Eleven-year long time series of monthly beach profile surveys and hourly incident wave conditions are analyzed for a macrotidal Low Tide Terrace beach. The lower intertidal zone of the beach has a pluriannual cycle, whereas the upper beach profile has a predominantly seasonal cycle. An equilibrium model is applied to study the variation of the contour elevation positions in the intertidal zone as a function of the wave energy, wave power, and water level. When forcing the model with wave energy, the predictive ability of the equilibrium model is around 60% in the upper intertidal zone but decreases to 40% in the lower intertidal zone. Using wave power increases the predictive ability up to 70% in both the upper and lower intertidal zones. However, changes around the inflection point are not well predicted. The equilibrium model is then extended to take into account the effects of the tide level. The initial results do not show an increase in the predictive capacity of the model, but do allow the model free parameters to represent more accurately the values expected in a macrotidal environment. This allows comparing the empirical model calibration in different tidal environment. The interpretation of the model free parameter variation across the intertidal zone highlights the behavior of the different zones along the intertidal beach profile. This contributes to a global interpretation of the four model parameters for beaches with different tidal ranges, and therefore to a global model applicable at a wide variety sites. 相似文献

The estimation of long-term sea level variability is of primary importance for a climate change assessment. Despite the value of the subject, no scientific consensus has yet been reached on the existing acceleration in observed values. The existence of this acceleration is crucial for coastal protection planning purposes. The absence of the acceleration would enhance the debate on the general validity of current future projections. Methodologically, the evaluation of the acceleration is a controversial and still open discussion, reported in a number of review articles, which illustrate the state-of-art in the field of sea level research. In the present paper, the well-proven direct scaling analysis approach is proposed in order to describe the long-term sea level variability at 12 worldwide-selected tide gauge stations. For each of the stations, it has been shown that the long-term sea level variability exhibits a trimodal scaling behaviour, which can be modelled by a power law with three different pairs of shape and scale parameters. Compared to alternative methods in literature, which take into account multiple correlated factors, this simple method allows to reduce the uncertainties on the sea level rise parameters estimation. 相似文献

Trajectories and hydrological data from two Argo floats indicate that warm and salty water at 200–300-m depths was ejected from the coast of Oman, near Ras al Hamra, in spring 2008, 2011, and 2012. This warm and salty water, Persian Gulf Water (PGW), once ejected from the coast, recirculated cyclonically in the western Sea of Oman, but also flowed eastward along the Iranian and Pakistani coasts. There, it was expelled seaward by mesoscale eddies as shown by other float data. Seasonal maps of salinity were computed from all available Argo floats; they showed that, in spring, PGW is present in the middle and north of the Sea of Oman, contrary to fall, when the salinity maxima lie southeast of Ras al Hadd. The ejection of PGW from Ras al Hamra is related here to the influence of a mesoscale dipolar eddy which often appears near this cape in spring. The time-averaged and empirical orthogonal functions of altimetric maps over 11 years for this season confirm the frequent presence and the persistence of this feature. From surface currents and hydrology, deep currents were computed via thermal wind balance, and the associated shear and strain fields were obtained. This deformation field is intense near Ras al Hamra, with an offshore direction. This flow structure associated with the mesoscale dipole explains PGW ejection from the coast. This observation suggests that PGW distribution in the Northern Arabian Sea can be strongly influenced by seasonal mesoscale eddies. 相似文献

Geodynamic aspects of the development of offshore oil and gas deposits: Case study of Barents region
Geodynamic aspects of the development of offshore deposits in the Russian sector of Barents region are considered. The main
technogenic geohazards at oil hydrocarbon extraction are shown to be land subsidence and earthquakes. A concept of studying
geodynamic manifestations is substantiated. This concept is based on the evolution of oil-and-gas-producing enterprise with
appropriate portion of geological environment, regarded as a complex open natural-engineering system. The geodynamic situation
at the Shtokman gas-condensate field was simulated using a mathematical model. The model showed some regularities in the deformation
of the fluid-bearing massif because of gas extraction, including the up to 30% volumetric compaction of the production strata,
resulting in a regression deflection (subsidence) of seabed and considerable subhorizontal deformations and displacements
of bottom rock beds. The specific features of gas pipeline laying from the Shtokman field through Murmansk province are discussed,
and the structure of geodynamic monitoring is proposed. Substantiation is given to the need to carry out special geodynamic
studies in the Barents region with the aim to ensure operation geosafety and stability of structures of oil-and-gas facilities

The diurnal variations in the amplitude and parameters of polarization ellipses of the first Schumann resonance according
to three magnetic field components, observed on December 1–10, 2007, at the Barentsburg and Lovozero observatories, have been
studied. Ellipses have been constructed in the (H, D) and (H, Z) planes. The value of the minor axis, inclination of the major axis, ellipticity, and the rotation direction have been estimated.
The vertical magnetic component of the Schumann resonance is three to four times as small as the horizontal component. The
difference in the diurnal variations in the ellipse parameters between both observatories has been found. The effect can be
caused by a difference in the Earth’s conductivity in the vicinity of the observatories and by conductivity anisotropy. The
major axis inclination and ellipticity have semidiurnal components. The polarization vector mostly rotates from D to H in the horizontal plane and from Z to H in the vertical plane at both stations. 相似文献
