon whose 2008 designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site brought attention to the environmental degradation caused by a century of open cast nickel mining. The frequent, voluminous pumice eruptions in the Southwest Pacific provide ample source material that is somewhat durable, highly transportable in water, and easy to collect and analyze. Geochemical and mineralogical analyses were used to identify the source of the pumice in order to map the transport vector across the open ocean and into the lagoon. Drift pumice was sampled during 2008 and 2010. The mineral assemblage of the pumice was consistently calcic plagioclase, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, and opaque minerals. All of the pumice was of fairly uniform geochemistry: low in mafic elements, low in alkalis, with LILE enriched compared to HFSE, and negative Eu, Ti, and Zr anomalies. The pumice is predominately dacitic and tholeiitic. This geochemical signature was consistent with published data from the Tonga arc, which is further supported by the mineralogy. With the exception of two samples (which probably came from either the Kermadec arc or Vanuatu) all of the pumice comes from the Tonga arc. The samples from 2008 are consistent with pumice erupted from Metis Shoal in 2006, and the majority of 2010 samples are consistent with pumice erupted from an unnamed volcano (0403-091) that erupted in 2001. 相似文献

In this paper AlGaInP light emitting diodes with different types of electrodes: Au/Zn/Au-ITO Au/Ti-ITO Au/Ge/Ni-ITO and Au-ITO are fabricated. The photoelectricity properties of those LEDs are studied. The results show that the Au/Zn/Au electrode greatly improves the performance of LEDs compared with the other electrodes. Because the Au/Zn/Au electrode not only forms a good Ohmic contact with indium tin oxide (ITO), but also reduces the specific contact resistances between ITO and GaP, which are 1.273×10-6 Ω · cm2 and 1.743×10-3 Ω ·cm2 between Au/Zn/Au-ITO and ITO-GaP respectively. Furthermore, the textured Zn/Au-ITO/Zn electrode is designed to improve the performances of LEDs, reduce the forward-voltage of the LED from 1.93 to 1.88 V, and increase the luminous intensity of the LEDs from 126 to 134 mcd when driven at 20 mA. 相似文献

The Tirek gold deposit hosted in the Archean shield is one of the richest sources of mined gold for Algeria. The deposit is controlled by the East Ouzzal shear zone (EOSZ), a transcurrent N–S lithospheric fault. The EOSZ is a late Pan-African dextral-ductile shear zone separating two contrasting Precambrian domains: the Archean In Ouzzal block to the west (Orthogenesis with subordinate metasediments reworked and granulitized during the ca. 2 Ga Eburnean event) and a middle Proterozoic block to the east involved in the ca. 600 Ma Pan-African event. The auriferous quartz veins are mainly oriented in two directions, N–S veins hosted in mylonitic rocks and NE–SW veins hosted in gabbroic or gneissic bands. The NE–SW veins contain the richest ore. Gold ore is found in a system of veins and lenticular quartz veinlets arranged in anastomosing networks. The hydrothermal alteration associated with these veins is characteristically a carbonate-sericite-albite-pyrite assemblage. Gold is the main metal of economic importance; it is disseminated in the quartz as grains or fibers along microcracks and as microscopic grains in the host rocks. Microthermometric results and Raman laser data from fluid inclusions demonstrate that the ore-forming fluids contained H2O-CO2±CH4 and were low salinity. Homogenization temperatures are commonly 250–310 °C. In the Tirek deposit, the role of the shear zone that hosts the mineralization was to drain the hydrothermal fluid. Interactions between the fluid and the mafic host rocks and CO2 also contributed to the formation of the hydrothermal gold deposit at Tirek. 相似文献

Flaring of associated gas from oil exploitation has several consequences on the environment. This study explores the spatial
variability effects of gas flaring on the growth and development of cassava (Manihot esculenta), waterleaf (Talinum triangulare), and pepper (Piper spp.) crops commonly cultivated in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. Data was collected on soil and atmospheric temperature and moisture
at a 20-m interval, starting at 40 m from the flare point to a distance of 140 m. Lengths and widths of crop leaves, height
of crop plants and cassava yields were measured at the specified distances. The amino acid, ascorbic acid, starch, and sugar
constituents of the cassava yields were determined. The results suggest that a spatial gradient exists in the effects of gas
flares on crop development. Retardation in crop development manifests in decreased dimensions of leaf lengths and widths of
cassava and pepper crops closer to the gas flare point. Statistical analysis also confirms that cassava yields are higher
at locations further away from the flare point. In addition, the amount of starch and ascorbic acid in cassava decreased when
the plant is grown closer to the gas flare. High temperatures around the gas flare appear to be the most likely cause of this
retardation. The waterleaf crop, on the other hand, appears to thrive better around the gas flare point. 相似文献

