For a magnetic target, the spatial magnetic signal can be expressed as a convolutional integral over Green's function of an assumed model with susceptibility as its parameter. A filter can be used to obtain the susceptibility by minimizing the mismatch between observed and the computed magnetic anomalies. In this perspective, we report the development of an advanced digital filter, which is efficient and can be used to map rock susceptibility from the acquired magnetic data. To design the new filter, we modified the space‐domain standard Wiener–Hopf filter by imposing two different constraints: (i) the filter energy constraint; and (ii) normalization of the filter coefficients. These constraints make it capable to characterize source bodies from their produced magnetic anomalies. We assume that the magnetic data are produced by induced magnetization only and interpretation can be as good as the subsurface model. Our technique is less sensitive to the data noise, which makes it efficient in enhancing the interpretation model. The modified filter demonstrates its applicability over the synthetic data with additive white Gaussian noise. In order to check the efficacy and adaptivity of this tool in a more realistic perspective, it is also tested on the real magnetic data acquired over a kimberlitic district adjoining to the western margin of the Cuddapah Basin in India to identify the source bodies from the anomalies. Our result shows that the modified Wiener–Hopf filter with the constraint for the magnetic data is more stable and efficient than the standard Wiener–Hopf filter.  相似文献

Variability of Sea level and its steric contribution in the Tropical Indian Ocean (TIO) was studied based on 15?years (1993?C2007) satellite altimeter observations of sea surface height (SSH) anomaly and steric height (STH) anomaly computed using temperature and salinity fields obtained from Simple Ocean Data Assimilation (SODA) product. Complex Empirical Orthogonal Function (CEOF) analysis was carried out to decompose variability of SSH and STH into various modes to examine the coherency between them. It is revealed that both the parameters exhibit variability in all the time scales. First three major modes of CEOF corresponds to 90% and 84% of the total variability of SSH and STH respectively. There exists strong coherence between the respective CEOF modes of SSH and STH. The first mode of CEOF contributes around ~50% of the total signal corresponds to the annual cycle exhibit large variability in the western Arabian Sea along the Somali and Arabia Coast, latitudinal strip between 2 and 10°N extending from Somali-coast to the west coast of India, coastal oceans around India, and the south eastern TIO. The second CEOF with 25% of total signal contains mixed signature of intra-seasonal and inter-annual periodicities. This exhibit large amplitude in the central south TIO, western and eastern parts of Equatorial Indian Ocean (EIO). Computed long term linear growth rate of sea level anomaly suggests that increase of sea level varies from small (1?C3?mm?yr?1) in the north TIO to large (8?mm?yr?1) in the south TIO. Further analysis suggests that SSH trend in the south TIO was mostly governed by steric contribution while the variability of SSH trend in the north TIO could be explained partially by the variability in STH.  相似文献

Petrographic and EPMA studies reveal the presence of discrete grains of uraninite and pyrite are being reported for the first time in quartz-pebble conglomerates from western margin of Bonai granite pluton, Sundargarh district, Orissa. Uraninite grains (2–3 μ in size) are subrounded to muffin shaped which show variation in UO2 (63.86 to 71.73 wt %), ThO2 (5.48 to 6.42 wt %) and RE2O3 (1.57 to 2.23 wt %). Pegmatitic source of uraninite is revealed by comparing UO2, ThO2, PbO, CaO content and ratios of UO2/ThO2 and CaO/ThO2 in uraninites from pegmatite and other environments and areas. Subrounded to muffin shape of uraninite, their association with subrounded pyrite and heavies like zircon, tourmaline, chromite, monazite, magnetite and their comparable chemistry with well established quartzpebble conglomerates of India and world are indicative of their detrital origin. Pyrite, minor chalcopyrite and rare galena are observed as sulphide phases in conglomerate. Variable shapes of pyrite, their low Co (up to 0.16 wt %) and Ni contents (up to 0.09 wt %) and Co/Ni ratio less than 1.0 (mean= 0.63) favours sedimentary/diagenetic origin.  相似文献

This paper presents results from a series of laboratory plate load tests carried out in unit cell tanks to investigate the improvement in stiffness, load carrying capacity and resistance to bulging of stone columns installed in soft soils. A new method of reinforcing the stone columns with vertical nails installed along the circumference of the stone column is suggested for improving the performance of these columns. Tests were carried out with two types of loading (1) the entire area in the unit cell tank loaded, to estimate the stiffness of improved ground and (2) only the stone column loaded, to estimate the limiting axial capacity. It is found that stone columns reinforced with vertical nails along the circumference have much higher load carrying capacity and undergo lesser compression and lesser lateral bulging as compared to conventional stone columns. The benefit of vertical circumferential nails increases with increase in the diameter, number and depth of embedment of the nails. The improvement in the performance of stone column was found to be more significant, even with lower area ratio. It is found that reinforcing stone column with vertical circumferential nails at the top portion to a depth equal to three times the diameter of stone columns, will be adequate to prevent the column from excessive bulging and to improve its load carrying capacity substantially.  相似文献

To study the impact of salt water intrusion on two types of soils from west coast region of India were investigated in the laboratory. The key characteristics evaluated included Atterberg limits, compaction characteristics, hydraulic conductivity and chemical characteristics of selected soils. The sea at this coast receives effluent from different points and hence the characteristics change with time and locality. Therefore, to maintain uniform composition, 0.5 N sodium chloride solution (NaCl) was prepared in the laboratory and batch tests were used to determine the immediate effect on soils. Soil specimens were prepared by mixing the soils with 0.5 N NaCl in the increments of 0, 5, 10 and 20% by weight to vary the degree of contamination. Experimental results of soils mixed with 0.5 N NaCl showed that the maximum dry density increases and the optimum moisture content (OMC) decreases with increasing sodium chloride concentration. The study also revealed that the hydraulic conductivity of the soils tested increases with increase in sodium chloride concentration. The Atterberg limits of contaminated specimens show a remarkable change when compared with uncontaminated specimens.  相似文献

