Owing to its low hydraulic conductivity, soil and bentonite mixture is applied as a liner material. However, the experimental determination of hydraulic conductivity, which is controlled by various physical, chemical and mineralogical factors, requires an expensive and time-consuming setup. In the present work, multigene symbolic, genetic programming was used to model functional relationships for hydraulic conductivity. The developed model was able to generalize highly nonlinear variations in data as well as predict system behavior from experimental observations. It was found that the predictions obtained from developed model agree well with experimental observations. 相似文献

A regional tree ring-width index chronology prepared from various tree core samples of the western Himalaya has been analyzed in relation to climate fluctuations. The correlation analysis of tree ring chronology shows significant positive correlations with regional rainfall and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and negative correlations with temperature and vapor pressure (VP) during the spring season. The correlation coefficients (CCs) of tree ring-width index chronology with rainfall, temperature, SPEI, and VP during 1901–1990 are 0.50, −0.49, 0.65, and −0.51, respectively. All CCs are significant at 0.1% level. The highly significant CCs between tree ring-width index chronology and SPEI indicate that tree growth over the western Himalaya is more sensitive to soil moisture availability than rainfall, whereas the rising VP is found to have a significant moisture stress condition to tree growth by accelerating the evapotranspiration, which is not conducive for the development of tree growth in the region. So, based on the strong association between tree ring-width index chronology and SPEI; the reconstructions of SPEI and VP are developed back to AD 1861, that show the long period of dryness during 1936–1963. 相似文献

Kachchh basin is a Mesozoic rift basin under the influence of many active faults. This in turn gives rise to marked structural complexity and associated seismicity. Remote Sensing study of geomorphic evidences of these faults has been carried out using satellite images and is validated using morphometric analysis and digital elevation model data. Satellite images not only help in identifying expression of active faults and active tectonics on a macroscopic scale, but also provide the image characteristics of active faults directly. A few faults along with nature of lateral displacement could be identified from the Kachchh area. Morphometric analysis viz., sinuosity, asymmetry factor and hypsometry indicated affected streams and drainage basins due to fault activity. 相似文献

In India, Jharia Coalfield (JCF) has one of the densest congregations of surface-subsurface coal fires known worldwide. Systematic investigation and quantification of actual scenario of coal fires in JCF is always necessary to plan sustainable mining, industrial growth and environmental remediation on a long term basis. The present approach involves evaluation and mapping of coal fire using ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection) data. Mapping reveals that the area located around western, eastern and south-eastern parts of JCF covering territories of Shatabdi opencast, Barora; Sijua opencast; Godhar colliery; Kusunda; Bokapahari; Kujama and Lodna are under intense fire with cumulative coverage of 6.23 km2. The ASTER derived Land Surface Temperature (LST) of the anomalous areas have been subsequently validated by the field observations, carried out in JCF in February, 2010. River estuarine environment constitutes a highly dynamic fluvio-morphological setting where processes of accretion and deposition are active. Hooghly estuary, being one of the largest of estuaries in the east coast of India, needs constant monitoring. Multidate satellite images of IRS-1A L1SS-I and Landsat MSS for 1975–1991 period are studied to detect long term morphological changes in this estuary. The study reveals that the estuarine islands like Sagar, Ghorarmara and Suparbhanga are eroding whereas Lohachara islands has completely eroded off Nayachara island near Haldia due to its shape and size bifurcates the river into two channels. The island as revealed from Satellite images is in accretional phase where the total surface area has increased. The study, therefore, indicates that constant monitoring of spatial and temporal changes in this type of environment would help to understand physical processes. 相似文献

Remotely-sensed satellite data of Landsat 5 (TM) and IRS-1A (LISS II) covering parts of central portion of Chotanagapur plateau have been analysed visually to delineate some prominent lineaments in Ranchi district and its adjoining area. One of the most prominent lineament “Ranchi mega lineament? has been analysed in this paper. This lineament is a potential site for base metal mineralisation at some places, and it acts as good groundwater conduit in the region. No earlier attempt to map this entire structural unit as a separate entity is known. Geophysical bouguer gravity anomaly map, lithological and structural maps have some remarkable correlation with this lineament. In the present paper authors have tried to analyse the lineament with respect to its tectonic, mineralisation and groundwater prospects. Resistivity survey carried in close proximity of this lineament at selected sites, indicate that rocks are well fractured at depth. Available lithological and structural map support this lineament as a shear near Purulia (W.B.) and also having base-metal mineralisation potential in this area. AbstractShuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM-GL1), Advanced Space Borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer- Global DEM (GDEM-V2), recently released Advanced Land Observing Satellite (‘DAICHI’) DEM (AW3D30) and Indian National Cartosat-1 DEM v3 (CartoDEM-V3.1) provide free topographic data at a 30-m resolution for Indian peninsula. In this research study, the vertical accuracy of DEM is evaluated for above data-sets and compared with high accuracy dual frequency GNSS of a millimetre accuracy. The extensive field investigation is carried out using a stratified random fast static DGPS survey for collecting 117 high accuracy ground control points in a predominantly agriculture catchment. Further, the effect of land cover, slope and low-lying coastal zone on DEM vertical accuracy was also analysed and presented in this study. 相似文献

Dokriani Glacier is regarded as one of the important glaciers of Bhagirathi River basin, which fed river Ganges. The length of the glacier is about 4.6 km, and snout elevation is about 4028 m m.s.l. The mass balance of this glacier was calculated using field-based measurements for few years during 1994 to 2000. However, due to remote and poor accessibility, the field-based measurements could not continue; thus, remote sensing-based methods become useful tool to estimate the long-term mass balance of the glacier. In this study, glacier mass balance has been determined using accumulation area ratio (AAR) method. Remote sensing data sets, e.g. Landsat TM, ETM?+?and OLI, have been used to estimate AAR for different years from 1994 to 2014. An attempt has also been made to develop a mathematical relationship between remote sensing-derived AAR and field-observed mass balance data of the glacier. Further, this relationship has been used to estimate mass balance of the glacier for different years using remote sensing-derived AAR. Estimated mass balance was validated from ground-observed mass balance for few years. The field-observed and remote sensing-derived mass balance data are compared and showed high correlation. It has been observed that AAR for the Dokriani Glacier varies from 0.64 to 0.71. Mass balance of the glacier was observed between ??15.54 cm and ??50.95 cm during the study period. The study highlights the application of remote sensing in mass balance study of the glaciers and impact of climate change in glaciers of Central Indian Himalaya. 相似文献

In the present study an attempt has been made in order to evaluate the weathering and erosional status of a part of the Konkan coast stretching between Mumbai and Rajpuri, using IRS-IB, LISS-II data supported by spectral reflectance and thin section study of the rock samples collected from the coastal plains. The study revealed that extensive erosion has been taking place in few pockets along the Konkan Coastal plain, which is evidenced by the presence of more weathered rocks in the coastal plains as compared to that of the hinterland, siltation of the coastal wetlands due to the deposition of eroded materials and high-suspended sediments in the coastal water. The thin section study of the basaltic rock samples collected from the coast also shows evidence of physical and chemical weathering. The lineaments of the coastal tract are found to exist in clusters mostly trending towards NNE—SSW and a few N—S trending, this supports the presence of a N-S trending fault parallel to the Konkan coast along the Western Ghats. It has also been found that remote sensing, in association with other conventional techniques is ideal for such type of studies. 相似文献
