Abstract— The Mg‐isotopic compositions in five barred olivine (BO) chondrules, one coarse‐grained rim of a BO chondrule, a relic spinel in a BO chondrule, one skeletal olivine chondrule similar to BO chondrules in mineralogy and composition, and two non‐BO chondrules from the Allende meteorite have been measured by thermal ionization mass spectrometry. The Mg isotopes are not fractionated and are within terrestrial standard values (±2.0%o per amu) in seven of the eight analyzed ferromagnesian chondrules. A clump of relic spinel grain and its host BO chondrule R‐11 give well‐resolvable Mg fractionations that show an enrichment of the heavier isotopes, up to +2.5%‰ per amu. The Mg‐isotopic compositions of coarse‐grained rim are identical to those of the host chondrule with BO texture. The results imply that ferromagnesian and refractory precursor components of the Allende chondrule may have been formed from isotopically heterogeneous reservoirs. In the nebula region where Allende chondrules formed, recycling of chondrules and multiple high‐temperature heating did not significantly alter the chemical and isotopic memory of earlier generations. Chemical and isotopic characteristics of refractory precursors of carbonaceous chondrite chondrules and CAIs are more closely related than previously thought. One of the refractory chondrule precursors of CV Allende is enriched in the heavier Mg isotopes and different from those of more common ferromagnesian chondrule precursors. The most probable scenario at the location where chondrule R‐11 formed is as follows. Before chondrule formation, several high‐temperature events occurred and then RPMs, refractory oxides, and silicates condensed from the nebular gas in which Mg isotopes were fractionated. Then, this CAI was transported into the chondrule formation region and mixed with more common, ferromagnesian precursors with normal Mg isotopes, and formed the BO chondrule. Because Mg isotope heterogeneity among silicates and spinel are found in some CAIs (Esat and Taylor, 1984), we cannot rule out the possibility that Mg isotopes of a melted portion of the refractory precursor (i.e., outer portion of CAI) are normal or enriched in the light isotope. Magnesium isotopes in the R‐11 host are also enriched in the heavier isotopes, +2.5%o per amu, which suggests that effects of isotopic heterogeneity among silicates and spinel, if they existed, are not considered to be large. It is possible that CAI precursor silicates partially dissolved during the chondrule forming event, contributing Mg to the melt and producing a uniform Mg‐isotopic signature but enriched in the heavier Mg isotopes, +2.5%‰ per amu. Most Mg isotopes in more common ferromagnesian chondrules represent normal chondritic material. Chemical and Mg‐isotopic signatures formed during nebular fractionations were not destroyed during thermal processes that formed the chondrule, and these were partly preserved in relic phases. Recycling of Allende chondrules and multiple heating at high temperature did not significantly alter the chemical and Mg‐isotopic memory of earlier generations.  相似文献

We investigate the extinction curves of young galaxies in which dust is supplied from Type II supernovae (SNe II) and/or pair instability supernovae (PISNe). Since at high redshift ( z > 5), low-mass stars cannot be dominant sources for dust grains, SNe II and PISNe, whose progenitors are massive stars with short lifetimes, should govern the dust production. Here, we theoretically investigate the extinction curves of dust produced by SNe II and PISNe, taking into account reverse shock destruction induced by collision with ambient interstellar medium. We find that the extinction curve is sensitive to the ambient gas density around a SN, since the efficiency of reverse shock destruction strongly depends on it. The destruction is particularly efficient for small-sized grains, leading to a flat extinction curve in the optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. Such a large ambient density as   n H≳ 1 cm−3  produces too flat an extinction curve to be consistent with the observed extinction curve for SDSS J1048+4637 at z = 6.2. Although the extinction curve is highly sensitive to the ambient density, the hypothesis that the dust is predominantly formed by SNe at z ∼ 6 is still allowed by the current observational constraints. For further quantification, the ambient density should be obtained by some other methods. Finally, we also discuss the importance of our results for observations of high- z galaxies, stressing a possibility of flat extinction curves.  相似文献

Precise polarization measurements in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region are expected to be a new tool for inferring the magnetic fields in the upper atmosphere of the Sun. High-reflectivity coatings are key elements to achieving high-throughput optics for precise polarization measurements. We fabricated three types of high-reflectivity coatings for a solar spectropolarimeter in the hydrogen Lyman-\(\upalpha \) (Ly\(\upalpha \); 121.567 nm) region and evaluated their performance. The first high-reflectivity mirror coating offers a reflectivity of more than 80 % in Ly\(\upalpha \) optics. The second is a reflective narrow-band filter coating that has a peak reflectivity of 57 % in Ly\(\upalpha \), whereas its reflectivity in the visible light range is lower than 1/10 of the peak reflectivity (\(\sim 5~\%\) on average). This coating can be used to easily realize a visible light rejection system, which is indispensable for a solar telescope, while maintaining high throughput in the Ly\(\upalpha \) line. The third is a high-efficiency reflective polarizing coating that almost exclusively reflects an s-polarized beam at its Brewster angle of 68° with a reflectivity of 55 %. This coating achieves both high polarizing power and high throughput. These coatings contributed to the high-throughput solar VUV spectropolarimeter called the Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha SpectroPolarimeter (CLASP), which was launched on 3 September, 2015.  相似文献