A major component of flood alert broadcasting is the short-term prediction of extreme rainfall events, which remains a challenging task, even with the improvements of numerical weather prediction models. Such prediction is a high priority research challenge, specifically in highly urbanized areas like Mumbai, India, which is extremely prone to urban flooding. Here, we attempt to develop an algorithm based on a machine learning technique, support vector machine (SVM), to predict extreme rainfall with a lead time of 6–48 h in Mumbai, using mesoscale (20–200 km) and synoptic scale (200–2,000 km) weather patterns. The underlying hypothesis behind this algorithm is that the weather patterns before (6–48 h) extreme events are significantly different from those of normal weather days. The present algorithm attempts to identify those specific patterns for extreme events and applies SVM-based classifiers for extreme rainfall classification and prediction. Here, we develop the anomaly frequency method (AFM), where the predictors (and their patterns) for SVM are identified with the frequency of high anomaly values of weather variables at different pressure levels, which are present before extreme events, but absent for non-extreme conditions. We observe that weather patterns before the extreme rainfall events during nighttime (1800 to 0600Z) is different from those during daytime (0600 to 1800Z) and, accordingly, we develop a two-phase support vector classifier for extreme prediction. Though there are false alarms associated with this prediction method, the model predicts all the extreme events well in advance. The performance is compared with the state-of-the-art statistical technique fingerprinting approach and is observed to be better in terms of false alarm and prediction.  相似文献

Although sporadic mining of placer gold from river beds is not uncommon in India, there is no documented literature on the occurrence of gold in the beach placer sand deposits of the country. While characterizing the heavy minerals of the Chavakkad-Ponnani (CP) beach placer sands along the North Kerala coast, the association of gold with the pyriboles in these sands has been observed. A native gold grain of about 25 μm was seen to occur as an inclusion within an amphibole of hornblendic composition. The pyriboles of the CP deposit are angular to sub-angular indicating a nearby provenance that may be in the upstream reaches of the Ponnani River in the districts of Malappuram and Palakkad or further north in the auriferous tracts of the Wynad-Nilambur or Attapadi regions. It is argued that the occurrence of native gold in CP deposit is not a freak occurrence and that it warrants thorough investigation of all the pyribole-ilmenite-rich placers to examine the possible presence of gold and its abundance in the beach placers of northern Kerala coast.  相似文献

Coal samples collected from four different sources in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, northeast India, have been investigated for their sulfur content, mineral matter, and to assess their potential behavior upon beneficiation. These coals contain high sulfur which occurs both in organic and inorganic forms. The organic sulfur content is much higher than the inorganic sulfur. Studies on different size and gravity fractions indicated that the mineral phases are concentrated in higher density fractions (d > 1.8) and in general are fine grained (<50 μm). Data of reflected-light optical microscope and electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) revealed that minerals in these coals are sulfides-pyrite, marcasite, sphalerite, pentlandite; sulfates-barite, jarosite; oxides-hematite, rutile; hydroxides-gibbsite, goethite; phosphate-monazite; carbonate-calcite, siderite and silicates-quartz, mica, chlorite, and kaolinitic clay. The disulfides of iron occur in two modes — mainly pyrite and occasionally marcasite with wide size ranges and in various forms, such as: framboid, colloidal precipitate, colloform-banded, fine disseminations, discrete grains, dendritic (feathery), recrystallized, nuggets, discoidal, massive, cavity-fracture- and cleat-fillings. Framboidal pyrite has formed primarily due to biological activities of sulfur reducing bacteria in the early stages of coalification. Massive and other varieties have formed at later stages due to coalescence and recrystallization of the earlier formed pyrites. Sulfur isotopic values indicate a biogenic origin for the pyrites. Association of trace metals, such as Ni, and Zn has been recorded in these pyrites. Given the large fractions of organic sulfur present, these coals can be upgraded only partially to reduce the sulfur content by beneficiation.  相似文献

India Meteorological Department (IMD) introduced the objective tropical cyclone (TC) intensity forecast valid for next 24 h over the north Indian Ocean (NIO) in 2003 and extended up to 72 h in 2009. In this study, an attempt is made to evaluate the TC intensity forecast issued by IMD during 2005–2011 (7 years) by calculating the absolute error (AE), root mean square error (RMSE) and skill in intensity forecast in terms of maximum sustained surface wind (MSW). The accuracy of TC intensity forecast has been analysed with respect to basin of formation (Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and NIO as whole), season of formation (pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons), intensity of TCs (cyclonic storm and severe cyclonic storm or higher intensities) and type of track of TCs (climatological/straight moving and recurving/looping type). The study shows that the average AE (RMSE) in intensity forecast is about 11(14), 14(19) and 20(26) knots, respectively, for 24-, 48- and 72-h forecasts over the NIO as a whole during 2009–2011. The skill of intensity forecast is about 44 %(48 %), 60 %(58 %) and 60 %(65 %) for 24-, 48- and 72-h forecasts during 2009–2011 with respect to AE (RMSE). There is no significant improvement in terms of reduction in AE and RMSE of MSW forecast over the NIO like that over the northwest Pacific and northern Atlantic Oceans during 2005–2011. However, the skill in intensity forecast compared to persistence method has significantly improved by about 6 %(10 %) and 9 %(8 %) per year, respectively, for 12- and 24-h forecasts considering the AE (RMSE) during 2005–2011. There is also significant increasing trend in percentage of 24-h intensity forecasts with error of 10 knots or less during 2005–2011.  相似文献
