Studies of basement‐bounded canyons in West Greenland show that these were long‐lasting features that extended inland for several hundreds of kilometres, acting as prominent sediment conduits sourcing the Albian–Palaeocene Nuussuaq Basin during several phases of basin evolution. The Ilulissat Icefjord canyon was the major conduit for sediment into the basin and provenance data indicate that it had a huge catchment area that extended to East Greenland. The Uparuaqqusuitsut canyon was also an important conduit for sediment in the northern part of the basin. It is suggested that the initial canyon formation occurred during uplift events in the Late Triassic and Late Jurassic when the deeply weathered basement surface formed during Early–Middle Triassic time was eroded. The recognition of these canyons as long‐lasting sediment conduits have huge implications for understanding the sediment distribution, source‐to‐sink studies and the palaeogeography of the North Atlantic basins.  相似文献

Understanding transpiration and plant physiological responses to environmental conditions is crucial for the design and management of vegetated engineered covers. Engineered covers rely on sustained transpiration to reduce the risk of deep drainage into potentially hazardous wastes, thereby minimizing contamination of water resources. This study quantified temporal trends of plant water potential (ψp), stomatal conductance (gs), and transpiration in a 4‐year‐old evergreen woody vegetation growing on an artificial sandy substrate at a mine waste disposal facility. Transpiration averaged 0.7 mm day?1 in winter, when rainfall was frequent, but declined to 0.2 mm day?1 in the dry summer, when the plants were quite stressed. In winter, the mean ψp was ?0.6 MPa at predawn and ?1.5 MPa at midday, which were much higher than the corresponding summer values of ?2.0 MPa and ?4.8 MPa, respectively. The gs was also higher in winter (72.1–95.0 mmol m?2 s?1) than in summer (<30 mmol m?2 s?1), and negatively correlated with ψp (p < 0.05, r2 = 0.71–0.75), indicating strong stomatal control of transpiration in response to moisture stress. Total annual transpiration (147.2 mm) accounted for only 22% of the annual rainfall (673 mm), compared with 77% to 99% for woody vegetation in Western Australia. The low annual transpiration was attributed to the collective effects of a sparse and young vegetation, low moisture retention of the sandy substrate, and a superficial root system constrained by high subsoil pH. Amending the substrate with fine‐textured materials should improve water storage of the substrate and enhance canopy growth and deep rooting, while further reducing the risk of deep drainage during the early stages of vegetation establishment and in the long term. Overall, this study highlights the need to understand substrate properties, vegetation characteristics, and rainfall patterns when designing artificial ecosystems to achieve specific hydrological functions. 综合运用岩心观察、薄片鉴定、物性分析等技术方法,系统分析了文安斜坡沙三段储层岩石学特征、成岩作用特征及储集特征。研究表明,文安斜坡沙三段储层岩石类型以岩屑长石砂岩为主,杂基含量低,成分成熟度和结构成熟度中等;储集空间以原生孔隙为主,占总孔隙的72.81%,储集物性较差,属中低孔-低渗特低渗储层;储层主要经历了压实作用/早期碳酸盐胶结→长石、岩屑溶解/石英次生加大/高岭石充填→石英溶解/碳酸盐胶结→黄铁矿胶结。在有效储层物性下限计算的基础上,选取孔隙度差值作为参数,系统分析了有效储层控制因素。有效储层的形成主要受沉积微相、粒度、分选、成岩作用以及地层压力控制。水下分流河道和河口坝微相中碎屑颗粒越粗,分选越好,杂基含量越少,有效储层越发育;胶结作用对储层物性的控制较明显,是影响中深层储层物性的主要因素;溶蚀作用主要表现为长石等硅酸盐矿物的溶蚀,平均增孔量3.42%;早期地层超压抑制压实作用,保护孔隙,是有效储层发育的有利因素。  相似文献

