In the eastern Sierras Pampeanas, Central Argentina, tourmalinites and coticules are found in close association with stratabound scheelite deposits in metamorphic terranes. In Sierra Grande (Agua de Ramón and Ambul districts) and Sierra de Altautina, tourmalinites are associated with stratabound scheelite deposits related to orthoamphibolites. In the Pampa del Tamboreo area, tourmalinites are located in biotite schists stratigraphically related to acid to intermediate metavolcanic rocks and scheelite-bearing quartzites. The mineral chemistry and boron isotopic compositions of tourmalinite-hosted and vein-hosted tourmalines are investigated. Overall, the tourmalines belong to the dravite-schorl series and are generally aluminous; Fe/(Fe+Mg) ranges from 0.33 to 0.85, Al/(Al+Fe+Mg) from 0.66 to 0.76 and the amount of X-site vacancy (0.12–0.48) indicates significant foitite components. Their boron isotopic compositions (δ11B) are from −24.0‰ to−15.0‰.Similar mineral chemistries and boron isotopic values for tourmaline in tourmalinites related to stratabound scheelite mineralisation and in tungsten-bearing quartz veins suggest a common source for the boron and probably the tungsten. The field, chemical and isotopic relationships are consistent with tungsten and boron in quartz-vein deposits being remobilised from stratabound scheelite and tourmalinite, dominantly by liquid-state transfer associated with regional shear zones. Tungsten and boron in the original sedimentary sequence (now meta-exhalites) are ascribed to volcanogenic exhalations. 相似文献
A fossil geothermal area is hosted by the Carboniferous, Permian and Bunter sandstones of the Offenburg intramontane trough in the central Black Forest. The hydrothermal alteration is identified on the basis of newly formed sericites, which appear as pseudomorphs after feldspar and filling of pore spaces. According to K–Ar dating of sericite, serititization occurred about 145 Ma ago (Jurassic). On the basis of 18O analyses of sericite, sericite composition and vitrinite reflectance, the hydrothermal fluids had temperatures of 150–210 °C. Because their electrolyte content was low, these fluids are assumed to have derived from meteoric water. A second pulse of electrolyte-rich hydrothermal fluids resulted in quartz overgrowths. Fluid mobilization seems to be linked to the disintegration of Pangaea and to reactivated fault systems extending from the crystalline basement into the intramontane sediments. 相似文献
The Bandombaai Complex (southern Kaoko Belt, Namibia) consists of three main intrusive rock types including metaluminous hornblende- and sphene-bearing quartz diorites, allanite-bearing granodiorites and granites, and peraluminous garnet- and muscovite-bearing leucogranites. Intrusion of the quartz diorites is constrained by a U–Pb zircon age of 540±3 Ma.
Quartz diorites, granodiorites and granites display heterogeneous initial Nd- and O isotope compositions (Nd (540 Ma)=−6.3 to −19.8; δ18O=9.0–11.6‰) but rather low and uniform initial Sr isotope compositions (87Sr/86Srinitial=0.70794–0.70982). Two leucogranites and one aplite have higher initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.70828–0.71559), but similar initial Nd (−11.9 to −15.8) and oxygen isotope values (10.5–12.9‰). The geochemical and isotopic characteristics of the Bandombaai Complex are distinct from other granitoids of the Kaoko Belt and the Central Zone of the Damara orogen. Our study suggests that the quartz diorites of the Bandombaai Complex are generated by melting of heterogeneous mafic lower crust. Based on a comparison with results from amphibolite-dehydration melting experiments, a lower crustal garnet- and amphibole-bearing metabasalt, probably enriched in K2O, is a likely source rock for the quartz diorites. The granodiorites/granites show low Rb/Sr (<0.6) ratios and are probably generated by partial melting of meta-igneous (intermediate) lower crustal sources by amphibole-dehydration melting. Most of the leucogranites display higher Rb/Sr ratios (>1) and are most likely generated by biotite-dehydration melting of heterogeneous felsic lower crust. All segments of the lower crust underwent partial melting during the Pan-African orogeny at a time (540 Ma) when the middle crust of the central Damara orogen also underwent high T, medium P regional metamorphism and melting. Geochemical and isotope data from the Bandombaai Complex suggest that the Pan-African orogeny in this part of the orogen was not a major crust-forming episode. Instead, even the most primitive rock types of the region, the quartz diorites, represent recycled lower crustal material. 相似文献
The easternmost stratovolcano along the Central American arc is El Valle volcano, Panama. Several andesitic and dacitic lava
flows, which range in age 5–10 Ma, are termed the old group. After a long period of quiescence (approximately 3.4 Ma), volcanic
activity resumed approximately 1.55 Ma with the emplacement of dacitic domes and the deposition of dacitic pyroclastic flows
0.9–0.2 Ma. These are referred to as the young group. All of the samples analyzed are calc-alkaline andesites and dacites.
The mineralogy of the two groups is distinct; two pyroxenes occur in the old-group rocks but are commonly absent in the young
group. In contrast, amphibole has been found only in the young-group samples. Several disequilibrium features have been observed
in the minerals (e.g., oscillatory zoning within clinopyroxenes). These disequilibrium textures appear to be more prevalent
among the old- as compared with the young-group samples and are most likely the result of magma-mixing, assimilation, and/or
polybaric crystallization. Mass-balance fractionation models for major and trace elements were successful in relating samples
from the old group but failed to show a relationship among the young-group rocks or between the old- and young-group volcanics.
