This paper presents an elasto‐plastic model for non‐linear analyses of cement‐treated sand. Various laboratory tests were systematically carried out to investigate the pre‐peak and post‐peak behaviours of a cement‐treated sand. On the basis of these experimental results, the new model was built within the framework of a relatively simple elasto‐plastic theory. Two failure criteria are employed to express tensile and shear failure characteristics observed in the experimental results of the cement‐treated sand. The proposed model can describe strain‐hardening and strain‐softening responses under both failure modes. In the strain‐softening rules, the smeared crack concept is used, and a characteristic length is considered to avoid the issue of mesh‐size dependency. Since the failure criterion and strain‐hardening/softening rules are based on the experimental evidences, the model is relatively easy to understand and the parameters used in the model have clear physical meaning. The proposed model was applied to simulate the behaviour of cement‐treated sand in various laboratory tests, allowing for a reasonable comprehensive evaluation. Within the framework of the quasi-linear approximation, the hybrid diffusion process due to the bounce-drift resonance interaction between trapped particles and low-frequency field fluctuations is examined. The diffusion coefficients obtained, which are valid for particles with large pitch angles, cover the previous results in a few limiting cases. In general, the diffusion coefficients depend strongly on the spatial structure of the power spectrum along field lines, as well as the frequency dependence. The relative importance of the radial diffusion and field-aligned acceleration for ringcurrent particles is discussed. It is shown that the field-aligned acceleration exceeds the inward penetration of the particles near the plasmapause.  相似文献

Approximately 4000 people were killed due to collapse of buildings in downtown Adapazari during the 1999 Izmit, Turkey earthquake (Mw = 7.4). The downtown is located on a deep sedimentary basin, so-called Adapazari basin. We study site effects of the Adapazari basin based on strong- and weak-motion data obtained by a temporary array observation deployed in and around the Adapazari basin after the earthquake. Four moderate-size aftershocks (M4.6–M5.8) are selected in our study. We evaluate the S-wave amplifications in the basin by using the traditional spectral ratio method. The spectral ratios show that the S waves are considerably amplified in the frequency range of 0.5 to about 5 Hz at the basin sites, but are apparently de-amplified at frequencies higher than about 10 Hz. We make a quantitative interpretation of the empirical amplifications based on the S-wave velocity structures at the stiff-soil reference site as well as at the basin sites; these structures were estimated by the microtremor array measurements. Through the interpretation, we confirm that the amplifications at low frequencies are attributed to the thick sedimentary layers in the Adapazari basin and that the apparent de-amplifications at high frequencies are partly due to the reference site response. In addition to the considerable S-wave amplifications, the basin site records show long-period (about 2 sec) later phases after the S-wave arrival; these later phases are basin-transduced surface waves that are originated from the source and transmitted into the basin. The predominant period of these waves apparently depends on the earthquake magnitude. We conclude that heavy damage in downtown Adapazari during the 1999 Izmit earthquake was caused not only by strongly amplified S-waves but also by long-period basin surface waves of long duration.  相似文献

A procedure of computing the radiance and the polarization parameters of radiation diffusely reflected and transmitted by an inhomogeneous, plane-parallel terrestrial atmosphere bounded by a ruffled ocean surface is discussed with the aid of the adding method. If the atmosphere and the ocean are simulated by a number of homogeneous sublayers, the matrices of radiation reflected and transmitted diffusely by the atmosphere-ocean system can be expressed in terms of these matrices of sublayers by using only a couple of iterative equations in which the polarity effect of radiation is included. Furthermore, the upwelling radiance and the polarization degree of radiation at the top of the atmosphere can be calculated by using a single iterative equation without requiring the equation for the diffuse transmission matrix of radiation. The ruffled ocean surface can be treated as an interacting interface, where the transmitted radiation from beneath the ocean surface into the atmosphere is also taken into account into the derivation of equations. Finally, sample computations of the upwelling radiance and the polarization degree of radiation from the top of the atmosphere are carried out at the wavelength of 0.60 micron.  相似文献

The heat needed to melt snow over the Tien Shan mountains and Japanese Islands for 10-day period (TDP) was estimated. Melting curves and a map of snowmelt duration were obtained through the long-term data from 79 stations in the Tien Shan mountains and 20 stations in the Japanese Islands. At high elevations in the mountains, about 40% of the snow melts during penultimate 10 days of snow cover. In the Japanese Islands, about 80% of the snow melts during the last 20 days of snow cover. Over the mountains, 0.13×104 MJ m2 year−1 is needed to melt snow in the northern and western Tien Shan where maximum snow accumulation occurred. The volume of air cooled 10 °C by snowmelt amounted to 4.4×106 km3 year−1 over the Tien Shan mountains and 3×106 km3 year−1 over the Japanese Islands. The most significant impact of snowmelt on air temperature was observed at an elevation of 2500 m in the western and northern Tien Shan. Air that was cooled 10 °C could reach an elevation of 2.1 km day−1. Over the Japanese Islands, energy losses from snowmelt amounted to 0.26×1014 MJ year−1 and the maximum occurred over Honshu Island. The heat loss from snowmelt in the Tien Shan mountains and Japanese Islands amounted to about 2/3 of heat loss in the Eurasian continental plains.  相似文献

The respiration rates of copepod larvae and a ciliate (Placus sp.) from a tropical sea were measured with an oxygen electrode method. The general range of body size of these animals was 40–161m (diameter equivalent to a sphere), and the respiration rate measured was 0.00076–0.00176l O2 (animal)–1h–1 (or 2.02–9.05l O2 (mg wet weight)–1h–1) at 25.5–29.2C. There was no marked difference observed between the respiration rates of copepod larvae and the ciliate. The respiration rates obtained here are relatively higher than the rates of other similar sized protozoans found in the literature, but lower than the rate extrapolated from larger planktonic copepods in tropical seas.The present results and other information available on microzooplankton biomass suggest that microzooplankton respiration is of near equal importance to that of net zooplankton in the study of energy flow through tropical, pelagic ecosystems.  相似文献

Geological evidence of severe tsunami inundation has been discovered in northern Japan. In the dune fields of Shimokita, in northernmost Tohoku, we have found two distinctive sand layers that are tsunami deposits. The run-up height of >20 m and inland inundation of at least 1.4 km are notably larger than any known historical case in Japan. The tsunami-genic earthquake that resulted in these deposits is thought to have taken place in the Kuril Forearc-Trench system nearly 700 years ago. The recurrence interval of major tsunamis originating in the Kuril subduction zone is about 400 years. Given that the most recent unusually large earthquake took place in AD 1611 (corresponding to the Keicho earthquake tsunami), the findings presented here increase the potential and hazard for an outsized tsunami striking the Pacific coast of northern Japan.  相似文献

Changes in the timing of phenological events may cause the annual carbon budget of deciduous forests to change. Therefore, one should take such events into account when evaluating the effects of global warming on deciduous forests.
