Research on Amazonian communities has focussed more often on rural‐urban linkages than on links among rural communities. This is unsurprising, given the low density of population, limited intercommunity commerce, and importance of direct city‐market relations. Social relations among rural communities are also important in shaping rural livelihoods and lifeways. We report on the findings of a large‐scale census of communities in the Napo River basin in northeastern Peru (n=174). Data were gathered on intervillage crop seed acquisition and cooperative labor sharing as two key inputs in agriculture, and on intervillage soccer matches, which are integral to rural social life. We analyze the socio‐spatial networks of each practice, paying attention to settlement patterns, community ethnicity, and differential access to the uplands. We find that seeds and labor flow along soccer network lines. Rural social networks appear to be structured strongly by ethnicity (homophily) and reflect important complementarities between upland and lowland communities (weak ties). 相似文献

Numerous large landslide deposits occur in the Tien Shan, a tectonically active intraplate orogen in Central Asia. Yet their significance in Quaternary landscape evolution and natural hazard assessment remains unresolved due to the lack of "absolute" age constraints. Here we present the first 10Be exposure ages for three prominent (> 107 m3) bedrock landslides that blocked major rivers and formed lakes, two of which subsequently breached, in the northern Kyrgyz Tien Shan. Three 10Be ages reveal that one landslide in the Alamyedin River occurred at 11–15 ka, which is consistent with two 14C ages of gastropod shells from reworked loess capping the landslide. One large landslide in Aksu River is among the oldest documented in semi-arid continental interiors, with a 10Be age of 63–67 ka. The Ukok River landslide deposit(s) yielded variable 10Be ages, which may result from multiple landslides, and inheritance of 10Be. Two 10Be ages of 8.2 and 5.9 ka suggest that one major landslide occurred in the early to mid-Holocene, followed by at least one other event between 1.5 and 0.4 ka. Judging from the regional glacial chronology, all three landslides have occurred between major regional glacial advances. Whereas Alamyedin and Ukok can be considered as postglacial in this context, Aksu is of interglacial age. None of the landslide deposits show traces of glacial erosion, hence their locations and 10Be ages mark maximum extents and minimum ages of glacial advances, respectively. Using toe-to-headwall altitude ratios of 0.4–0.5, we reconstruct minimum equilibrium-line altitudes that exceed previous estimates by as much as 400 m along the moister northern fringe of the Tien Shan. Our data show that deposits from large landslides can provide valuable spatio-temporal constraints for glacial advances in landscapes where moraines and glacial deposits have low preservation potential. 相似文献

With modern imaging and spectral instruments observing in the visible, EUV, X-ray, and radio wavelengths, the detection of
oscillations in the solar outer atmosphere has become a routine event. These oscillations are considered to be the signatures
of a wave phenomenon and are generally interpreted in terms of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves. With multiwavelength observations
from ground- and space-based instruments, it has been possible to detect waves in a number of different wavelengths simultaneously
and, consequently, to study their propagation properties. Observed MHD waves propagating from the lower solar atmosphere into
the higher regions of the magnetized corona have the potential to provide excellent insight into the physical processes at
work at the coupling point between these different regions of the Sun. High-resolution wave observations combined with forward
MHD modeling can give an unprecedented insight into the connectivity of the magnetized solar atmosphere, which further provides
us with a realistic chance to reconstruct the structure of the magnetic field in the solar atmosphere. This type of solar
exploration has been termed atmospheric magnetoseismology. In this review we will summarize some new trends in the observational
study of waves and oscillations, discussing their origin and their propagation through the atmosphere. In particular, we will
focus on waves and oscillations in open magnetic structures (e.g., solar plumes) and closed magnetic structures (e.g., loops and prominences), where there have been a number of observational highlights in the past few years. Furthermore, we
will address observations of waves in filament fibrils allied with a better characterization of their propagating and damping
properties, the detection of prominence oscillations in UV lines, and the renewed interest in large-amplitude, quickly attenuated,

Density, bulk-velocity, and heat-flow moments are calculated for truncated maxwellian distributions representing the cool and hot populations of solar-wind electrons, as realized at the base of a hypothetical exosphere. The electrostatic potential is thus calculated by requiring charge quasineutrality and the absence of electrical current. Plasma-kinetic coupling of the cool-electron and proton bulk velocities leads to an increase in the electrostatic potential and a decrease in the heat-flow moment. If the velocities differ by the Alfvén speed along the magnetic field, for example, the potential rises to 72.6 V and the heat flux falls to 2.72×10–2 erg cm–2 s–1. We present new results on the nature of the faint radio galaxy population obtained from a deep identification study in the Marano Field. This work represents the highest identification fractions attained to date in literature for sub-mJy radio samples. Star-forming galaxies constitute a significant fraction of the optical counterparts of sub-mJy radio sources, although they are not the dominant identification class (as formerly believed). We also present a new determination of the co-moving star formation density from z=0 to z?0.35 using the radio luminosity function of star-forming galaxies. For the local determination, we used a sample of 231 spiral galaxies taken from the B≤12 Revised Shapley-Ames Catalogue, while for the non-local determination, we used a sample of87 star-forming galaxies taken from the Benn et al. (1993) sample. The inferred local star formation rate is about twice as great as the Hα estimate, while the intermediate 0.05<z<0.35 star formation rate is consistent with coeval ultraviolet and Hα estimates. This is due to large-scale structure, rarely accounted for in estimates of the cosmic star formation history; the situation could improve significantly with deep moderate-area radio surveys. 相似文献

