Remote sensing techniques have proved to be highly efficient in the exploration of Mars. Availability of several sensors operating across the electromagnetic spectrum on-board orbiters, landers and rovers has helped better understand the surface and atmospheric conditions on the Red planet. This article summarises the application potential of the sensors operating in different wavelength regions for Martian surface studies. Mars unlike Earth allows for utilizing remote sensing techniques in the complete thermal infrared region, owing to narrow absorption regions from a singularly dominant CO2 atmosphere which facilitate detailed lithological mapping. This work also reviews various methodologies adopted till date to study the lithology, mineralogy and fluvial geomorphology including inferences from Syrtis Major volcanic construct. It is evident from the studies, Syrtis Major has well developed fluvial channels mostly attributed to lava flows. However, spectroscopic studies reveal the presence of hydroxylated and hydrated minerals which indicate that lava might not be the sole factor resulting in channel generation in the construct. Future space missions with high resolution payloads targeting this volcanic construct are indispensable to study these channels in detail. 相似文献

Landslide Susceptibility Analysis of Shiv-Khola Watershed, Darjiling: A Remote Sensing & GIS Based Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In the present study, Remote Sensing Technique and GIS tools were used to prepare landslide susceptibility map of Shiv-khola watershed, one of the landslide prone part of Darjiling Himalaya, based on 9 landslide inducing parameters like lithology, slope gradient, slope aspect, slope curvature, drainage density, upslope contributing area, land use and land cover, road contributing area and settlement density applying Analytical Hierarchy Approach (AHA). In this approach, quantification of the factors was executed on priority basis by pair-wise comparison of the factors. Couple comparing matrix of the factors were being made with reasonable consistency for understanding relative dominance of the factors as well as for assigning weighted mean/prioritized factor rating value for each landslide triggering factors through arithmetic mean method using MATLAB Software. The factor maps/thematic data layers were generated with the help of SOI Topo-sheet, LIIS-III Satellite Image (IRS P6/Sensor-LISS-III, Path-107, Row-052, date-18/03/2010) by using Erdas Imagine 8.5, PCI Geomatica, Arc View and ARC GIS Software. Landslide frequency (%) for each class of all the thematic data layers was calculated to assign the class weight value/rank value. Then, weighted linear combination (WLC) model was implied to determine the landslide susceptibility coefficient value (LSCV or ??M??) integrating factors weight and assigned class weight on GIS platform. Greater the value of M, higher is the propensity of landslide susceptibility over the space. Then Shivkhola watershed was classified into seven landslide susceptibility zones and the result was verified by ground truth assessment of existing landslide location where the classification accuracy was 92.86 and overall Kappa statistics was 0.8919. 相似文献

Following some of the recent articles on hole super-conductivity and related phenomena by Hirsch (Phys. Lett. A 134:451, 1989; Phys. Rev. B 68:184502, 2003a; Phys. Rev. B 71:184521, 2005a and Phys. Lett. A 345:453, 2005b) a simple model is proposed to explain the observed low surface magnetic field of the expected quark stars. It is argued
that the diamagnetic moments of the electrons circulating in the electro-sphere induce a magnetic field, which forces the
existing quark star magnetic flux density to become dilute. For the sake of completeness, we have also included the analyses
of instability at the normal-super-conducting interface due to excess accumulation of magnetic flux lines. The instability
at the interface has also been studied numerically.

A group of 36 coral islands is being scattered in the Arabian Sea off the western coast of India. On such islands, groundwater
is the only source of fresh water for the islanders. The demand for groundwater is increasing every year due to growing population
and urbanization. On the other side the peculiar hydrologic, geologic and geomorphic features restrict the availability of
groundwater. Thus a proper understanding of the groundwater condition is important in order to meet this increasing demand
and also to formulate future development and management strategies. Detailed hydrogeological, geophysical and hydrochemical
studies had been carried out to identify potential fresh groundwater resources and quantify vulnerable parts of Andrott Island,
Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Systematic collection and analysis of hydrological, geophysical and hydrochemical data gives
an early signal of deterioration in groundwater quality in the peripheral parts of eastern and western coasts of this island
and it suggests immediate measures for arresting the deterioration in groundwater quality as well as augmentation for restoration
of aquifer in some parts of the island. 相似文献

