In the field of solar-terrestrial relations a clear and unique terminology is needed in order to abolish and avoid unnecessary confusion between the scientists from several involved disciplines. For example, the widely used abbreviationCME (for coronal mass ejection) has turned out to be somewhat misleading. Early on it had been known that other than coronal material is often involved in such events. The discoverers observed transient events of mass ejections from the sun, which could be observed in the corona owing to the newly available coronagraphs. This article is meant to clarify the terminology, with emphasis on giving credit to the original discoverers and the terms they introduced. With this aim in mind I suggest some minor modifications of the terminology.  相似文献

A stratigraphic model for carbonate platform evolution in the Dolomites during the late Ladinian-early Carnian is presented. New light on pre-Raibl growth of individual carbonate platforms of the western Dolomites was shed by biostratigraphic data combined with a revised lithostratigraphy. At the Schlern, Langkofel and Sella, the carbonate factory (Upper Schlern Dolomite) remained productive into the lowermost Carnian (Cordevolian = Aon Zone), and caused a levelling-out of the former steep platform-to-basin relief. In the eastern Dolomites, platforms were producing till basal Julian 2 (Austriacum Zone). At the Sella and Langkofel, the sedimentation pattern after deposition of the Upper Schlern Dolomite was strongly influenced by synsedimentary tectonics. A first phase of extensional tectonics led to local fissures, block-tilting, graben structures and breccia deposits. Composition and fabric of the reworked clasts argue for local-source sediments and short transport distances. The extensional structures are sealed by sediments of Lower Carnian age. Two facies belts (Schlernplateau beds and Dürrenstein Dolomite), which interfinger at the western side of the Sella, reflect the shallow marine environment with terrigenous-volcanoclastic input in the western Dolomites. A second generation of breccias at the Sella documents local fracturing of the Dürrenstein and Upper Schlern Dolomite. Depositional environments across the western and eastern Dolomites were largely dependent on differential subsidence. The sediments of early Carnian age on top of the Schlern platform are a few metres thick only, whereas, in the eastern Dolomite, up to 400-m-thick carbonate sediments ('Richthofen reef' and Settsass platform) were deposited. The most incomplete stratigraphic record is present at the Mendel platform in the west, where Ladinian volcanics are unconformably overlain by late Carnian 'Raibl beds'. The increase in sediment thickness towards the eastern Dolomites becomes partly visible at the eastern flank of the Sella platform. Differential subsidence across western and eastern Dolomites caused local fracturing of platform sediments. Synsedimentary extensional tectonics was a significant controlling factor to the lithofacies and thickness variations of early Carnian platform sediments in the Dolomites.  相似文献

The laser‐induced breakdown detection (LIBD) is a very sensitive method for the direct detection of colloids based on the plasma generation on single particles by a focused, pulsed laser beam and the detection of the produced shock wave or plasma light emission. For the determination of colloid sizes the light emission of single plasmas is detected by a microscope CCD‐camera system. With known mean particle diameter and breakdown probability the particle concentration can be calculated. The application of the LIBD to monitor the change of colloid concentration and size during the purification steps of drinking water at the Bodensee (Lake Constance, Germany) water purification plant is shown. The breakdown probability, correlating to colloid number density, decreases with every purification step. By addition of FeCl3 as a precipitating agent and with an additional filtration step, not only suspended matter, but also colloids are effectively removed. After this process a remaining particle concentration of 50 ng/L and a mean particle diameter of 27 nm are found.  相似文献

Six C2M chondrites (Boriskino, Cold Bokkeveld, Erakot, Essebi, Haripura and Santa Cruz) and the C2R chondrite Al Rais were analyzed by radiochemical neutron activation analysis for Ag, Au, Bi, Cd, Cs, Ge, In, Ir, Ni, Os, Pd, Rb, Re, Sb, Se, Sn, Te, Tl, U, and Zn. Abundances (relative to Cl chondrites) show a systematic dependence on volatility, apparently reflecting volatile loss during formation of chondrules and other high-T components. Elements of nebular condensation temperature (Tc) > 1200 K are undepleted, those of Tc < 700 K are depleted by a constant factor (0.482 ± 0.049 for C2M's) and elements of intermediate volatility are depleted by intermediate factors. The abundances do not “tend to fall monotonically as a function of [Tc],” as previously claimed by Wai and Wasson (1977) for a more restricted temperature range. For meteorites that have suffered little aqueous alteration (Mighei, Murchison, Murray), the mean abundance of volatiles agrees with the matrix content, but for the more altered meteorites, matrix contents are 20–30% higher. Only a few meteorites deviate appreciably from the mean abundance pattern. Al Rais, a C2R chondrite with a significant metal content, is systematically lower in 12 volatiles, but is enriched in Ni and Pd. Haripura and Erakot are enriched in Bi and Tl, possibly from the late condensate, mysterite.  相似文献

