Time variations of the hard X-ray spectrum in solar flares are observed by the hard X-ray spectrometer (HXM) aboard the Hinotori satellite. With a new presentation of the dynamic spectrum we have studied the differences between impulsive and gradual hard X-ray bursts. In the impulsive events a “bent” spectrum up to some hundred keV persists at least until the main peak. In the gradual events, on the other hand, a power-law spectrum augmented by a low-energy excess is dominant. 相似文献

The harmonic ratios of a large sample of inverted-U bursts are found to be smaller at the turning frequency than at the starting frequency. Ratios <2.0 are explained by postulating that the lowest fundamental frequencies emitted are prevented from escaping from the corona by an evanescent region between the source and the observer. Studying space weather is an excellent subject for getting people interested in space science in general; therefore, it is being included as part of the education and public outreach activities being organized during the International Heliophysical Year (IHY). The general public find the subject interesting because variation in the space environment, i.e., space weather, can be related to their daily lives. The international organization concerned with space weather is called the International Space Environment Service (ISES). This organization is composed of the World Warning Agency (WWA) and 11 Regional Warning Centers (RWCs). This paper presents three-dimensional fi nite element (FE) analyses of an all-frame model of a three-story reinforced concrete (RC) building damaged in the 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake. Non-structural brick walls of the building acted as a seismic resistant element although their contributions were neglected in the design. Hence, the entire structure of a typical frame was modeled and static and dynamic nonlinear analyses were conducted to evaluate the contributions of the brick walls. However, the results of the analyses were considerably overestimated due to coarse mesh discretizations, which were unavoidable due to limited computer resources. This study corrects the overestimations by modifying (1) the tensile strengths and (2) shear stiffness reduction factors of concrete and brick. The results indicate that brick walls improve frame strength although shear failures are caused in columns shortened by spandrel walls. Then, the effectiveness of three types of seismic retrofi ts is evaluated. The maximum drift of the firstoor is reduced by 89.3%, 94.8%, and 27.5% by Steel-confi ned, Full-RC, and Full-brick models, respectively. Finally, feasibility analyses of models with soils were conducted. The analyses indicated that the soils elongate the natural period of building models although no signifi cant differences were observed. 相似文献

Imposex and organotin (OT) tissue contamination of the netted whelk Nassarius reticulatus (L.) were assessed in the continental shelves around the main estuaries of the central coast of Portugal (Lisbon: Tagus estuary; Setúbal: Sado estuary) and the main coastal lagoon in the Southern of Portugal (Faro: Ria Formosa). Pollution levels were higher in areas of more intense boat traffic and shipyard activities and imposex showed a clear decreasing gradient from the estuaries to the offshore, in relation to a similar gradient of tissue contamination by tributyltin. Remarkably, imposex was extensively spread over the adjacent continental shelves of Tagus and Sado estuaries. The current work shows that TBT pollution is undoubtedly a matter of concern not only for the above estuaries where harbours are implanted but also for the adjacent continental shelves, regardless the massive dilution of contaminants that may occur in these deeper areas. 相似文献

The cross-shore variation of long-term average longshore current velocity was investigated on the basis of a 15-year data set of longshore current, wave and wind. The longshore current velocities were measured once a day along a 427-m-long pier. The results show that the direction of the long-term average longshore current velocity away (>200 m) from the shore was the opposite to that near the shore. The southward current was dominant offshore, whereas the northward current was dominant near the shore. The cross-shore variation of the long-term average longshore current velocity was formed owing to a difference between the wave and wind conditions when the northward and southward currents developed. When the northward current developed, the offshore wave height was relatively small and the frequency of the southward wind velocity was almost equal to that of the northward one. As a result, the northward current developed only near the shore and decayed outside the narrow surf zone. On the other hand, when the southward current developed, the offshore wave height was relatively large and the southward wind velocity was predominant, which resulted in the southward current developing not only in the wide surf zone but also outside the surf zone. The superposition of the two cross-shore variations produced a cross-shore variation of the long-term average longshore current velocity with a northward velocity near the shore and a southward velocity away from the shore. 相似文献

