Value of information analysis is useful for helping a decision maker evaluate the benefits of acquiring or processing additional data. Such analysis is particularly beneficial in the petroleum industry, where information gathering is costly and time-consuming. Furthermore, there are often abundant opportunities for discovering creative information gathering schemes, involving the type and location of geophysical measurements. A consistent evaluation of such data requires spatial modeling that realistically captures the various aspects of the decision situation: the uncertain reservoir variables, the alternatives and the geophysical data under consideration. The computational tasks of value of information analysis can be daunting in such spatial decision situations; in this paper, a regression-based approximation approach is presented. The approach involves Monte Carlo simulation of data followed by linear regression to fit the conditional expectation expression that is needed for value of information analysis. Efficient approximations allow practical value of information analysis for the spatial decision situations that are typically encountered in petroleum reservoir evaluation. Applications are presented for seismic amplitude data and electromagnetic resistivity data, where one example includes multi-phase fluid flow simulations. 相似文献

Summary ?The paper considers a meso-scale, adiabatic, inviscid and Boussisnesq flow of a stably stratified fluid over a three-dimensional
(3-D) meso-scale orographic barrier with elliptic contour, with special reference to a part of the Western ghats mountain
along west coast of India and on the Khasi-Jayantia hill in the northeast India. The airstream characteristics are simplified
by assuming that the upstream wind velocity (U) and buoyancy frequency (N) are constant with height. Solutions for perturbation vertical velocity (w′) and streamline displacement (η′) are expressed in terms of double integrals. These integrals cannot be evaluated exactly,
hence they have been approximated by asymptotic expansion method. Side by side solutions using numerical method have also
been obtained. The results of the study indicate that the updraft regions in the asymptotic solution are crescent shaped,
symmetrical about the axis y = 0, tilting upwind and spreading laterally with height. The study also shows that in both asymptotic solution and numerical
solution w′ and η′ fall off down wind of the barrier in the central plane (y = 0), further more in the asymptotic solution w′ and η′ fall off as x
−1. The study also indicates that the discrete updraft regions obtained in the numerical solution, when joined, take a crescent
shape.

Scrap tyres can be shredded into chips and can easily be mixed with granular soils. To assess the behaviour of the admixtures,
compressibility and triaxial compression tests were carried out by varying chip size and chip content. The results demonstrated

We report here results from a new search for orbital motion of the accretion powered X-ray pulsar 4U 1626–67 using two different
analysis techniques. X-ray light curve obtained with the Proportional Counter Array of the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer during
a long observation carried out in February 1996, was used in this work. The spin period and the local period derivative were
first determined from the broad 2–60 keV energy band light curve and these were used for all subsequent timing analysis. In
the first technique, the orbital phase dependent pulse arrival times were determined for different trial orbital periods in
the range of 500 to 10,000 s. We have determined a 3σ upper limit of 13 lt-ms on the projected semimajor axis of the orbit of the neutron star for most of the orbital period range,
while in some narrow orbital period ranges, covering about 10% of the total orbital period range, it is 20lt-ms. In the second
method, we have measured the pulse arrival times at intervals of 100 s over the entire duration of the observation. The pulse
arrival time data were used to put an upper limit on any periodic arrival time delay using the Lomb-Scargle periodogram. We
have obtained a similar upper limit of 10 lt-ms using the second method over the orbital period range of 500–10,000 s. This
puts very stringent upper limits for the mass of the compact object except for the unlikely case of a complete face-on orientation
of the binary system with respect to our line-of-sight. In the light of this measurement and the earlier reports, we discuss
the possibility of this system being a neutron star with a supernovae fall-back accretion disk. 相似文献