Deposit-feeders often select for particles on the basis of grain size. The available pool of particles at the sediment surface may be modified both by deposit-feeder activity and by sediment transport, but the effects of these alterations on deposit-feeder diet composition have received little attention. In laboratory experiments the spionid polychaeteParaprionospio pinnata altered the grain-size composition in its foraging area, and these alterations were reflected in grain-size changes in the diet. After simulated transport of fine-grain sediments,P. pinnata diets also changed in grain-size composition. Field data were collected from 9 m depth in the lower Chesapeake Bay. A video camera, deployed near the bottom, identified times of sediment transport over a 6-h Period;P. pinnata were collected concurrently for gut analysis. Consistent with predictions from the laboratory experiments,P. pinnata ingested primarily small-grain sizes. During periods of no sediment transport this feeding pattern reduced the relative availability of small particles; larger sediments were incorporated into the diet. Sediment transport may resupply the foraging area with fine-grain particles which are then incorporated into the diet. On these small spatial and time scales, deposit-feeder activity may affect the availability of food resources.  相似文献

Summary In the present paper current results of experimental investigation of the phase system Pd-Fe-Ni-S at 900°C, 725°C, 550°C and 400°C as well as of the phase system Pt-Fe-As-S at 850°C and 470°C are summarized. A preliminary note on the system Pt-Pd-As-S is added. Individual phase assemblages are presented, data on solubility of PGE in base metal sulphides/arsenides or alloys are given and solid solution ranges of important minerals are described as a function of temperature and phase assemblage. The extent and role of sulphide/arsenide melts in these systems are presented together with hints for, and examples of the application of the current experimental results for the explanation of ore-geological processes.
Bisherige Ergebnisse experimenteller Untersuchungen in den Systemen Fe-Ni-Pd-S und Fe-Pt-Pd-As-S und ihre Bedeutung für Lagerstätten der Platin-Gruppen-Elemente
Zusammenfassung In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden bisherige Ergebnisse experimenteller Untersuchungen in den Phasensystemen Pd-Fe-Ni-S bei 900°C, 725°C, 550°C sowie 400°C, bzw. Pt-Fe-As-S bei 850°C und 470°C zusammengefasst. Vorläufige Anmerkungen zum System Pt-Pd-As-S werden gegeben. Die Phasenbeziehungen und die Löslichkeitsdaten von PGE's in Buntmetall-Sulfiden/Arseniden sowie deren Verbindungen werden präsentiert. Die Mischungsbereiche der wichtigsten Minerale werden als Funktion von Temperatur und Phasenvergesellschaftung diskutiert. Die Rolle von Sulfid/Arsenid Schmelzen in diesen Systemen und Beispiele für die Anwendung dieser experimentellen Ergebnisse zur Erklärung lagerstättenkundlicher Prozesse werden beschrieben.

The literature is reviewed and analysis made of references to more than 60 vertebrates that use lodges or bank burrows built by the muskrat,Ondatra zibethicus L. Muskrat homes are important to turtles, waterfowl, terns, carnivores, rodents, and other species for shelter, nesting, getting above the water, or seeking food. No use is obligate but the availability of muskrat homes may limit some species. Effects on vertebrate associates should be considered when muskrat populations are manipulated.  相似文献

Diagenetic alteration is critical for the preservation of fossil cuticles of plant and animal origin and to the formation of kerogen. The process takes place over millions of years, but the stage at which it is initiated is not known. Laboratory decay experiments were carried out on shrimps, scorpions and cockroaches to monitor changes in the chitin–protein of the arthropod cuticle and associated lipids. The cockroach and scorpion exoskeleton remained largely unaltered morphologically, but the shrimp experienced rapid decomposition within a month, which progressed through the 44 week duration of the experiment as revealed using electron microscopy. Mass spectrometry and 13C NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy revealed the association of an n-alkyl component with labile lipids, such as fatty acids with up to 24 carbon atoms, which were incorporated into the decaying macromolecule. The scorpion and cockroach cuticle did not reveal the incorporation of additional lipids, indicating that decay is important in initiating in situ lipid association. This experiment provides evidence that lipids can become associated with carbohydrate and proteinaceous macromolecules during the very early stages of decay, representing the first stage in the transformation process that contributes to the aliphatic rich composition ubiquitous in organic fossils and kerogen.  相似文献