We believe that the old-group volcanics were derived through differentiation processes from basaltic magmas generated within
the mantlewedge. The young group, however, does not appear to be related to more primitive magmas by differentiation. The
young-group samples cannot be related by fractionation including realistic amounts of amphibole. Distinctive geochemical features
of the young group, including La/Yb ratios〉15, Yb〈1, Sr/Y〉150, and Y〈6, suggest that these rocks were derived from the partial
melting of the subducted lithosphere. These characteristics can be explained by the partial melting of a source with residual
garnet and amphibole. Dacitic material with the geochemical characteristics of subducted-lithosphere melting is generated
apparently only where relatively hot crust is subducted, based on recent work. The young dacite-genesis at El Valle volcano
is related to the subduction of relatively hot lithosphere. 相似文献
Observations of residual exchange flows at the entrance to four subtropical estuaries, two of them semiarid, indicate that
these flows are mainly tidally driven, as they compare favorably with theoretical patterns of tidal residual flows. In every
estuary examined, the tidal behavior was that of a standing or near-standing wave, i.e., tidal elevation and tidal currents
were nearly in quadrature. The pattern of exchange flow that persisted at every estuary exhibited inflow in the channel and
outflow over the shoals. Curiously, but also fortuitously, this pattern coincides with the exchange pattern driven by density
gradients in other estuaries. The tidal stresses and the residual elevation slopes should be the dominant mechanisms that
drive such tidal residual pattern because the Stokes transport mechanism is negligible for standing or near-standing waves.
Time series measurements from the semiarid estuaries showed fortnightly modulation of the residual flow by tidal forcing in
such a way that the strongest net exchange flows developed with the largest tidal distortions, i.e., during spring tides.
This modulation is opposite to the modulation that typically results in temperate estuaries, where the strongest net exchange
flows tend to develop during neap tides. The fortnightly modulation on tidal residual currents could be inferred from previous
theoretical results because residual currents arise from tidal distortions but is made explicit in this study. The findings
advanced herein should allow the drawing of generalities about exchange flow patterns in subtropical estuaries where residual
flows are mainly driven by tides. 相似文献
The origin of the hypersaline fluids (magmatic or basinal brine?), associated with iron oxide (Cu–U–Au–REE) deposits, is controversial. We report the first chlorine and strontium isotope data combined with Cl/Br ratios of fluid inclusions from selected iron oxide–copper–gold (IOCG) deposits (Candelaria, Raúl–Condestable, Sossego), a deposit considered to represent a magmatic end member of the IOCG class of deposit (Gameleira), and a magnetite–apatite deposit (El Romeral) from South America. Our data indicate mixing of a high δ37Cl magmatic fluid with near 0‰ δ37Cl basinal brines in the Candelaria, Raúl–Condestable, and Sossego IOCG deposits and leaching of a few weight percent of evaporites by magmatic-hydrothermal (?) fluids at Gameleira and El Romeral. The Sr isotopic composition of the inclusion fluids of Candelaria, Raúl–Condestable, and El Romeral confirms the presence of a non-magmatic fluid component in these deposits. The heavy chlorine isotope signatures of fluids from the IOCG deposits (Candelaria, Raúl–Condestable, Sossego), reflecting the magmatic-hydrothermal component of these fluids, contrast with the near 0‰ δ37Cl values of porphyry copper fluids known from the literature. The heavy chlorine isotope compositions of fluids of the investigated IOCG deposits may indicate a prevailing mantle Cl component in contrast to porphyry copper fluids, an argument also supported by Os isotopes, or could result from differential Cl isotope fractionation processes (e.g. phase separation) in fluids of IOCG and porphyry Cu deposits. 相似文献
Pb-evaporation zircon analyses coupled with a detailed cathodoluminescence (CL) study on the complete series of granitoids from the northern Oberpfalz, NE Bavaria, provide new evidence for the commencement and timing of late-Variscan magmatism. All granitoids analysed in this study were dated before by Rb-Sr and/or K-Ar methods. Investigated samples comprise medium-grained, I-type dioritic rocks (redwitzites), I/S-type granites (Leuchtenberg, Marktredwitz (G1), Zainhammer) and S-type granites (Falkenberg, Liebenstein, Mitterteich, Friedenfels, Steinwald, Flossenbürg, Bärnau). The zircon evaporation technique reveals three groups of 207Pb/206Pb ages which are interpreted to represent magmatic crystallisation: (1) ages of 324-321 Ma are found in all analysed redwitzites and in almost all I/S-type granites; (2) the granites of Falkenberg and Liebenstein yield ages of ~315 Ma; (3) ages between 312 and 310 Ma are recorded in the Mitterteich, Friedenfels, Steinwald and Flossenbürg granites. Titanite crystals from different redwitzite bodies yield conventional U-Pb ages of 325-322 Ma, identical to the Pb-evaporation zircon data of these rocks. The S-type granites of groups 2 and 3 contain zircons with relict cores but only a small number of them yield older ages, indicating that some of the cores must have lost their radiogenic Pb. From the geochronological data, we infer that metamorphic conditions of the Variscan crust produced different granite types at different times. The data support a model involving an early period of mantle-related magmatism which postdates the final convergence stage of the Variscan orogen. This magmatic activity was at the same time as the thermal peak of regional metamorphism and is followed by a late period of crustal anatexis, which is probably related to post-collisional extension of the thickened Variscan crust. 相似文献