Fluoride (F) contamination study had been carried out to see its allocation in Kurmapalli watershed, Nalgonda district, Andhra
Pradesh, India. The study area is located about 60 km SE of Hyderabad city. The groundwater is the main source of water for
their living. The groundwater in villages and its surrounding are affected by fluoride contamination and consequently the
majority of the people living in these villages has health hazards and is facing fluorosis. The purpose of this study is to
identify the wells with high F, raise awareness in people, study the water chemistry, and also find out the source of F in
groundwater. A total of 32 groundwater samples were collected from different wells in both shallow aquifers and deeper fractures
zones during October 2004. The chemical analysis of groundwater has been done. Fluoride values vary from 0.7 to 19.0 mg/l.
It is noted that the maximum value (19.0 mg/l) is one of the highest values found in groundwater in India and 78% of the total
samples show F concentrations that exceeds the permissible limit value (1.5 mg/l). The highest value of F is found at Madanapur
bore well which is located at central part of the watershed. The F value of this bore well was monitored from October 2004
to October 2006. During this period the F concentration varies from 17.8 to 21.0 mg/l with mean 19.3 mg/l. There is no correlation
of F with chemical parameters except calcium. The Ca has shown inverse proportional with F. Water–rock interaction studies
were also carried out to understand the behavior of F in groundwater at prominent F affected areas. Rock samples were collected
and analyzed, and found their enrichment of F. The anthropogenic possibility of F is almost negligible. The rocks of this
area are enriched in F from 460 to 1,706 mg/kg. It is indicated that the rock–water interaction is the main source of F in
groundwater. The highest values of F are found in middle part of the region and are related to the occurrence of fluoride
rich rocks and their chemical kinetic behavior with groundwater. 相似文献

The present paper deals with the modeling of the removal of total arsenic As(T), trivalent arsenic As(III), and pentavalent arsenic As(V) from synthetic solutions containing total arsenic (0.167–2.0 mg/L), Fe (0.9–2.7 mg/L), and Mn (0.2–0.6 mg/L) in a batch reactor using Fe impregnated granular activated charcoal (GAC‐Fe). Mass ratio of As(III) and As(V) in the solution was 1:1. Multi‐layer neural network (MLNN) has been used and full factorial design technique has been applied for the selection of input data set. The developed models are able to predict the adsorption of arsenic species with an error limit of ?0.3 to +1.7%. Combination of MLNN with design of experiment has been able to generalize the MLNN with less number of experimental points. 相似文献

Gravitational wave signal characteristics from a binary black hole system in which the companion moves through the accretion disc of the primary are studied. We chose the primary to be a super-massive ( M = 108 M⊙ ) Kerr black hole and the companion to be a massive black hole ( M = 105 M⊙ ) to clearly demonstrate the effects. We show that the drag exerted on the companion by the disc is sufficient to reduce the coalescence time of the binary. The drag is primarily due to the fact that the accretion disc on a black hole deviates from a Keplerian disc and becomes sub-Keplerian due to inner boundary condition on the black hole horizon. We consider two types of accretion rates on to the companion. The companion is deeply immersed inside the disc and it can accrete at the Bondi rate which depends on the instantaneous density of the disc. However, an accretion disc can also form around the smaller black hole and it can accrete at its Eddington rate. Thus, this case is also studied and the results are compared. We find that the effect of the disc will be significant in reducing the coalescence time and one needs to incorporate this while interpreting gravitational wave signals emitted from such a binary system. 相似文献

Presence of irregularities in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings increases seismic vulnerability. During severe seismic shaking, such buildings may suffer disproportionate damage or even collapse that can be minimized by increasing robustness. Robustness is a desirable property of structural systems that can mitigate susceptible buildings to disproportionate collapse. In this paper, the effects of vertical irregularity and thickness of unreinforced masonry infill on the robustness of a six‐story three‐bay RC frame are quantified. Nonlinear static analysis of the frame is performed, and parametric study is undertaken by considering two parameters: absence of masonry infill at different floors (i.e., vertical irregularities) and infill thickness. Robustness has been quantified in terms of stiffness, base shear, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity of the frame. It was observed that the infill thickness and vertical irregularity have significant influence on the response of RC frame. The response surface method is used to develop a predictive equation for robustness as a function of the two parameters. The predictive equation is validated further using 12 randomly selected computer simulations. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

For the delineation of water-bearing fractures in hard rock areas, a new hydro-chemical technique has been developed which
is based on electrical conductivity (EC) logs. The EC logs were carried out in experimental shallow bore wells (≈50 m) in
three different parts of India. A sharp variation in EC was observed near water-bearing fractures in hard rock areas. To access
applications of this technique, different locations in India were selected and experimental bore wells (≈50 m) were drilled.
These were:
Observations on EC logs were made at short intervals of 1.0 m from the water table (narrow spacing wherever required) until
reaching the bottom of the wells. EC showed remarkable changes in value, which was attributed to the presence of water-bearing
fractures in the hard rock areas. The results of this study are in good agreement with geophysical and geological findings.
In addition to identifying the water-bearing fractures, the EC logs also provide various other hydrological and hydrochemical
information, i.e., water table, total depth of the bore well, total dissolved solids (TDS), behavior of water–rock interaction,
water quality, information about the chemistry of aquifers, etc. 相似文献
