The possibility of contactless remote estimation of the temperature in the Earth’s interior from surface magnetotelluric (MT) measurements is examined. The neuronet analysis of MT and temperature measurements in the Bishkek geodynamic research area (the Northern Tien Shan) showed that a contactless electromagnetic geothermometer can in principle be realized. An optimal method including MT measurements and treatment of available thermograms is developed. The method minimizes uncertainties of the remote temperature estimation. The use of six to eight thermograms for calibration of electromagnetic data is shown to provide a 12% relative error of prediction, and a priori geological information available for the region under study can reduce this error. Areas of practical application of a contactless electromagnetic geothermometer are outlined.  相似文献

This paper provides a review of geological, geophysical, and geochemical studies for three geothermal zones of Hengill Volcano, Iceland: Nesjavellir, Hellisheidi, and Hveragerdi. We discuss the relationships between global tectonics and high-temperature geothermal systems in Iceland. The bulk of this review is devoted to studies of the physical, geochemical, and mineralogic parameters for the three areas. A separate discussion concerns surface phenomena, as well as the origin of thermal water. This review covers studies of the main aquifer complexes: Miocene/Lower Pliocene plateau basalts, Upper Pliocene/Pleistocene lavas and volcanoclastics involving tillite horizons, an aquifer complex of Holocene lava sheets as thick as 1 km, and an aquifer complex of Upper Pleistocene/Holocene alluvial eolian deposits and formations of bottom moraines. We consider a conceptual model of geothermal reservoirs characteristic for the Hengill geothermal fields.  相似文献

Two large groups of methods used to transform electromagnetic fields are discussed. The first of them includes methods based on the linear relations between the components of the MT-fields measured at a single or several points at the earth's surface. In this context special attention is paid to the consideration of impedance transformations, apparent resistivity and inductive operators, most frequently used in interpretation.The second group of methods concerns integral transformations of data. Firstly techniques are considered which are used for the division of the EM-fields into external and internal, normal and anomalous, surface and deep parts. Finally electromagnetic analogs of seismic methods are mentioned briefly.All transformations discussed are accompanied by examples of their use in data interpretation.  相似文献

Electromagnetic (EM) data provide a substantial contribution to the geophysical mapping and monitoring of geothermal reservoirs. This paper presents an up-to-date picture of the achievements of EM methods for geothermal exploration as they have emerged over the last few years. It has been proved that EM sounding of geothermal zones and distant monitoring macro-parameters of the reservoirs, fluid-filled faults and other elements of the geothermal system are possible provided that modern 3-D inversion is used along with techniques that reduce the effects of industrial and geological noise. In addition, geological and petrophysical data also need to be included in the analysis.  相似文献

A method for numerical modeling of quasi-stationary electromagnetic fields in axially symmetric media is proposed. It is based on the direct finite-element method and the use of special basis functions. Assuming cylindrical coordinates r, φ, z, the three-dimensional solution is presented as a superposition of fields with the azimuthal dependence exp(inφ). For each case this results in a system of two equations of elliptical type in two scalar functions in the (r, z) plane.

The discretization leads to the conservative nine-points difference scheme. The system of linear equations is solved by means of the LU-decomposition technique, the band structure of the matrix being taken into account.

The program is tested using analytical results (DC asymptote) for a near-surface inhomogeneity. Comparison also is made with 2D results (H-polarization) for the model of a local well conducting inclusion in a three-layered Earth.  相似文献

High-density array MT soundings of the crust in the seismically active northern Tien Shan were performed using Phoenix MTU-5 stations in the Bishkek Geodynamic Polygon, at the junction of the Chu basin and the Kyrgyz Range. The MT transfer functions were determined to an accuracy of 1–2% (amplitude) and about 0.5–0.8 deg (phase) in most of 145 soundings. Preliminary analysis of the collected data aimed at estimating the geoelectrical dimensionality. The Bahr decomposition analysis indicated the presence of local 3D structures in the crust of the area superposed on the regional 2D structure.  相似文献

The spatial models describing the physico-mechanical properties of the rocks within the seismically active segment of the Altai–Sayan region are constructed from the ground-based geophysical data. The comparative analysis of their probability density functions at the nodes of the spatial grid covering the studied domain and at the hypocenters of the previous earthquakes shows that the bulk and shear moduli are the most efficient markers of the weakened crustal zones, which are prone to earthquakes. The algorithm for constraining the potential earthquake sources based on the spatial distributions of the elastic moduli of the rocks is suggested. When applied to the Taellin segment of the Altai–Sayan region, this algorithm has localized four echelons of the potential source zones of earthquakes at different depths in the crust. The horizontal positions of two of these zones were delineated by the previous studies based on the ground observations of seismicity, whereas the other two zones have been identified by the suggested algorithm for the first time.  相似文献

Feasibility of recovering the magma chamber’s parameters by 3D Bayesian statistical inversion of magnetotelluric data is estimated for the simplified conductivity model of the Vesuvios volcano. The results indicate that in the lack of prior information and data, the most efficient approach may consist in successive estimation of the geometry and the depth of the anomaly followed by estimation of the electric conductivity distribution in it. The horizontal boundaries of the target could be outlined by the high gradients of the impedance determinant phase pseudosections determined by the upward analytical continuation of the anomalous electromagnetic fields from the relief surface to the artificial reference plane located above the summit of the volcano. The vertical boundaries and the target extension as well as the electric conductivity could be estimated successively by means of 3D Bayesian statistical inversion of the collected magnetotelluric data carried out in the domain delimited by the estimated horizontal boundaries.  相似文献

The applicability of the Bayesian inversion of audiomagnetotelluric data to the electromagnetic mapping of groundwater reservoirs is examined. A model example is used to demonstrate that both the reservoirs and their salinity zones can be mapped using measurements of magnetotelluric fields in the audio frequency range.  相似文献
