Some aspects related to the asymptotic solutions of the laminar boundary-layer equations with heat flux

The oscillatory, conjugate and asymptotic behaviours of the principal and non-principal solutions of the Blasius and corresponding heat transfer equations governing the compressible laminar boundary-layer flow over a semi-infinite flat plate with heat flux have been studied; the results of the discussion being based on the asymptotic integrations of second-order linear differential equations.     

Coronal Holes and Flare Index: A correlation study

The correlation between the presence of coronal holes and flare indices has been investigated for the period from 1976 to 1995. The analysis shows that in the cases of 227 Carrington rotations (CRs) backward time lags yield the highest correlation between the coronal holes and flare indices. The maximum correlations were found at time lags of 222 and 142 CRs for polar and equatorial coronal holes, respectively. The period of study covers the past two solar cycles (21 and 22). Correlation analysis of both solar cycles has also been studied individually. The correlation analysis reveals that there is in general a forward shift in the maximum correlation for polar coronal holes, but it cannot be recommended to use polar coronal hole numbers for forecasting the next solar cycle.     

Bianchi type – IX string cosmological models with bulk viscous fluid in general relativity

Some Bianchi Type IX string cosmological models with bulk viscous fluid for massive string is investigated. To get a determinate solution, a supplementary condition a=b ⁿ, between metric potentials, is used wherea and b are function of time alone. A particular solution for n=0 is also discussed. The behaviour of the model in presence and absence of bulk viscosity, is discussed. The physical and implications of the model is also discussed. Hysteresis‐based analysis of overland metal transport

Introducing a concept of equivalent mass depth of flow, this study describes the phenomenon of non‐point source pollutant (metal) transport for pavement (or overland) flow in analogy with wave propagation in wide open channels. Hysteretic and normal mass rating curves are developed for runoff rate and mass of 12 dissolved and particulate‐bound metal elements (pollutants) using the rainfall‐runoff and water quality data of the 15 × 20 m² instrumented pavement in Cincinnati, USA. Normal mass rating curves developed for easy computation of pollutant load are found to be of a form similar to Manning's, which is valid for open channel flows. Based on the hysteresis analysis, wave types for dissolution and mixing of particulate‐bound metals are identified. The analysis finds that the second‐order partial‐differential equation normally used for metal transport does not have the efficacy to describe fully the strong non‐linear phenomena such as is described for various metal elements by dynamic waves. In addition, the proportionality concept of the popular SCS‐CN concept is extended for determining the potential maximum metal mass M_p of all the 12 elements transported by a rain storm and related to the antecedent dry period (ADP). For the primary metal zinc element, M_p is found to increase with the ADP and vice versa. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

A possible presence of HeH+ in white dwarfs

The equivalent width calculations for the fundamental vibration rotation band lines of HeH⁺ have been carried out for a non-DA white dwarf model with an effective temperature of 12 000 K. BothP andR branch lines with rotational quantum numbersJ=3 to 18 were included in the calculations. A search for these lines in helium rich white dwarfs is suggested.     

Axially-symmetric quasi-neutral charged dust distributions in general relativity

A solution of Einstein-Maxwell equations representing a distribution of equal and opposite charges moving in circles in opposite directions around thez-axis is obtained. In a particular case the solution reduces to the special case of Levi-Civita metric for a line-mass placed along thez-axis. The asymptotic behaviour of the solution is also discussed.
