This paper provides data on variations in the contents of As, Sb, Ni, V, Pb, Cu, Cr, Au, Zn, Sc, and Al, measured in the thalli of a saxicolous lichen species,Xanthoria calcicola Ochsner s.l., collected in northeastern Sicily, near an industrial zone and along a belt crossing areas of known ores containing sulfides of heavy metals. A total of 91 lichen samples were collected on roof tiles (39) and on rocks (52). In the industrial zone, analysis of lichen thalli revealed high contents of nickel and vanadium, decreasing at increasing distances from the source of contamination. The results have also revealed the versatility ofXanthoria calcicola in geochemical prospecting for heavy metals such as Pb, Zn, As, Au, Sb, Ni, V, and Cu. The contents of these elements in the analyzed lichens highlight the same geochemical associations observed in prospecting surveys on samples of river sediments and identify similar anomalies. Interpretation of data in terms of enrichment factors (EFs) turned out to be particularly useful.  相似文献

Karst systems provide water for domestic and industrial uses and for generating hydropower, but they can also create fluvial hazards, such as upstream back‐flooding and downstream karst flash‐flood events. However, these hazards are difficult to foresee due to the complex recharge‐discharge processes as well as the lack of information on the inside of the system, which has often not been completely surveyed by speleologists or explored by boreholes. To overcome these difficulties, hydro‐chemical data from the monitoring system in the Middle Bussento Karst System (MBSKS), one of the first Experimental Karst Systems in southern Italy, were recorded and previously discussed. Based on shared background in flood karst hydraulic modeling, this paper describes the conceptual premises and rationale of a general‐purpose hydraulic model that is suitable both for the MBSKS and for other Mediterranean, multi‐recharge, mature, conduit‐dominated karst systems. To test the reliability of the model, simulations of time–space behavior and response are performed using natural and artificial flood pulses “as tracers”, considering a “pulse” as a significant variation in water quantity and/or quality. The results of the model explain the interactions between allogenic, autogenic, and anthropogenic recharges from differentiated sources and phreatic conduit systems. The diameter of the Sun may be measured at the time of a solar eclipse. We have performed an exhaustive search of the astronomical literature to find all existing observations of solar eclipses suitable for this purpose. We have also taken new observations by new techniques. We have undertaken a project to reduce them systematically, and in an automated, self-consistent way. This will produce determinations of the solar radius at the times of solar eclipses from 1715 to the present. Re-reduction, using newer ephemerides, of observations made in 1984 shows that the component of the residuals caused by the ephemeris is substantially reduced. This paper summarizes the research plan, outlines the detailed astronomical features included in the calculations, and presents the results available.  相似文献

Based on the structural analysis of the ‘Internal’ Units cropping out in the Cilento area (southern Italy), this article provides new geodynamic constraints on the Miocene tectonic evolution of the southern Apennine accretionary wedge. The studied sedimentary successions, forming part of the tectonically superposed Nord-Calabrese (in the hanging-wall) and Parasicilide Units, are characterized by three superposed fold sets. The analysis of the attitudes of the main structures allowed us to unravel the shortening directions experienced by the accretionary wedge in the Miocene time. The reconstructed deformation sequence, characterized by initial NW-SE shortening and subsequently by west-east and NE-SW shortening, is related to the inclusion of the studied successions into the accretionary wedge and to their subsequent tectonic emplacement on top of outer domains of the foreland plate. Accretionary wedge overthickening and uplift, probably associated with footwall imbrication involving carbonate units of the foreland plate, was followed by wedge thinning, which also enhanced the creation of accommodation space in wedge-top basin depocentres.  相似文献

In the past decades, flow‐like catastrophic landslides caused many victims and important economic damage around the world. It is therefore important to predict their path, velocity and depth in order to provide adequate mitigation and protection measures. This paper presents a model that incorporates coupling between pore pressures and the solid skeleton inside the avalanching mass. A depth‐integrated, coupled, mathematical model is derived from the velocity–pressure version of the Biot–Zienkiewicz model, which is used in soil dynamics. The equations are complemented with simple rheological equations describing soil behaviour and are discretized using the SPH method. The accuracy of the model is assessed using a series of benchmarks, and then it is applied to back‐analyse the propagation stage of some catastrophic flow‐like slope movements for which field data are available. The LARAM School is managed by the Geotechnical Engineering Group (GEG) of the University of Salerno, which recently became an Associate member of the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL). —We use advanced methods to extract quantitative time dynamics from geomagnetic signals. In particular we analyse daily geomagnetic time series measured at three stations in Norway. The dynamics of geomagnetic measurements has been investigated using autoregressive models. The procedure is based on two forecasting approaches: the global autoregressive approximation and the local autoregressive approximation. The first technique views the data as a realisation of a linear stochastic process, whereas the second considers them as a realisation of a deterministic process, supposedly non-linear. The comparison of the predictive skill of the two techniques is a strong test to discriminate between low-dimensional chaos and stochastic dynamics. Our findings suggest that the physical system governing the phenomena is characterised by a stochastic dynamics, and the process could be described by numerous degrees of freedom. We also investigated the kind of stochasticity of the geomagnetic signals, analysing the power spectrum density. We identify a power law P(?)∝?, with the scaling exponent α which is a typical fingerprint of irregular processes. In this analysis we use the Higuchi method, which presents an interesting relationship between the fractal dimension D and the spectral power law scaling index α.  相似文献