On the basis of the effective temperature scale proposed previously for cool carbon stars (Paper I), other intrinsic properties of them are examined in detail. It is shown that the major spectroscopic properties of cool carbon stars, including those of molecular bands due to polyatomic species (SiC2, HCN, C2H2 etc.), can most consistently be understood on the basis of our new effective temperature scale and the theoretical prediction of chemical equilibrium. Various photometric indices of cool carbon stars also appear to be well correlated with the new effective temperatures. Furthermore, as effective temperatures of some 30 carbon stars are now obtained, the calibration of any photometric index is straightforward, and some examples of such a calibration are given. In general, colour index-effective temperature calibrations for carbon stars are quite different from those for K-M giant stars. It is found that the intrinsic (RI)0 colour is nearly the same for N-irregular variables in spite of a considerable spread in effective temperatures, and this fact is used to estimate the interstellar reddening of carbon stars. An observational HR diagram of red giant stars, including carbon stars as well as K-M giant stars, is obtained on the basis of our colour index-effective temperature calibrations and the best estimations of luminosities. It is shown that carbon stars and M giant stars are sharply divided in the HR diagram by a nearly vertical line at aboutT eff = 3200 K (logT eff = 3.50) and the carbon stars occupy the upper right region of M giant stars (except for some high luminosity, high temperature J-type stars in the Magellanic Clouds; also Mira variables are not considered). Such an observational HR diagram of red giant stars shows rather a poor agreement with the current stellar evolution models. Especially, a more efficient mixing process in red giant stars, as compared with those ever proposed, is required to explain the formation of carbon stars.  相似文献

It is shown by numerical simulations that enhanced current density can generate double layers, even when the electron drift speed is significantly below the electron thermal speed. The double layer potential is spontaneously produced by the space charge self-consistently developed inside the simulation domain. The particle influxes from the low-potential boundary of our simulation domain are independent of the outfluxes. The potential difference φ0 is shown increase with increasing number density of the injection current. Strong double layers with potential energy 0 ? kT0 (the electron thermal energy) are stably formed when the injection electron current much exceeds the thermal current of ambient electrons. The backscattered and mirrored electrons are found to have stabilizing effects on the current-driven double layers.  相似文献

We present ray tracing simulations combined with sets of large N -body simulations. Experiments were performed to explore, for the first time, the statistical properties of fluctuations in angular separation of nearby light-ray pairs (the so-called lensing excursion angle) induced by weak lensing by large-scale structures. We found that the probability distribution function (PDF) of the lensing excursion angles is not simply Gaussian, but has an exponential tail. It is found, however, that the tail, or more generally the non-Gaussian nature of the PDF has no significant impact on the weak lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Moreover, we found that the variance in the lensing excursion angles predicted by the power spectrum approach is in good agreement with our numerical results. These results demonstrate the validity of using the power spectrum approach to compute lensing effects on the CMB.  相似文献

Concentrations of total arsenic and individual arsenic compounds were determined in liver, muscle, kidney and blubber of mother and fetus of Dall’s porpoises collected from off Sanriku, Japan, in the year 2000 to characterize the placental transfer of arsenic to fetus in cetaceans. Arsenic was detected in all the tissues of Dall’s porpoises. Total arsenic concentrations in liver, kidney, muscle and blubber were 0.76, 0.69, 0.35 and 0.55 μg/g wet wt, respectively, for mother and 0.28, 0.23, 0.26 and 0.07 μg/g wet wt, respectively, for fetus. In all the tissues, concentrations of total arsenic in mother Dall’s porpoise were higher than in fetus. Arsenic speciation revealed that arsenobetaine was the major arsenic compound in liver, kidney and muscle of both mother and fetus. The percentage of arsenobetaine to total arsenic ranged from 76.0 to 91.0% in the tissues. Dimethylarsinic acid, arsenocholine, methylarsonic acid and an unidentified arsenic compound were also detected in tissues of both mother and fetus as minor constituents, whereas tetramethylarsonium ion was not detected in tissues of the fetus. These results suggest that arsenobetaine, dimethylarsinic acid, arsenocholine and methylarsonic acid are transferable from mother to fetus in Dall’s porpoises. To our knowledge, this is the first report on placental transfer of arsenic compounds to fetus in marine mammals.  相似文献

Integration of landform and structural analysis allowed the identification of Late Pleistocene–Holocene pulses of tectonic activity in the Campos do Jordão Plateau with ages and regimes similar to the ones from the continental rift. Fault reactivation along Precambrian shear zones give rise to a series of conspicuous morphotectonic features, determine the formation of stream piracy phenomena, and divide the plateau into smaller blocks. Recognition of these tectonic pulses as well as of their effects in landform development—particularly clear on the Campos de São Francisco at the highest area of the SE edge of the plateau—show that besides the climate-related Quaternary environmental changes significant neotectonic instability should be considered in the geomorphic evolution of the Campos do Jordão Plateau.  相似文献