In this paper, we derive and study approximate balance models for nearly geostrophic shallow water flow where the Coriolis parameter is permitted to vary across the domain as long as it remains nondegenerate. This situation includes, for example, the β-plane approximation to the shallow water equations at mid-latitudes. Our approach is based on changing configuration space coordinates in the underlying variational principle in such a way that consistent asymptotics in the transformed Lagrangian leads to a degenerate Lagrangian structure. In this paper, we restrict our attention to first-order models. We show that the resulting models can be formulated in terms of an advected potential vorticity with a nonlinear vorticity inversion relation. We study the associated solvability conditions and identify a subfamily of models for which these conditions are satisfied without additional restrictions on the data. Finally, we provide the link between our framework and the theory of constrained Hamiltonian systems. 相似文献

We measured displacement, pore-water pressure, and climatic conditions for 3 years at the continuously moving Slumgullion
landslide in Colorado, USA. The landslide accelerated when pore-water pressure increased within the landslide body, but this
occurred as pore-water pressure decreased along the landslide margin. The decrease probably occurred in response to shear-induced
soil dilation at rates greater than pore-pressure diffusion and likely increased resistance to shear displacement and resulted
in landslide deceleration. This dilative strengthening has been experimentally observed and explained theoretically, but not
previously identified during field studies. Although landslide displacement should have exceeded that required to achieve
critical-state density of shear boundaries, observed relocation of these boundaries indicates that shearing is episodic at
fixed locations, so it permits renewed dilative strengthening when “fresh” soil is sheared. Thus, dilatant strengthening may
be a considerable mechanism controlling landslide velocity, even for landslides that have continuously moved great distances. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Nach der herkömmlichen, seit vier Jahrzehnten vertretenen und seither verschieden abgewandelten Auffassung über die Ostalpenvererzungen spielen paläozoisch entstandene Lagerstätten nur eine bescheidene Rolle. In den vergangenen fünf Jahren meldeten Kollegen aus Deutschland, Italien und österreich Bedenken gegen diese Auffassung an und berichteten von zahlreichen Metallanreicherungen, deren Ursprung paläozoisch gedeutet wird. Der Rahmen ist somit schon nach dem derzeitigen Stand der Kenntnisse beträchtlich größer und geht weit über das hinaus, was bisher als vorvariszische und variszische Lagerstätten bezeichnet wurde. Das gilt nicht nur für die Anzahl der Vorkommen und Lagerstätten, sondern auch für die Vielzahl der Paragenesen. Die Neuergebnisse beziehen sich auf Erzanreicherungen hauptsächlich mit den Metallen Fe, Cu, Mg, Sb, W, Hg und U. Diese Anreicherungen sind in mehreren zeitlichen Zyklen vom Altpaläozoikum bis Perm entstanden und wurden großteils gemeinsam mit dem Nebengestein unterschiedlich metamorphosiert.
Deposits of paleozoic origin have been considered to be only of minor importance to the conventional concepts of mineralization in the Eastern Alps. During the past five years, however, scientists from Germany, Italy and Austria raised doubts as to the correctness of these concepts describing numerous metal enrichments presumably of paleozoic origin. Hence the number of deposits and the variety of parageneses is much greater than has hitherto been assumed. The new results refer to ores enriched mainly with the following metals: Fe, Cu, Mg, Sb, W, Hg and U. The origin of these enrichments has to be attributed to several cycles from the old Paleozoic through the Permian. They were subject to different metamorphic changes together with the accessory rock.
Résumé Suivant l'interprétation traditionelle, soutenue et différement changée durant une période de 40 ans, parmi les minéralisations métalliques des Alpes Orientales les gisements d'âge paléozoÏque ne jouent qu'un rÔle subordonné. Dans les cinq dernières années des collègues allemands, italiens et autrichiens ont presenté des objections á cette interprétation et ont fait état des nombreuses concentrations métallifères, dont l'origine doit Être placée au PaléozoÏque. La cadre est donc dévenu, déjà dans l'état actuel des connaissances, plus large et bien plus nombreux sont les gisements qui peuvent Être considérés d'âge pré-hercynien ou hercynien. Cette conclusion est valable non seulement pour le nombre des manifestations et des gisements, mais aussi pour la multiplicité des paragenèses. Les nouveaux résultats concernent surtout les concentrations des métaux Fe, Cu, Mg, Sb, W, Hg et U. Ces concentrations ont été engendrées chronologiquement durants de nombreux cycles, du PaléozoÏque ancien au Permien, et ont été pour la plupart métamorphisées, parallèlement avec leurs roches encaissantes, à divers degrés d'intensité.
