Mixing of heated water discharged from outfalls is an efficient and effective method of waste disposal in coastal areas. Discharging the heated water with large quantities of mass flux generally requires multi-port diffusers. In recent years, using numerical models to predict the plume behavior has received attention from many researchers, who are interested in design of outfalls. This study reports the development and application of an artificial neural network model for prediction of initial dilution of multi-port tee diffusers. Several networks with different structures were trained and tested using error back propagation algorithm. Statistical error measures showed that a three layer network with 9 neurons in the hidden layer is skillful in prediction of initial dilution and the outputs are in good agreement (R = 0.97) with experimental results. Furthermore, the sensitivity analyses showed that the width of the equivalent slot of the diffuser is the most important parameter in the estimation of initial dilution.  相似文献

Detoxification of synthetic dyes is one of the main challenges in clearing textile industry wastes. Biodegradation of azo-dyes using Phanerochaete chrysosporium is one the most environmentally friendly methods available. The main enzymes responsible for mycodecolorization process are lignin and manganese peroxidases. Here, optimization of expression conditions has been carried out with manipulating culture condition and nutrient sources. Therefore, the effects of buffer and temperature as well as nitrogen source on lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase production were investigated at two levels and four levels, respectively. For this purpose, P. chrysosporium RP78 based on Taguchi design of experiment has been applied. Maximum lignin and manganese peroxidase activities of 182 ± 2.5 U/L and 850 ± 41 U/L were obtained under predicted optimum conditions, respectively. Thereby, about 100 % decolorization was achieved after 24 h for two most widely used groups of azo dyes in textile industry consisting reactive and acidic. The physical adsorption of the azo dyes by mycelia was not significant which indicated that the enzymatic degradation of the dyes was occurred. Time profile of these enzymes showed that manganese peroxidase was peaked on 9th day while lignin peroxidase peaked on 13th day and remained stable in the culture. The extracellular expression profiles of both were studied by 2 dimensional gel electrophoresis to partially characterize the enzymes.  相似文献

The vibrational spectrum of Mg2SiO4 olivine was calculated at the Γ point by using the periodic ab initio CRYSTAL program. An all electron localized Gaussian-type basis set and the B3LYP Hamiltonian were employed. The full set of frequencies (35 IR active, 36 Raman active, 10 “silent” modes) was computed and compared to experimental data from different sources (four for IR and four for Raman). A generally good agreement is observed with experiment (the mean absolute difference ranging from 7 to 10 cm−1 for the various sets), when some of the experimental frequencies, whose attribution is uncertain or appears to be affected by large errors, are not taken into account. A small number of observed peaks are not consistent with calculated frequencies, and a few theoretical peaks do not correspond to measured values. The implications are discussed in detail. The full set of modes are characterized using different tools, namely isotopic substitution, direct inspection of the eigenvectors and graphical representation, so as to obtain a consistent mode assignment.  相似文献

Summary A typical disturbance observed in the records of tilt measurements performed with horizontal pendulums in a mine at a depth of 145 m below surface, under very constant temperature conditions, has been analysed as to its correlation with the barometric pressure distribution. It is shown that the observed load tilts are not due to elastic deformations of the Earth's crust, but may be ascribed to movements of tectonic blocks of large extension.  相似文献

The experience of San Diego County, California, indicates that none of the commonly used legislative methods of preserving valuable agricultural land (large lot zoning, differential taxation, purchase or transfer of development rights, creation of exclusive agricultural districts) may be successful in very rapidly urbanizing metropolitan areas. Unless a local municipality can purchase the land outright, the profits to be made from selling greatly appreciated suburban land for development will tempt even the most dedicated farmer to sell and seek out less vulnerable land elsewhere. Steps such as large lot zoning need to be taken early to keep large blocks of agricultural land intact, the retention of these lands must be made part of a mandatory rather than a voluntary program in order to be successful, and the local jurisdictions must be sure that adequate economic incentives are available for those persons who do wish to continue farming the land.  相似文献

