Water is one of the basic and fundamental requirements for the survival of human beings. Mining of the sulphide mines usually produce a significant amount of acid mine drainage (AMD) contributing to huge amounts of chemical components and heavy metals in the receiving waters. Prediction of the heavy metals in the AMD is important in developing any appropriate remediation strategy. This paper attempts to predict heavy metals (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn) from the AMD using backpropagation neural network (BPNN), general regression neural network (GRNN) and multiple linear regression (MLR), by taking pH, sulphate (SO4) and magnesium (Mg) concentrations in the AMD into account in Shur River, Sarcheshmeh porphyry copper deposit, southeast Iran. The comparison between the predicted concentrations and the measured data resulted in the correlation coefficients, R, 0.92, 0.22, 0.92 and 0.92 for Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn ions using BPNN method. Moreover, the R values were 0.89, 0.37, 0.9 and 0.91 for Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn taking the GRNN method into consideration. However, the correlation coefficients were low for the results predicted by MLR method (0.83, 0.14, 0.9 and 0.85 for Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn ions, respectively). The results further indicate that the ANN can be used as a viable method to rapidly and cost-effectively predict heavy metals in the AMD. The results obtained from this paper can be considered as an easy and cost-effective method to monitor groundwater and surface water affected by AMD.  相似文献

Spatiotemporal variables constitute a large class of geohydrological phenomena. Estimation of these variables requires the extension of geostatistical tools into the space-time domain. Before applying these techniques to space-time data, a number of important problems must be addressed. These problems can be grouped into four general categories: (1) fundamental differences with respect to spatial problems, (2) data characteristics, (3) structural analysis including valid models, and (4) space-time kriging. Adequate consideration of these problems leads to more appropriate estimation techniques for spatiotemporal data.  相似文献

Drought is one of the most important natural hazards in Iran. Therefore, drought monitoring has become a point of concern for most of the researchers. In the present study, the changes and trend of drought was surveyed, under the current global climate changes, by non parametric Mann–Kendall statistical test for 42 synoptic stations at different places of Iran. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was calculated to recognize the drought condition at different time scales (3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months’ time series) for analyzing the drought trend in the recent 30 years. The obtained results have indicated a significant negative trend of drought in many parts of Iran, especially the South-East, West and South-West regions of the country. According to the results, although some parts of Iran such as North (around the Caspian Sea) and Northeast show no significant trend but in other parts of country, the severity of drought has increased during the last 30 years.  相似文献

The present study tends to describe the survey of climatic changes in the case of the eastern and central areas of Iran and, to some extent, the northern parts. The monthly and yearly change trends in the minimum, maximum and mean temperatures, relative humidity, and the precipitation were surveyed for 26 synoptic stations in Iran during a 55-year period. The study was carried out by using the ??-Kendall test. The results showed the same temperature changes for the centrally located stations as the eastern and northern ones. Most of the stations in Zagros showed no significant temperature changes. A significant decrease in the precipitation was seen in summer in different stations. Most of the eastern and centrally located stations showed a decrease in relative humidity trend, while this condition was not recorded in Zagros and northern part of Iran. The present results also showed that the upward trend of minimum air temperature had an effect in increasing the mean air temperature in the stations with temperature ascending trend. This effect of minimum temperature was significantly more than that of the maximum temperature, which could be the result of increasing the amount of greenhouse gases and the reflection of received thermal energies, from land through the night. This increase in the temperature and a decrease in relative humidity would cause an increase in the evaporation of the received precipitation.  相似文献

Detecting the paleoseismological specifications as well as seismic capability of faults has specific importance in estimating the earthquake hazard in any region. The geomorphic indices are used as indirect procedures in the mountainous area. They are appropriate and applicable methods in recognizing the specifications of active tectonics and evaluating fault seismicity in the mountainous areas. In this regard, giant landslides can be pointed out as proper indices. These landslides are usually related to tectonics and triggered by earthquakes in many cases. In this research, giant landslides existed in Noor valley (central Alborz) have been considered as geomorphological indices for recognizing the seismicity of the region and the seismic capability of its faults. There are four giant landslides in this region (Baladeh, Razan, Vakamar, and Iva) used for the mentioned purpose. No historical earthquake has been reported around Noor valley. However, the existence of giant and old landslides, related to earthquake, indicates the occurrence of numerous prehistoric earthquakes. In this research, three different age classes have been determined (Late Holocene, Early Holocene, and Late Pleistocene) for landslides. By the way, the possibility of identifying multiple earthquakes is provided in this area. The magnitudes of earthquakes are estimated as 7.7 ± 0.49 to 7.9 ± 0.49 based on their relations with maximum volume of displaced material. Regarding the distribution of landslides and other evidences, the eastern segment of Baladeh fault has probably been the main cause of the earthquakes.  相似文献

As a generalization of the Brans-Dicke type scalar-tensor gravity in a braneworld context, we study cosmological phase space of a braneworld model with induced gravity in the presence of a scalar field on the brane. We consider a quintom field minimally or non-minimally coupled to induced gravity on the warped DGP brane and we present a detailed analysis of the critical points, their stability and late-time cosmological viability of the solutions within a phase space approach. In particular, de Sitter solutions, different from the famous self-accelerated branch of the DGP model are found and the phase-space analysis for checking their attractor properties is performed. We analyze also the possibility of crossing of the phantom divide by the effective equation of state parameter of the model. We also focus on the classical stability of the solutions in ww′ phase plane.  相似文献

Diesel oil is one of the derivatives of crude oil which resistance to biodegradation due to its complex structure and low solubility in water. A novel concept of enhancement of diesel degradation using floating water droplet is proposed and being investigated to address some key challenges encountered in diesel oil spillages in the aqueous area and wetlands. This study aims to increase the floatability of a floating water droplet on oil. A droplet containing a mixed consortium of 60 different hydrocarbon degrading bacteria and sodium dodecyl sulfate as a surfactant was deposited on the diesel oil surface. Contact angle and contact radius were monitored to observe the effect of bacterial activities on the droplet. The behavior of this droplet on diesel oil was different to a previous study with paraffin oil. In particular, the floatability, bacterial growth and biofilm formation demonstrate significant deviation due to the diesel interactions with biological processes. Nevertheless, the results show this method increase microbial activities within the droplet. The result verifies the applicability of the floating water droplet as an environmentally friendly method for diesel oil spillages.  相似文献

Interrill soil erosion processes and their interaction on low slopes   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Soil erosion by water is mostly the result of rainfall‐driven and runoff‐driven processes taking place simultaneously during a storm event. However, the effect of interaction between these two erosion processes has received limited attention. Most laboratory experiments indicate that the rate of erosion in a rain‐impacted flow is greater than for un‐impacted flows of similar depth and velocity; however, negative interaction between the two processes has also been reported. There is no provision for any such interaction in any of the current erosion models. This paper reports on the results of a number of exact experiments on three soil types carried out in the flume of Griffith University's large rainfall simulator to study interaction between rain and runoff processes. The results show that interaction is generally positive under approximately steady state condition and there is very limited sign of negative interaction reported by others. Results provide strong evidence that raindrops continuously peel fine sediment from larger stable aggregates. This mechanism could be the reason for positive interaction during simultaneous rainfall and flow driven erosion in well aggregated soils as a result of increased fine particles in the eroded sediment. Strong positive interaction between rain and runoff erosion also occurs for medium to large aggregates. This strongly suggests that mechanisms that are not well understood are operational. It is quite possible that particle movement can be stimulated by rolling or creeping in a size‐selective manner. Indeed, such additional mechanisms may well be largely responsible for the positive interaction observed between rain and surface flow. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