In Arctic alpine regions, glacio‐lacustrine environments respond sensitively to variations in climate conditions, impacting, for example,glacier extent and rendering former ice‐contact lakes into ice distal lakes and vice versa. Lakefloors may hold morphological records of past glacier extent, but remoteness and long periods of ice cover on such lakes make acquisition of high‐resolution bathymetric datasets challenging. Lake Tarfala and Kebnepakte Glacier, located in the Kebnekaise mountains, northern Sweden, comprise a small, dynamic glacio‐lacustrine system holding a climate archive that is not well studied. Using an autonomous surface vessel, a high‐resolution bathymetric dataset for Lake Tarfala was acquired in 2016, from which previously undiscovered end moraines and a potential grounding line feature were identified. For Kebnepakte Glacier, structure‐from‐motion photogrammetry was used to reconstruct its shape from photographs taken in 1910 and 1945. Combining these methods connects the glacial landform record identified at the lakefloor with the centennial‐scale dynamic behaviour of Kebnepakte Glacier. During its maximum 20th century extent, attained c. 1910, Kebnepakte Glacier reached far into Lake Tarfala, but had retreated onto land by 1945, at an average of 7.9 m year–1. Alkahne ultramafic lamprophyres and associated carbonatite dykes form north-south trending dyke swarms. The lamprophyres are sub-divided into micaceous, picritic and breccia varieties. Carbonatites sensu stricto (beforsites) occur very subordinate.The dykes of the Kalix area show great similarities to petrographically related rocks from other Scandinavian occurrences (Sokli, Alnö and Fen). Major differences are found in their tectonic setting (regularly striking dyke swarms) and the REE-pattern (distinctly negative cerium anomalies).The following petrogenetic model is advanced for the Kalix dykes: (1) partial melting of upper mantle material, (2) Intrusion into a crustal magma chamber, fractional crystallization, (3) Interactions between crystallized material and the volatile phase (light REE depletion, oxidation of cerium), (4) Intrusion in fracture zones under horizontal tension.
Zusammenfassung Alkalin-ultrabasiscbe Lamprophyre und begleitende KarbonatitgÄnge bilden nordsüdlidi streichende GangschwÄrme. Die Lamprophyre zeigen gewisse Ähnlichkeiten zu alnöitischen und kimberlitischen Gesteinen; sie wurden unterteilt in glimmerreiche und pikritische Lamprophyre sowie Brekzien. Karbonatite im engeren Sinn treten nur sehr untergeordnet auf; sie sind als Beforsite charakterisiert.Die Ganggesteine des Kalix-Gebiets weisen gro\e Ähnlichkeiten mit petrographiscb verwandten Gesteinen von anderen skandinavischen Vorkommen (Sokli, Alnö und Fen) auf. GrundsÄtzliche Unterschiede finden sich vor allem im tektonischen Auftreten (ziemlich konstant streichende GangschwÄrme) und im Verteilungsmuster der seltenen Erden (deutlich negative Cer-Anomalien).Die Bildung der Kalix-GÄnge wird folgenderweise erklÄrt: (1) Partielle Aufschmelzung des oberen Mantels, (2) Intrusion der Schmelze in eine krustale Magmakammer, gefolgt von fraktionierter Kristallisation, (3) Reaktion zwischen vorzugsweise kristallisiertem Material und der volatilen Phase (Entarmung an leichten seltenen Erden, Oxidation des Cers), (4) Intrusion in Bruchzonen, die horizonteller Dehnung ausgesetzt sind.

Résumé Des lamprophyres alcalins ultrabasiques accompagnés de carbonatites forment des essaims de dykes de direction nord-sud. Les lamprophyres se subdivisent en variétés micacée, picritique ainsi que brÊchique. Les carbonatites sensu stricto sont rares et sont plutÔ des beforsites.Les dykes de la région de Kalix présentent de grandes similitudes avec des roches pétrographiquement apparentées d'autres localités Scandinaves (Sokli, Alnö et Fen). Les différences essentielles sont dues à leur situation tectonique (essaims de dykes de direction régulière) ainsi qu'à la distribution des Terres Rares (anomalie négative distincte de cérium).Le modèle pétrogénétique suivant est proposé pour les dykes de Kalix: (1) fusion partielle de matériau du manteau supérieur, (2) intrusion dans une chambre magmatique de l'écorce et cristallisation fractionnée, (3) interaction entre le material déjà cristallisé et la phase volatile (appauvrissement des éléments légers des Terres Rares, oxydation du cérium), (4) intrusion le long de zones de fracture dans des conditions d'extension horizontale.
