The principle of biostratigraphic delimitation of the type lower boundary of the Cambrian System has become generally accepted, despite a lack of recent results which further support this approach. The detection of the most ancient Vendian Ediacara softbodied forms and Cambrian skeletal fauna in a large number of localities worldwide has been the only obvious trend in recent investigations.The present agreement that the base of the Tommotion Stage is the most satisfactory position for the Precambrian—Cambrian boundary is based on the idea that the best type section of the boundary is to be found in the Siberian platform. Such a decision is based largely on the unsatisfactory nature of the arguments for alternative positions.  相似文献

We have experimentally studied the excitation of the rhenium atom by collisions with slow monoenergetic electrons and measured 47 excitational cross sections for lines of ReI at an electron energy of 50 eV. Previously published information about the probabilities of radiative transitions of ReI is analyzed. The data for two experimental studies of the ratios Iλ/gA for transitions with a common upper level differ by three orders of magnitude.  相似文献

The low rotation velocities of magnetic CP stars are discussed. Arguments against the involvement of the magnetic field in the loss of angular momentum are given: (1) the fields are not strong enough in young stars in the stage of evolution prior to the main sequence; (2) there is no significant statistical correlation between the magnetic field strength and the rotation period of CP stars; (3) stars with short periods have the highest fields; (4) a substantial number of stars with very low magnetic fields (B e < 500 G) have rotation speeds that are typical of other CP stars; (5) simulations of the magnetic fields by Leroy and the author show that the orientation of dipoles inside rotating stars, both slow and fast, is consistent with an arbitrary orientation of the dipoles; and, (6) slow rotators with P>25 days, which form 12% of the total, probably lie at the edge of the velocity distribution for low mass stars. All of these properties conflict with the hypothesis of magnetic braking of CP stars.  相似文献

Oxygen isotopes and geochemistry from lake sediments are commonly used as proxies of past hydrologic and climatic conditions, but the importance of present-day hydrologic processes in controlling these proxies are sometimes not well established and understood. Here we use present-day hydrochemical data from 13 lakes in a hydrologically connected lake chain in the northern Great Plains (NGP) to investigate isotopic and solute evolution along a hydrologic gradient. The 18O and 2H of water from the chain of lakes, when plotted in 2H - 18O space, form a line with a slope of 5.9, indicating that these waters fall on an evaporation trend. However, 10 of the 13 lakes are isotopically similar (18O = –6 ± 1 VSMOW) and show no correlation with salinity (which ranges from 1 to 65). The lack of correlation implies that the isotopic composition of various source waters rather than in-lake evaporation is the main control of the 18O of the lakes. Groundwater, an important input in the water budget of this chain of lakes, has a lower 18O value (–16.7 in 1998) than that of mean annual precipitation (–11) owing to selective recharge from snow melt. For the lakes in this chain with salinity < 15, the water Mg/Ca ratios are strongly correlated with salinity, whereas Sr/Ca is not. The poor correlation between Sr/Ca and salinity results from uptake of Sr by endogenic aragonite. These new results indicate that 18O records may not be interpreted simply in term of climate in the NGP, and that local hydrology needs to be adequately investigated before a meaningful interpretation of sedimentary records can be reached.  相似文献

We present laboratory measurements of the phase dependences of linear polarization for surfaces with a complex microstructure in the range of phase angles 0.1°–3.5° A sample of freshly fallen snow (with particle sizes of about 50 × 500 m) exhibits a nearly zero polarization. Surfaces with submicron structure show a narrow branch of negative polarization at small phase angles, irrespective of whether the surface is powderlike or solid with microcrystalline structure. This polarization is similar to that exhibited by Jupiter's satellites. The negative polarization branch becomes deeper with decreasing porosity of light dielectric surfaces. At the phase angles between 0.5° and 3.0°, the polarization for quartz powder with 10-m particles is almost constant. The polarization for light dielectric surfaces depends on the geometry of illumination and observation. An inclination of the surface in the scattering plane produces a parallel shift of the negative polarization branch toward large values of the polarization modulus. The same inclination in a perpendicular direction produces the same shift toward positive degrees of polarization.  相似文献

On July 20, 1994, before the Q fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 fell to Jupiter, more than 200 spectra of the Jovian features were obtained at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in the wavelength range 5700–7600 Å with a 26 s exposure time and a spectral resolution of 20 Å. We found a time-varying Na D line emission in the form of two components with Doppler shifts of about 30 Å. The brightest and most frequent sodium flares were detected when the Q fragments passed through the Jovian inner magnetosphere at a distance of about three the Jovian radii (3RJ) from its center, where they crossed the Io-Jupiter current tube. A frequency analysis of our data revealed a flare recurrence time scale of 1 min. We conclude that sodium was released from the cometary dust and from the surfaces of numerous cometary debris and that its amount was enough to produce the observed emission. The observed high-speed clouds of sodium atoms are assumed to have been formed through ionization, ion acceleration by the bidirectional electric fields of Alfvén waves in the Io-Jupiter current tube, and their neutralization.  相似文献

Continuous measurement of carbon dioxide exchange using the eddy covariance (EC) technique is made at the Qianyanzhou mid-subtropical planted forest as part of the ChinaFLUX net-work. Qianyanzhou planted forest is affected by typical subtropical continental monsoon climate. It has plentiful water and heat resource but is in inconsistency of its seasonal distribution in the mid-subtropical region, thus seasonal drought frequently occurs in this planted forest. In this study, seasonal drought effect on ecosystem carbon sequestration was analyzed based on net ecosystem productivity (NEP), ecosystem respiration (RE) and gross ecosystem productivity (GEP) at the month scale in 2003 and 2004. In this drought-stressed planted forest, ecosystem carbon sequestration showed a clear seasonality, with low rates during seasonal drought and in winter. The declining degree of ecosystem carbon sequestration under the seasonal drought condition was determined by the accumulation of soil moisture deficits and a co-occurrence of high temperatures. Different drought effects are expected for RE and GEP. The net effect of ecosystem carbon balance depends on how these two quantities are affected relatively to each other. Summer drought and heat wave are two aspects of weather that likely play an important part in the annual NEP of forest in this region.  相似文献
