Intense geomagnetic storms with DST index -100 nT were recorded on 9 March and 11 March 1993 associated with solar activity on 6 March and 9-10 March, respectively. In this paper, we discuss the characteristic features of the solar origins of the two events that gave rise to coronal and interplanetary disturbances and as a consequence produced strong geomagnetic activity at the Earth. The source of the activity in one case is attributed to a major 3M7.0 flare that occurred on 6 March 1993 and in the other case, to two large filament disruptions on the disk during 9-10 March, 1993. Both these sources were found to be located near changing or varying low-latitude coronal holes. They were also located close to the heliospheric currents sheets. Distinct X-ray activity was observed for both the events as observed by the Yohkoh SXT telescope. The detailed evolution and a comparison of these events on the basis of Yohkoh soft X-ray observations are presented here. 相似文献

We present new near-IR and mid-IR images of relatively isolated massive star forming regions with a special emphasis on the candidate precursors to ultra-compact HII regions. These images reveal compact, almost circularly symmetric young stellar clusters, dominated by a single luminous massive member. The clusters indicate flattened structures and dynamically unrelaxed states. In 4 of these young clusters we have discovered a nearly centrally located, prominent dark region visible at 2μm. 10μm images show examples where the dark region is associated with embedded luminous members of the cluster, as well as cases with no central 10μm source. The dark patches without embedded sources could be dense cores surviving inside the (proto?)clusters or left over wreckage from cluster formation. In this paper we discuss the main-phase evolution of intense magnetic storms, associated with the passage of different interplanetary magnetic structures. It is shown that their evolution, driven by intense magnetic fields in the sheath region just behind interplanetary shocks, evolves faster (implying physically different magnetospheric configurations) than that associated with intense magnetic fields in the ejecta itself and in corotating streams. The estimated ring-current injection rate for the main phase of intense magnetic storms caused by sheath fields is ~10 times greater than the estimated injection rate for N–S magnetic clouds. Based on these results, we propose storm-intensity criteria for several classes of the driving interplanetary structures. The time necessary to reach a Dst/SYM index threshold level is an important parameter for a space weather forecast. 相似文献

We numerically model the evolution of dust in a protoplanetary disk using a two-phase (gas+dust) Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics
(SPH) code, which is non-self-gravitating and locally isothermal. The code follows the three dimensional distribution of dust
in a protoplanetary disk as it interacts with the gas via aerodynamic drag. In this work, we present the evolution of a disk
comprising 1% dust by mass in the presence of an embedded planet for two different disk configurations: a small, minimum mass
solar nebular (MMSN) disk and a larger, more massive Classical T Tauri star (CTTS) disk. We then vary the grain size and planetary
mass to see how they effect the resulting disk structure.
We find that gap formation is much more rapid and striking in the dust layer than in the gaseous disk and that a system with
a given stellar, disk and planetary mass will have a different appearance depending on the grain size and that such differences
will be detectable in the millimetre domain with ALMA. For low mass planets in our MMSN models, a gap can open in the dust
disk while not in the gas disk. We also note that dust accumulates at the external edge of the planetary gap and speculate
that the presence of a planet in the disk may facilitate the growth of planetesimals in this high density region. 相似文献

In this work we consider the Kepler problem with linear drag, and prove the existence of a continuous vector-valued first integral, obtained taking the limit as \(t\rightarrow +\infty \) of the Runge–Lenz vector. The norm of this first integral can be interpreted as an asymptotic eccentricity \(e_{\infty }\) with \(0\le e_{\infty } \le 1\). The orbits satisfying \(e_{\infty } <1\) approach the singularity by an elliptic spiral and the corresponding solutions \(x(t)=r(t)e^{i\theta (t)}\) have a norm r(t) that goes to zero like a negative exponential and an argument \(\theta (t)\) that goes to infinity like a positive exponential. We explore the likelihood that early remains of Earth, Mars, and Venus have been preserved on the Moon in high enough concentrations to motivate a search mission. During the Late Heavy Bombardment, the inner planets experienced frequent large impacts. Material ejected by these impacts near the escape velocity would have had the potential to land and be preserved on the surface of the Moon. Such ejecta could yield information on the geochemical and biological state of early Earth, Mars, and Venus. To determine whether the Moon has preserved enough ejecta to justify a search mission, we calculate the amount of terran material incident on the Moon over its history by considering the distribution of ejecta launched from the Earth by large impacts. In addition, we make analogous estimates for Mars and Venus. We find, for a well-mixed regolith, that the median surface abundance of terran material is roughly 7 ppm, corresponding to a mass of approximately 20,000 kg of terran material over a 10×10-square-km area. Over the same area, the amount of material transferred from Venus is 1-30 kg and material from Mars as much as 180 kg. Given that the amount of terran material is substantial, we estimate the fraction of this material surviving impact with intact geochemical and biological tracers. 相似文献