A numerical simulation has been made for the dynamics of non-thermal electrons (> 10keV) injected with spatial, temporal and velocity distributions into a model coronal loop. The time variations of the spatial intensity distribution and the spectrum for the expected hard X-rays are computed for many models in order to find the important physical parameters for those characteristics.The most important one is the column density of plasma, CD, along the loop. If CD is smaller than 1020 cm–2, the expected X-rays behave like the solar impulsive hard X-ray bursts, that is the spatial maximum of X-rays shifts to the top of the loop in the later phase of the burst accompanying a spectral softening. On the other hand, if CD is greater than this value, quasi-steady decay appears in the later phase. In this case the intensity distribution of X-rays above about 20 keV along the loop shows a broad maximum away from the loop top giving an extended spatial distribution of hard X-rays, and spectral hardness is kept constant. These characteristics are similar to the solar gradual hard X-ray bursts (the so-called extended burst which is not a hot thermal gradual burst). 相似文献

Numerical simulation is made of the impulsive loop flare caused by transient heat conduction along the loop with an applied axial electric current.It is assumed that a segment near the top of the coronal loop is heated to above 107 K by a heat input that is small compared with the total flare energy, which is given by the magnetic energy of the initial current. Due to the heat conduction, a hump appears in the velocity distribution of electrons, which may excite electron plasma waves with a sufficiently high intensity to cause an anomalous resistivity, as shown theoretically in a previous paper. In that paper, an effect of the plasma waves on the dynamics of electrons was taken into account consistently, but an anomalous heating due to an ohmic dissipation of the initial current under the anomalous resistivity was not taken into account.The aim of the present study is to study the subsequent dynamics of the heated gas caused by the anomalous heating, but in order to avoid an unpractically long computation time, the energy density of the plasma waves is estimated by the energy density of electrons in the velocity hump, without taking into account the effect of the plasma waves consistently in the dynamics of the electrons.The initial current starts to decay gradually by an ohmic dissipation under the anomalous resistivity occurring near the top of the loop to heat this region more. The enhanced heat conduction causes the velocity humps in a wider location. Consequently, the anomalous heating continues and spreads in a self-generating way even after the end of the initial minor heating. Thus the temperature near the loop top becomes above 108 K and the high-temperature region spreads in both directions along the loop with such a high speed as (2–3) × 104 km s–1, which is nearly equal to the speed of flux-limited heat conduction. On the other hand, induced electric field estimated from the anomalous resistivity is 3.3 × 107 V at the termination of the present simulation, under the modest initial current of 1.5 A m–2.X-ray emissions expected from the present model loop, show three sources, two footpoints with unequal brightness and a coronal source expanding along the loop in both directions. 相似文献

The 2B/X2.8 double-ribbon flare of 30 March, 1982 is investigated using H, white light, X-rays, and microwaves. The X-ray burst seems to consist of two components, i.e., an impulsive component showing a long chain of peaks and a thermal component (T 2 × 107 K).In the early phase, the source images for the impulsive component were available simultaneously at soft (7–14 keV) and hard (20–40 keV) X-rays. Both sources are elongated along a neutral line. The core of the source for the hard X-rays is located at one end which seems to be a footpoint (or a leg) of a loop or arcade, while the core for the soft X-rays is located at the center of the elongated source which would be the center of the loop. The core for the hard X-rays shifted to this center in the main and later phase, accompanied by decrease in the source size in the later phase.A peak of one-directional intensity distribution at 35 GHz always lies on the core of the hard X-ray source, showing a shift of the position synchronous with the hard X-ray core. This may imply a common source for the radio waves and the hard X-rays.The source of the thermal component observed at the soft X-rays (7–14 keV) after the early phase covers a whole H patches. This may imply a physical relation between the thermal X-ray loops and the H brightening. 相似文献
