The Flinton Group is a greenschist to upper amphibolite facies package of metasediments in southeastern Ontario that was metamorphosed during the Ottawan Orogeny. Thermodynamic modeling of metapelitic mineral assemblages suggests an increase in peak conditions of metamorphism across the 40 km wide study area from 3.5 to 7.9 kbar and 540 to 715 °C. Garnet isopleth thermobarometry applied to the cores of compositionally zoned porphyroblasts reveals remarkably similar P-T conditions of initial crystallization at approximately 3.7–4.0 kbar and 512–520 °C, corresponding to a relatively high geothermal gradient of ca. 34–45 °C km?1. It is inferred from modeling and reaction textures that metamorphism was along Barrovian P-T paths. Major and trace element zoning in garnet from one sample records a complex growth history as evidenced by major and trace element zoning and the distribution of xenotime, allanite and monazite inclusions. High-resolution (6 μm) LA-ICP-MS U-Pb geochronology performed on monazite in the rock matrix and included in the outer 150 μm of garnet rim-ward of a Y annulus revealed an age of 976?±?4 Ma. The age is interpreted to reflect monazite growth at the expense of allanite and apatite late in garnet’s growth history over the P-T interval 4.5–6.8 kbar and 540–640 °C. This new age estimate for near peak metamorphism fits well into the regional framework but is significantly younger than previously reported ages for Ottawan metamorphism. Based on microstructures this new age suggests that compressional tectonics were operating much later in the history of the Grenville of southeastern Ontario than previously thought. 相似文献

This study evaluated the long‐term performance of enhanced anaerobic bioremediation (EAB) at chlorinated solvent sites to determine if sustained treatment processes were helping to prevent concentration rebound. A database of groundwater concentration versus time records was compiled for 34 sites, with at least 3 years of posttreatment monitoring data (median = 4.7 years, range = 3.0 to 11.7 years). Long‐term performance was evaluated based on order‐of‐magnitude (OoM) changes in parent compound concentrations during various monitoring periods. Results indicate that, relative to the pretreatment concentration, a median concentration reduction for all 34 sites of 1.0 OoM (90% reduction) was achieved by the end of the posttreatment monitoring period. No rebound was observed at 65% of the sites between the first year of posttreatment monitoring and the final year. During this posttreatment period, Mann‐Kendall trend analysis indicated that the concentration was stable or decreasing at 89% of the sites where a trend could be established (n = 27; 33% decreasing, 56% stable, 11% increasing). Statistical analysis indicates there is no evidence that the distribution of median concentration reductions after the first year of posttreatment monitoring was different than the distribution of median reductions 2 to 11 years later at the end of the monitoring period (p = 0.67). Similarly, statistical analysis indicates that there is no evidence that the distribution of median reductions for a larger set of sites (n = 84) with less than 3 years of posttreatment monitoring data (1.1 OoM; 92% reduction) was different than the distribution of median OoM reductions for the 34‐site dataset with longer monitoring periods (p = 0.80). This suggests that, at a typical site, a 3‐year monitoring period should be sufficient for evaluating performance. The results of this study indicate that, in the long term, after the end of active treatment, sustained treatment processes contribute to relatively modest concentration reductions but do mitigate rebound at the majority of EAB sites. 相似文献

Gold-bearing vein systems in the high mountains of Taiwan are part of the youngest tectonic-hydrothermal system on Earth.
Tectonic collision initiated in the Pliocene has stacked Eocene–Miocene marine sedimentary rocks to form steep mountains nearly
4 km high. Thinner portions of the sedimentary pile (∼5 km) are currently producing hydrocarbons in a fold and thrust belt,
and orogenic gold occurs in quartz veins in thicker parts of the pile (∼10 km) in the Slate Belt that underlies the mountains.
Metamorphic fluids (2–5 wt.% NaCl equivalent) are rising from the active greenschist facies metamorphic zone and transporting
gold released during rock recrystallisation. Metamorphic fluid flow at the Pingfengshan historic gold mine was focussed in
well-defined (4 km3) fracture zones with networks of quartz veins, whereas large surrounding volumes of rock are largely unveined. Gold and arsenopyrite
occur in several superimposed vein generations, with ankeritic alteration of host rocks superimposed on chlorite–calcite alteration
zones as fluids cooled and became out of equilibrium with the host rocks. Mineralising fluids had δ18O near +10‰, δ13C was between −1‰ and −6‰ and these fluids were in isotopic equilibrium with host rocks at ∼350°C. Ankeritic veins were emplaced
in extensional sites in kink fold axial surfaces, formed as the rock mass was transported laterally from compressional to
extensional regimes in the orogen. Rapid exhumation (>2 mm/year) of the Slate Belt is causing a widespread shallow conductive
thermal anomaly without igneous intrusions. Meteoric water is penetrating into the conductive thermal anomaly to contribute
to crustal fluid flow and generate shallow boiling fluids (∼250°C) with fluid temperature greater than rock temperature. The

This paper contains the results of an extensive isotopic study of United States Geological Survey GSD‐1G and MPI‐DING reference glasses. Thirteen different laboratories were involved using high‐precision bulk (TIMS, MC‐ICP‐MS) and microanalytical (LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS, LA‐ICP‐MS) techniques. Detailed studies were performed to demonstrate the large‐scale and small‐scale homogeneity of the reference glasses. Together with previously published isotopic data from ten other laboratories, preliminary reference and information values as well as their uncertainties at the 95% confidence level were determined for H, O, Li, B, Si, Ca, Sr, Nd, Hf, Pb, Th and U isotopes using the recommendations of the International Association of Geoanalysts for certification of reference materials. Our results indicate that GSD‐1G and the MPI‐DING glasses are suitable reference materials for microanalytical and bulk analytical purposes. 相似文献

