The HI content of galaxies in the Eridanus group is studied using the GMRT observations and the HIPASS data. A significant
HI deficiency up to a factor of 2–3 is observed in galaxies in the high galaxy density regions. The HI deficiency in galaxies
is observed to be directly correlated to the local projected galaxy density, and inversely correlated to the line-of-sight
radial velocity. Furthermore, galaxies with larger optical diameters are predominantly in the lower galaxy density regions.
It is suggested that the HI deficiency in Eridanus is due to tidal interactions. In some galaxies, evidences of tidal interactions
are seen. An important implication is that significant evolution of galaxies can take place in the group environment. In the
hierarchical way of formation of clusters via mergers of groups, a fraction of the observed HI deficiency in clusters could
have originated in groups. The co-existence of S0s and severely HI deficient galaxies in the Eridanus group suggests that
tidal interaction is likely to be an effective mechanism for transforming spirals to S0s. 相似文献

The GMRTHI 21 cm-line observations of galaxies in the Eridanus group are presented. The Eridanus group, at a distance of ≈ 23 Mpc, is
a loose group of ≈200 galaxies. The group extends to more than 10 Mpc in projection. The velocity dispersion of the galaxies
in the group is ≈240 km s−1. The galaxies are clustered into different sub-groups. The overall population mix of the group is 30% (E + S0) and 70% (Sp
+ Irr). The observations of 57 Eridanus galaxies were carried out with the GMRT for ≈ 200 h. HI emission was detected from
31 galaxies. The channel rms of ≈ 1 mJy beam−1 was achieved for most of the image-cubes made with 4 h of data. The corresponding HI column density sensitivity (3σ) is ≈
1 × 1020 cm−2 for a velocity-width of ≈ 13.4 km s−1. The 3σ detection limit of HI mass is ≈ 1.2 X 107 Mpd for a line-width of 50 km s−1. Total HI images, HI velocity fields, global HI line profiles, HI mass surface densities, HI disk parameters and HI rotation
curves are presented. The velocity fields are analysed separately for the approaching and the receding sides of the galaxies.
These data will be used to study the HI and the radio continuum properties, the Tully-Fisher relations, the dark matter halos,

The Essaouira Basin (Morocco) contains a multi-layered aquifer situated in fractured and karstic materials from the Middle and Upper Cretaceous (the Cenomanian, Turonian and Senonian). Water percolates through the limestone and dolomite formations of the Turonian stage either through the marls and calcareous marls of the Cenomanian or through the calcareous marly materials of the Senonian. The aquifer system may be interconnected since the marl layer separating the Turonian, Cenomanian and Senonian aquifers is thin or intensively fractured. In that case, the water is transported through a network of fractures and stratification joints. This paper describes the extent of the nitrate pollution in the area and its origin. Most of the wells and drillholes located in the Kourimat perimeter are contaminated by nitrates with some concentrations over . Nitrate contamination is also observed in the surface water of the Qsob River, which constitutes the natural outlet of the multi-layered complex aquifer system. In this area, agriculture is more developed than in the rest of the Essaouira Basin. Diffuse pollution of the karstic groundwater body by agricultural fertiliser residues may therefore partially explain the observed nitrate pollution. However, point pollution around the wells, springs and drillholes from human wastewater, livestock faeces and the mineralisation of organic debris close to the Muslim cemeteries cannot be excluded. 相似文献

Both field evaluation and econometric models were used to determine the economic performances of trawlers of different tonnages. The determination of clay content in near‐surface formations is crucial for geotechnical, hydrogeological and oil‐contamination studies. We have developed a technique for estimating clay content that consists of the minimization of the difference between the theoretically calculated and measured soil resistivities as a function of water salinity. To calculate the resistivity, we used a model that takes into account the electrochemical processes in the clay micropores. The experimental measurements of soil resistivity were performed on soil samples, completely saturated by brines at different concentrations of NaCl salt in the range 0.6–100 g/l, to obtain the resistivity versus salinity curve. The parameters obtained with this curve inversion are the clay content, the total porosity and the cation exchange capacity. To verify the new technique, we determined clay concentrations of artificial mixtures of calibrated sand and clay. The relative mean error in the clay content does not exceed 20% for a 5% fitting error of the resistivity versus salinity curves. Such evaluations allow the correct separation of the main lithological groups (sand, sandy loam, loam, and light, medium and heavy clay). We applied this technique to estimate the petrophysical parameters of soils (clay content, porosity and cation exchange capacity) at various sites in Mexico. The results improved the interpretation of the vertical electrical soundings, the lithological soil characterization and the delineation of oil‐contaminated areas. 相似文献

Forty fission-track ages of apatite, zircon and sphene, and nine horizontal “confined” track-length distribution patterns in apatite have been used to establish the cooling history of nine Silurian to Late Cretaceous alkaline ring complexes which intrude Precambrian basement in the southern Eastern Desert of Egypt. Zircon or sphene fission-track ages were determined from three complexes for whichK/Ar andRb/Sr ages on the same samples were also available, these ages are concordant and are interpreted as emplacement ages resulting from rapid cooling following high level crustal intrusion into relatively thick volcanic piles.Average apatite ages for each of the eight ring complexes range from 33 to 167 m.y. Track-length distribution patterns for apatites taken together with their ages invite subdivision into two groupings. Those complexes yielding Early Oligocene apparent apatite ages suggest cooling from the total track annealing zone followed by a relatively lengthy residence near the base of the partial annealing zone whereas those with Late Cretaceous ages indicate cooling from a shallower level in the partial annealing zone. Variations in cooling history resulted from differential uplift between fault-bound blocks. One block, that containing the Late Cretaceous Abu Khruq complex, was relatively stable and the different degrees of partial resetting recorded in apatites of this complex are attributed to the thermal effect of localised Tertiary dyke intrusion.Fission-track analysis in combination with geologic data indicates that in the south Eastern Desert of Egypt a phase of uplift commenced in Late Oligocene time and was accompanied by paleogeothermal gradients of ca. 40–50°C/km. Uplift was more pronounced (at least 2–2.5 km) in areas within about 100 km from the present Red Sea coast. This uplift, which is viewed as part of a broader regional tectonism related to the opening of the Red Sea, occurred along a northwest fracture pattern and was controlled by pre-existing lines of weakness in the basement complex. 相似文献