Intracrystal microtextures formed by a process of mutual replacement in alkali feldspars record fluid–rock reactions that
have affected large volumes of the Earth’s crust. Regular, ≤1 μm-scale ‘strain-controlled’ perthitic microtextures coarsen,
by up to 103, by a dissolution–reprecipitation process, producing microporous patch or vein perthites on scales >100 μm. We have developed
earlier studies of such reactions in alkali feldspar cm-scale primocrysts in layered syenites from the Klokken intrusion,
South Greenland. We present new hyperspectral CL, SEM images, and laser ICPMS analytical data, and discuss the mechanism of
such replacement reactions. The feldspars grew as homogeneous sodic sanidines which unmixed and ordered by volume diffusion
during cooling into the microcline field at ~450°C, giving regular, fully coherent ‘braid’ cryptoperthite. At ≤450°C the crystals
reacted with a circulating post-magmatic aqueous fluid. The braid perthite behaved as a single reactant ‘phase’ which was
replaced by two product phases, incoherent subgrains of low albite and microcline, with micropores at their boundaries. The
driving force for the reactions was coherency strain energy, which was greater than the surface energy in the subgrain mosaic.
The external euhedral crystal shapes and bulk major element composition of the primocrysts were unchanged but they became
largely pseudomorphs composed of subgrains usually with the ‘pericline’ and ‘adularia’ habits (dominant {110} and subordinate
{010} morphology) characteristic of low T growth. The subgrains have an epitactic relationship with parent braid perthite. Individual subgrains show oscillatory zoning
in CL intensity, mainly at blue wavelengths, which correlates with tetrahedral Ti. Regular zoning is sometimes truncated by
irregular, discordant surfaces suggesting dissolution, followed by resumption of growth giving regular zoning. Zones can be
traced through touching subgrains, of both albite and microcline, for distances up to ~500 μm. At ≤340°C, the microcline subgrains
underwent a third stage of unmixing to give straight lamellar film perthites with periodicities of ~1 μm, which with further
cooling became semicoherent by the development of spaced misfit dislocations. Sub-grain growth occurred in fluid films that
advanced through the elastically strained braid perthite crystals, which dissolved irreversibly. Braid perthite was more soluble
than the strain-free subgrain mosaics which precipitated from the supersaturated solution. Some volumes of braid texture have
sharp surfaces that suggest rapid dissolution along planes with low surface energies. Others have complex, diffuse boundaries
that indicate a phase of coherent lamellar straightening by volume diffusion in response to strain relief close to a slowly
advancing interface. Nucleation of strain-free subgrains was the overall rate-limiting step. To minimise surface energy subgrains
grew with low energy morphologies and coarsened by grain growth, in fluid films whose trace element load (reflected in the
oscillatory zoning) was dictated by the competitive advance of subgrains over a range of a few tens of mm. The cross-cutting
dissolution surfaces suggest influxes of fresh fluid. Removal of feldspar to give 2 vol% porosity would require a feldspar:fluid
ratio of ~1:26 (by wt). The late reversion to strain-controlled exsolution in microcline subgrains is consistent with loss
of fluid above 340°C following depressurization of the intrusion. A second paper (Part II) describes trace element partitioning
between the albite and microcline subgrains, and discusses the potential of trace elements as a low-T geothermometer.
This paper and the Part II are dedicated in memory of J.V. Smith and W.L. Brown, both of whom died in 2007, in acknowledgement

Salt marshes are an important transition zone between terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and in their natural state, they
often function to cycle or trap terrestrially derived nutrients and organic matter. Many US salt marshes were ditched during
the twentieth century, potentially altering their functionality. The goal of this 4-year study was to assess the impact of
water from ditches within seven salt marshes on estuarine water quality and plankton communities within four estuaries on
Long Island, NY, USA. We found that concentrations of inorganic nutrients (ammonium, phosphate), dissolved and particulate
organic nitrogen and carbon (POC, PON, DOC, DON), and total coliform bacteria were significantly enriched in salt marsh ditches
compared to the estuaries they discharged into. In addition, concentrations of ammonium and DON became more enriched in ditches
as tidal levels decreased, suggesting these constituents were generated in situ. Quantification of nitrogen sources in Flanders
Bay, NY, suggested salt marsh ditches could represent a substantial source of N to this estuary during summer months. Experimental
incubations demonstrated that water from salt marsh ditches was capable of significantly enhancing the growth of multiple
classes of phytoplankton, with large diatoms and dinoflagellates displaying the most dramatic increases in growth. Experiments
further demonstrated that salt marsh ditchwater was capable of significantly enhancing pelagic respiration rates, suggesting
discharge from ditches could influence estuarine oxygen consumption. In summary, this study demonstrates that tidal draining
of salt marsh ditches is capable of degrading multiple aspects of estuarine water quality. 相似文献