We estimate the power spectrum of H i intensity fluctuations for a sample of eight galaxies (seven dwarf and one spiral). The power spectrum can be fitted to a power-law for six of these galaxies, indicating turbulence is operational. The estimated best-fitting value for the slope ranges from ∼−1.5 (AND IV, NGC 628, UGC 4459 and GR 8) to ∼−2.6 (DDO 210 and NGC 3741). We interpret this bi-modality as being due to having effectively 2D turbulence on length-scales much larger than the scale-height of the galaxy disc and 3D otherwise. This allows us to use the estimated slope to set bounds on the scale-heights of the face-on galaxies in our sample. We also find that the power-law slope remains constant as we increase the channel thickness for all these galaxies, suggesting that the fluctuations in H i intensity are due to density fluctuations and not velocity fluctuations, or that the slope of the velocity structure function is ∼0. Finally, for the four galaxies with '2D turbulence' we find that the slope α correlates with the star formation rate (SFR) per unit area, with larger SFRs leading to steeper power laws. Pixel-based or texture-based classification technique individually does not yield an appropriate result in classifying the high spatial resolution remote sensing imagery since it comprises textured and non-textured regions. In this study, Hölder exponents (HE) and variance (VAR) are used together to transform the image for measuring texture. A threshold is derived to segment the transformed image into textured and non-textured regions. Subsequently, the original image is extracted into textured and non-textured regions using this segmented image mask. Afterward, extracted textured region is classified using ISODATA classification algorithm considering HE, VAR, and intensity values of individual pixel of textured region. And extracted non-textured region of the image is classified using ISODATA classification algorithm. In case of non-textured region, HE and VAR value of individual pixel is not considered for classification for significant textural variation is not found among different classes. Consequently, the classified outputs of non-textured and textured regions that are generated independently are merged together to get the final classified image. IKONOS 1 m PAN images are classified using the proposed algorithm, and the classification accuracy is more than 88%. 相似文献

A simple and exclusively satellite-based instantaneous net radiation (INR) and its components have been estimated and it is based on the method proposed. The method has been used to check its suitability over West Bengal, India on clear sky days which is eliminating the need for ground-based observations. The method explicitly recognizes the need for spatially varied input parameters to estimate net radiation using remote sensing information and provides a distributed daily average net radiation map with finer spatial resolution. The satellite-derived radiative flux components were compared with the Eddy Flux Tower measurements located at Bonnie camp within mangrove forest. The bias, root-mean square error and R2 between modelled and measured INR are 52.07, 49.5 W m?2 and 0.74, respectively which are within the acceptable limit. The errors in the downward short wave and long wave as well as upward short-wave and long-wave radiative flux are 13.78, 3.54, 12.41 and 3.54%, respectively. After the 2004 Sumatra?CAndaman tsunamigenic earthquake, waters from the ocean moved upstream along rivers, bays, harbors, and lagoons and inundated many coastal and inland locations in the southern, eastern, and northern parts of Sri Lanka. The tsunami waters were observed to move upwards inland and then recede downwards to the ocean after varying inundation periods in different coastal areas. Subsequent massive tsunami waves came with the wave height varying from 3 to 8?m inland with speed of about 30?C40?kmph. The oceanic waves carrying heterogeneous sediments with water deposited them in coastal as well as inland locations about 1?km from the present coastline. Given the chaotic nature of tsunami oceanic waves, pre-tsunami deposits, such as beach sands, debris from coral reefs and buildings, parts of vehicles and ships, and tree trunks are found incorporated in authentic tsunami sediments. Thus, the texture, structure, and composition of sediments deposited by tsunami waters differed from one location to another. Therefore, in identifying paleo-tsunami sediments, care was taken to compare them with diagnostic unmixed uncontaminated recent tsunami sediments having characteristic textures and marine microfossil assemblages, such as foraminifera, radiolarians, and diatoms where preserved in coastal depressions. The radiocarbon ages of the carbonate and the organic fractions of these sediments are stratigraphically inconsistent, indicating mixing of sediments by the tsunami waves. The concentrations of organic carbon and nitrogen and their isotopic signatures confirm marine origin of these sediments. 相似文献
