A Kelvin-Helmholtz instability has been identified numerically on an azimuthally symmetric Alfvén resonant layer in an axially bounded, straight cylindrical coronal loop. The physical model employed is an incompressible, reduced magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model including resistivity, viscosity, and density variation. The set of equations is solved numerically as an initial value problem. The linear growth rate of this instability is shown to be approximately proportional to the Alfvén driving amplitude and inversely proportional to the width of the Alfvén resonant layer. It is also shown that the linear growth rate increases linearly with m - 1 up to a certain m, reaches its maximum value for the mode whose half wavelength is comparable to the Alfvén resonant layer width, and decreases at higher m's. High resolution OVRO CO 1–0 observations of the inner 30 in the LINER galaxy NGC 5218 reveal the presence of a double centrally peaked molecular concentration with extensions out to a radius of 12. The molecular mass detected is 2.4 × 109 M and the gas surface density is high, 3000 M pc square in the inner 500 pc. The SFR is 2–3 M yr–1 and the SFE is 13, which are low or moderate values for that gas surface density. We interpret the inner feature as a rotating molecular ring with a radius of 200 pc. We furthermore suggest that the LINER activity in NGC 5218 is not caused by an aging starburst, but by a buried AGN. 相似文献

The law of rotation as well as the corresponding meridional circulations in the hydrogen convection zone (HCZ) are investigated by solving numerically the time independent Navier-Stokes equations. The HCZ is assumed to be a spherical layer of fluid with constant density and viscosity. It is assumed further that the viscosity is caused by unisotropic turbulent motions.The results show differential rotation together with circulations. The detailed behaviour depends on a parameters characterizing the nonisotropic friction and on the kinematic viscosityv. If the friction is larger in radial direction than in lateral directions (0 s < 1) the poles rotate faster than the equator and the circulation rises at the equator and falls at the poles; if friction is smaller in radial direction (s > 1) the equator rotates faster and the sense of the circulation is reversed. The differential rotation observed at the solar surface is obtained for the values = 1.2.For small values ofv the angular velocity is constant on cylindrical surfaces, for large values ofv it is constant on spherical surfaces. From reflection and refraction data a crustal model of the Concepcion Bank NE of Lanzarote Island has been calculated. It is interpreted as a tectonic unit of volcanic origin. The results of photometric and polarimetric observations of the star Μ Cep at Byurakan Observatory are presented. Some interesting
correlations between the parameters of the star’s brightness variation and the degree of polarization of the light are obtained.
It is suggested that the recorded rapid changes in the degree of polarization may result from Μ Cep being a double star.