A novel adsorbent for heavy metal remediation in aqueous environments   总被引:1,自引:8,他引:1  
The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of using maize tassel as an alternative adsorbent for the removal of chromium (VI) and cadmium (II) ions from aqueous solutions. The effect of pH, solution temperature, contact time, initial metal ion concentration and adsorbent dose on the adsorption of chromium (VI) and cadmium (II) by tassel was investigated using batch methods. Adsorption for both chromium (VI) and cadmium (II) was found to be highly pH dependent compared to the other parameters investigated. Obtained results gave an adsorption capacity of 79.1 % for chromium (VI) at pH 2, exposure time of 1h at 25 °C. Maximum capacity of cadmium of 88 % was obtained in the pH range of 5-6 at 25 °C after exposure time of 1 h. The adsorption capacities of tassel for both chromium (VI) and cadmium (II) were found to be comparable to those of other commercial adsorbents currently in use for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous wastes. These results have demonstrated the immense potential of maize tassel as an alternative adsorbent for toxic metal ions remediation in polluted water and wastewater.  相似文献

The potential of three Azotobacter chroococcum strains for whey degradation and alginate production were investigated. After dilution, samples were spread plated on isolation agar and Manitol agar and incubated at 30 °C for 24 h. Microorganisms were screened for their ability to whey degradation and alginate production based on colony morphology, negative and capsule staining, ability to decrease the apparent turbidity of the fermentation broths in batch and semi continuous culture by spectrophotometer assay at 400 nanometer and tensiometer assay. Of the three strains tested for whey degradation, only Azotobacter chroococcum 1723 produced significant apparent growth on whey broth and could decrease about 70 % of turbidity in fermentation broth during 6 days in batch culture. Colonies of this strain was characteristically yellow, large, moucoid and slimy on whey agar than Manitol agar after 24 h at 30 °C. Transmission electron microscopy assay and Carbazole reagent were used to recognize the alginate biopolymer. After optimizing environmental factors such as pH, salt concentration and temperature, this strain was able to produce exopolysaccharide greater than 5 mg/mL. Optimum results were obtained when using whey broth as a fermentation medium without extra salt, temperature at 35 °C and pH 7. Increasing inorganic and organic nitrogen sources (yeast extract and NH4NO3) reduced whey degradation at least 30%. Transmission electron microscopy assay showed a net-structured polysaccharide capsule around the cells. Semi-continuous culture results demonstrated that, alginate production as well as whey degradation was decreased (1 mg/mL and 30 %).  相似文献

Solid phase P speciation has been determined in sediments from a transect across the central section of the continental shelf and slope of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) lagoon. This region is characterized by a gradient of riverine aluminosilicate clay and silt nearshore, seawards of which biogenic carbonate sediment predominates. Phosphorus speciation results show large variations along this transect. Organic P and authigenic (apatite) P are the major chemical forms of phosphorus in the central GBR continental shelf sediments. Post-depositional reorganization of P was also observed, converting organic P and iron bound P (Fe-P) to authigenic (apatite) P. Phosphorus burial rate was estimated from measurements of total P concentration and excess 210Pb sediment mass accumulation rates. Burial efficiency varies significantly over the shelf. Inshore areas showed significant P remobilization from sediments to the water column (up to ∼50%). The mid and the outer shelf showed little evidence for remobilization (except for coral reef platform sediments), with more of the sediment P being in the less reactive authigenic apatite phases. An appreciable fraction of this non-labile authigenic apatite phase was identified as fish bone. P sources and sinks over the central part of the GBR shelf were quantified using a mass balance approach. This showed that Coral Sea shelf edge upwelling events are essential to satisfy the large P nutrient demand of the whole GBR lagoon. P inputs due to upwelling events were greater than those contributed by local rivers over an average year.  相似文献

A significantly large volume of effluent is generated during the manufacture of sugar and contains high amount of pollution load. The effluent from sugarcane industry is disposed off on land moves into the wider environment through a number of routes and the soil itself retains the various contaminants in the effluent to a greater or lesser extent depending on the physical nature of the soil. The analysis of contaminant transport through soil used to design of industrial wastewater treatments and disposal systems. This paper discussed the adsorption and diffusion of cations calcium, magnesium, sodium and anions chloride and sulphate by the sorption diffusion permeameter under different hydraulic retentions time of 3 min, 13 min, 27 min and 58 min with a constant diffusion flow rate of 3.6 L/h. In this study, less percentage error found between observed adsorption and diffusion coefficients from the experiments at different hydraulic retentions time and optimum adsorption and diffusion coefficients from the experiments at optimum hydraulic retentions time of 30 min for calcium, magnesium, sodium, choloride and sulphate. The results of regression analysis implied that the adsorption and diffusion coefficients obtained from the equation for cations and anions were good recognizing with the experimental results.  相似文献
