A phenomenological model based on a linear relationship between the magnetic coercivity field and the reciprocal of the grain diameter is applied to explain the anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM) imparted to artificial samples with different concentrations of a very well characterized magnetite powder. By analyses of scanning electron microscopy images, the spherically shaped single domain synthetic magnetite is found to follow a lognormal grain size distribution with ~86 nm of mean diameter. The proposed model, fitted to ARM measurements up to a peak alternating field of 100 mT, yields a very good agreement. The coercivity behaviour predicted by micromagnetism theory disagrees with the experimental results of this work. A likely explanation for the discrepancy is that the magnetite particles, which consist of a mixture of grains in coherent rotation and curling modes, produce similar observations as domain processes.  相似文献

Crawford et al. (Boundary-Layer Meteorol 66:237–245, 1993) showed that the time average is inappropriate for airborne eddy-covariance flux calculations. The aircraft’s ground speed through a turbulent field is not constant. One reason can be a correlation with vertical air motion, so that some types of structures are sampled more densely than others. To avoid this, the time-sampled data are adjusted for the varying ground speed so that the modified estimates are equivalent to spatially-sampled data. A comparison of sensible heat-flux calculations using temporal and spatial averaging methods is presented and discussed. Data of the airborne measurement systems $\hbox {M}^2\hbox {AV}$ , Helipod and Dornier 128-6 are used for the analysis. These systems vary in size, weight and aerodynamic characteristics, since the $\hbox {M}^2\hbox {AV}$ is a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the Helipod a helicopter-borne turbulence probe and the Dornier 128-6 a manned research aircraft. The systematic bias anticipated in covariance computations due to speed variations was neither found when averaging over Dornier, Helipod nor UAV flight legs. However, the random differences between spatial and temporal averaging fluxes were found to be up to 30 % on the individual flight legs.  相似文献

Numerous species are expanding their ranges towards the North Pole, a pattern that is usually explained with climate change. However, few studies have actually tested the potential role of climate in such range expansions. Here, we studied the wasp spider Argiope bruennichi, which has multiplied its range in Central and Northern Europe during the 20th century and is still spreading. Using current and historical climate data, we analysed whether this spread can be explained by climate warming, increasing cold tolerance or if it is unrelated to temperature. Spatial partial regression showed that the spread of A. bruennichi into formerly cooler areas is independent of spatial autocorrelation, indicating that it is driven by temperature. Some aspects of the spread, as e.g. the patchy distribution at the beginning of the century are likely to be relicts of climate fluctuations before our study period. From the middle of the 20th century until the 1980s, A. bruennichi was recorded from gradually cooler climates, while temperature was relatively constant. This indicates that A. bruennichi either increased its cold tolerance or that the spread continued with a time lag following an earlier warming event, due to dispersal limitation. In the last two decades, temperature rose sharply. The temperatures at which A. bruennichi was newly recorded increased as well, indicating that the spider is dispersal limited and that the spread will continue even in the absence of further climate warming.  相似文献

Clinopyroxene phenocrysts from the mafic calc-alkaline lavas of Salina (Aeolian arc, southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) have been analysed to determine the hydrogen content and iron oxidation state of this early crystallized phase. The volcanic activity of Salina, starting at 168 ka and developed in several centres up to 24 ka, was dominated by calc-alkaline and high-K calc-alkaline basalts and andesites, with minor dacites and rhyolites. The presence of OH vibrational bands was detected in the IR spectra of clinopyroxenes phenocrysts from Corvo, Rivi-Capo (168–87 ka), Fossa delle Felci (108–59 ka) and Monte dei Porri (57 ka) eruptions. Corvo-Rivi-Capo basalts have clinopyroxenes with the lowest water contents 75–97 ppm H2O by weight, whereas an increase in the hydrogen contents of clinopyroxenes from Fossa delle Felci centre, with 171–286 ppm H2O by weight, and Monte dei Porri with 343–390 ppm H2O by weight, was observed. Mössbauer spectroscopy showed only a limited variation on the Fe3+/Fetot ratio of the studied samples, and a very similar atomic Fe3+ content (0.042–0.047 a.p.f.u.) suggesting that only minor variation on fO2 occurred during the crystallization of these clinopyroxenes. The water content of parental melts, calculated by applying an IVAl-dependent partition coefficient to the measured hydrogen contents of clinopyroxenes, is 0.4–0.8 wt% of water in melt for the Rivi-Capo-Corvo basalts, 0.5–3.7 wt% water in melt for Fossa delle Felci lavas and 1.6–2.6 wt% of water in melt for Monte dei Porri lavas. An increase in the maximum hydrogen contents of clinopyroxenes can be recognized during the evolution of the Salina volcano, with the highest hydrogen content measured in clinopyroxenes from Monte dei Porri where the eruptions were characterized by a high degree of explosivity, suggesting a key role of volatiles.  相似文献

Groundwater-surface water interactions (GSI) connect rivers and streams with riparian areas and the adjacent aquifer. Although these interactions exert a substantial control of quantity and quality of both groundwater and surface water, knowledge on GSI along rivers at the regional scale, particularly for inland waterways, is still limited. We investigated GSI along the river Moselle, an important federal inland waterway in Germany, by using radon and tritium to identify gaining (water flux from the aquifer to the surface water) and losing (water flux from the surface water to the aquifer) stream conditions, respectively. Gaining stream conditions were identified by continuously measuring radon along the river during boat surveys with a high spatial resolution (every 2 km) during intermediate (October 2020) and near low flow conditions (August/September 2021). The tritium concentrations in surface water and groundwater and the resulting tritium inventories were used to characterize losing stream conditions Monthly tritium inventories from 2017 to 2022 revealed a mean loss for the whole period of 20.3 % and a mean gain of 21.8%. Both were probably triggered by a combination of losing stream conditions and flood-induced mass transfer of water from the aquifer back into the river as well as discharge fluctuations. At the investigated site Lehmen there were direct indications of an influence of surface water due to elevated tritium concentrations in the groundwater (up to 13.3 Bq L−1). Using radon mass balance modelling, good agreements of simulated versus measured radon data with respect to two groundwater end-member scenarios were obtained during intermediate flow (Spearman's ρ: 0.97 and 0.99; MAE: 10.1 and 3.4 Bq L−1) and near low flow (Spearman's ρ: 0.97 and 0.99; MAE: 11 and 6.5 Bq L−1). Considerable groundwater inflow was limited to the meander of Detzem, where cumulated groundwater inflow of about 19 m3 s−1 (9.5% of total discharge) and 4.2 m3 s−1 (3.8% of total discharge) was simulated during intermediate and near low flow, respectively. However, the groundwater inflow was relatively low compared to alpine streams, for example. The study will help to better identify and quantify GSI at the regional scale and provide methodological guidance for future studies focusing on inland waterways.  相似文献