Detailed analyses of melt and fluid inclusions combined with an electron-microprobe survey of boron-bearing minerals reveal the evolution of boron in a highly evolved peraluminous granite-pegmatite complex and the associated high- and medium-temperature ore-forming hydrothermal fluids (Ehrenfriedersdorf, Erzgebirge, Germany). Melt inclusions in granite represent embryonic pegmatite-forming melts containing about 10 wt% H2O and 1.8 wt% B2O3. These melts are also enriched in F, P, and other incompatible elements such as Be, Sn, Rb, and Cs. Ongoing differentiation and volatile enrichment drove the system into a solvus, where two pegmatite-forming melts coexisted. The critical point is at about 712 °C, 100 MPa, 20 wt% H2O and 4.1 wt% B2O3. Cooling and concomitant fractional crystallisation from 700 to 500 °C induced development of two conjugate melts, an H2O-poor (A-melt) and an H2O-rich melt (B-melt) along the opening solvus. Boron is a major element in both melts and is preferentially partitioned into the H2O-rich melt. Temperature-dependent distribution coefficients DboronB - melt/A - melt D_{{\rm{boron}}}^{{\rm{B - melt/A - melt}}} are 1.3 at 650 °C, 1.5 at 600 °C, and 1.8 at 500 °C. In both melts, boron concentrations decreased during cooling because of exsolution of a boron-rich hypersaline brine throughout the pegmatitic stage. Boromuscovite containing up to 8.5 wt% was another sink for boron at this stage. The end of the melt-dominated pegmatitic stage was attained at a solidus temperature of around 490 °C. Fluid inclusions of the hydrothermal stage reveal trapping temperatures of 480 to 370 °C, along with varying densities and highly variable B2O3 contents ranging from 0.20 to 2.94 wt%. A boiling system evolved, indicating a complex interplay between closed- and open-system behaviour. Pressure switched from lithostatic to hydrostatic and back, generating hydrothermal convection cells where meteoric waters were introduced and mixed with magmatic fluids. Boron-rich solutions originated from magmatic fluids, whereas boron-depleted fluids were mainly of meteoric origin. This highlights the potential of boron for discriminating fluids of different origin. Tin is continuously enriched during the evolution because tin and boron are cross-linked by formation of boron-, fluorine- and tin-fluorine-bearing complexes and is finally deposited within quartz-cassiterite veins during the transition from closed- to open-system behaviour. Boron does not only trace the complex evolution of the Ehrenfriedersdorf complex but exerts, together with H2O, F and P, an important control on the physical and chemical properties of pegmatite-forming melts, and particularly on the formation of a two-melt solvus at low pressure. We discuss this with respect to experimental results on H2O solubility and the critical behaviour of the haplogranite-water system which contained variable concentrations of volatiles.  相似文献

 Water mass distributions, upwelling and filament formation are of complex significance for biological and chemical processes. Temperature and salinity are routinely used to characterize these hydrographic conditions. In situ profiles and sample analyses from the cruise So119 of RV Sonne in May 1997 into the Arabian Sea indicate that optical parameters such as the fluorescence of phytoplankton pigments, gelbstoff and proteins reflect hydrographic processes as well, and are useful to describe and explain biochemical processes. The dependence of bio-optical parameters to DOC and chlorophyll a concentrations is examined. While the relation between extracted chlorophyll and chlorophyll fluorescence is quite reasonable, DOC and gelbstoff fluorescence do not show a functional dependency. This is mainly due to sunlight-induced degradation of fluorophores in the surface layer. Enhanced gelbstoff signals in intermediate and deep waters are related to Persian Gulf Water. The optical data reveal a relation between the depth of the chlorophyll maximum, the depth of 1% surface light and the geographical latitude. In the context of remote sensing of phytoplankton biomass from ocean colour images, the depth of the chlorophyll maximum is a crucial parameter. Thus, the revealed dependency on latitude is useful for the evaluation of primary production with satellite remote sensing. The Feldberger Haussee, a highly eutrophic stratified hard-water lake located in the eastern part of Germany's Baltic lake district, was selected for a restoration programme combining external nutrient loading reduction and long-term biomanipulation. In 1980 the external phosphorus loading (1.8 g TP m−2 a−1) decreased by 90%, but water quality did not improve significantly within the following 6 years. In 1985 biomanipulation was initiated, with manual removal of cyprinid fish coupled with piscivore introductions as the principal measures. The expected changes in the pelagic community and improvements of water quality occurred after a delay of several years. Despite intensive manual removal of cyprinids and stocking of piscivores, standing stocks of cyprinid fish remained relatively high (130-260 kg ww ha−1) after some years of decline. Compared to the pre-biomanipulation period, mean seasonal (May-September) Daphnia spp. biomass roughly doubled (0.037 g C m−3vs. 0.084 g C m−3). However, the predominance of small (<1 mm) D. cucullata throughout the whole investigation period indicated that planktivory was still substantial. Paired observations between edible phytoplankton biomass and Daphnia spp. indicated that a significant decline in algal stocks would only occur if herbivorous biomass was above a certain threshold (0.2 g C m−3). Reduced external and internal loading in concert with pelagic calcite precipitation were most likely responsible for the decline in lake phosphorus concentrations, thereby substantially improving the water quality of Feldberger Haussee. Although this is not supported by quantitative evidence, we hypothesize that resource-related water quality improvements were caused by changes in the structure of the pelagic community leading to increased calcite precipitation. In agreement with the results of other investigations, we conclude that because stabilising mechanisms such as macrophyte growth were lacking in Feldberger Haussee, biomanipulation in stratified lakes may not be as successful as has been observed in shallow lakes. However, in hard-water lakes, calcite precipitation may act as another stabilising resource-related mechanism. Phosphorus associated with sedimenting calcite particles is insensitive to redox-conditions and may therefore not be re-mobilised from lake sediments even if hypolimnetic oxygen is depleted.  相似文献