We are carrying out the densest and longest multiyear, multiwavelength monitoring project of OJ 287 ever done. The project MOMO (Multiwavelength Observations and Modeling of OJ 287) covers wavelengths from the radio to the high-energy regime. A few selected observations are simultaneous with those of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). MOMO aims at understanding disk-jet physics and at testing predictions of the binary black hole scenario of OJ 287. Here, we present a discussion of extreme outburst and minima states in context, and then focus on the recent flux and spectral evolution between 2021 and May 2022, including an ongoing bright radio flare. Further, we show that there is no evidence for precursor flare activity in our optical–UV–X-ray light curves that would be associated with any secondary supermassive black hole (SMBH) disk impact and that was predicted to start as thermal flare on December 23, 2021. 相似文献

Using an instrumented aircraft, a complete sea-breeze circulation cell was sampled from its offshore end to the sea-breeze front over land and up to a height of approximately 1000 m AMSL. Many of its typical features can be resolved in detail mainly by cross-sectional analysis. Little is known about controls on river avulsion at geological time scales longer than 104 years, primarily because it is difficult to link observed changes in alluvial architecture to well‐defined allogenic mechanisms and to disentangle allogenic from autogenic processes. Recognition of Milankovitch‐sale orbital forcing in alluvial stratigraphy would provide unprecedented age control in terrestrial deposits, and also exploit models of allogenic forcing enabling more rigorous testing of allocyclic and autocyclic controls. The Willwood Formation of the Bighorn Basin is a lower Eocene fluvial unit distinctive for its thick sequence of laterally extensive lithological cycles on a scale of 4 to 10 m. Intervals of red palaeosols that formed on overbank mudstones are related to periods of relative channel stability when gradients between channel belts and floodplains were low. The intervening drab, heterolithic intervals with weak palaeosol development are attributed to episodes of channel avulsion that occurred when channels became super‐elevated above the floodplain. In the Deer Creek Amphitheater section in the McCullough Peaks area, these overbank and avulsion deposits alternate with a dominant cycle thickness of ca 7·1 m. Using integrated stratigraphic age constraints, this cyclicity has an estimated period of ca 21·6 kyr, which is in the range of the period of precession climate cycles in the early Eocene. Previous analyses of three older and younger sections in the Bighorn Basin showed a similar 7 to 8 m spacing of red palaeosol clusters with an estimated duration close to the precession period. Intervals of floodplain stability alternating with episodes of large‐scale reorganization of the fluvial system could be entirely autogenic; however, the remarkable regularity and the match in time scales documented here indicate that these alternations were probably paced by allogenic, astronomically forced climate change. 相似文献

Grazing and fire are major factors influencing the savanna ecosystems of Southern Africa. In both grazing and conservation
areas overgrazing is an important reason for degradation of vegetation and soil. Insufficient fire management can cause a
change in the species composition and may influence the soil negatively. For adequate planning purposes the knowledge of available
biomass is indispensable. High-resolution satellite systems can provide such knowledge on a large scale. Three study areas
in Southern Africa contributed to a first survey. Gutu District is situated in Zimbabwe. In its Communal Lands a high population
density leads to severe degradation of vegetation and soil. The South African test sites are located in Kruger National Park
and Madikwe Game Reserve. Therefore a wide ecological range from highly degraded to slightly disturbed savanna ecosystems
is included. Satellite images of both Landsat-5 (TM) and Landsat-7 (ETM+) were applied. After cross-calibration of the two
different satellite systems, indices applied to radiance and reflectance showed significant correlations with ground truth
data of grass and other foliage biomass. Including new data from Hluhluwe National Park (South Africa) into the regression
models improved the results, indicating that a regional model for savanna ecosystems in Southern Africa could be found.

We present a comprehensive study of star formation toward the H II region Sharpless 155(S155).Star-formation activities therein were investigated based on multi-wavelength data from optical to the far-infrared.The surface density distribution of selected 2MASS sources toward S155 indicates the existence of a compact cluster,which is spatially consistent with the position of the exciting source of the H II region,HD 217086.A sample of more than 200 sources with excessive emission in the infrared were selected based on their 2MASS color indices.The spatial distribution of the sample sources reveals the existence of three young subclusters in this region,among which subcluster A is spatially coincident with the bright rim of the H II region.In addition,photometric data from the WISE survey were used to identify and classify young stellar objects(YSOs).To further explore the evolutionary stages of the candidate YSOs,we fit the spectral energy distributions of 44 sources,which led to the identification of 14 Class I,27 Class II and 3 Class HI YSOs.The spatial distribution of the classified YSOs at different evolutionary stages presents a spatiotemporal gradient,which is consistent with a scenario of sequential star formation.On the other hand,Herschel PACS observations toward the interface between S155 and the ambient molecular cloud disclose an arc-shaped dust layer,the origin of which could be attributed to the UV dissipation from early type stars,e.g.HD 217061,in S155.Four dusty cores were revealed by the Herschel data,which hints at new generations of star formation. 相似文献
