This paper deals with the soil slope stability analysis along the road section (National Highway-05) near Luhri area, Himachal Pradesh, India. The area constantly experiences local as well as regional slides which enhances the siltation, reduce carrying capacity of the Sutlej river with time and further increases the water level on the banks of the slope. High traffic congestion puts the area at high risk zone and therefore, stability analysis was done using probabilistic as well as deterministic approach under static conditions through limit equilibrium method (LEM) and finite element method (FEM). FEM was used for stability analysis, mainly to obtain deformational characteristics, under static conditions and compared with LEM results. The results of both the methods help in identifying the zones of vulnerability in the case study. Further, the values of safety factor obtained from both the methods are in close approximation. The study also reveals that the slope is critically stable and a remedial measure has been suggested by modifying the geometry of the slope, which needs proper protection from any external factors like rainfall and earthquakes that may cause unforeseeable circumstances. 相似文献

In this paper, the propagation of Love waves in a fiber‐reinforced layered medium lying over an elastic orthotropic half‐space under initial stress has been investigated. We have obtained the velocity equations for Love wave in this media. It is observed that propagation of Love wave is influenced by reinforced parameters and initial stressed parameter. The velocity of Love wave has been computed for three different cases. Our computed equation of Love wave coincides with the standard equation of Love wave for the case of homogeneous layer and homogeneous half‐space (AEH Love, 1911). To study the effect of reinforced and initial stressed parameters, we have computed the numerical values for phase velocity and plotted in several figures. It is observed that the phase velocity decreases with the increases of reinforced parameters and initial stressed parameter. A rigorous theoretical investigation has been made on multi-dimensional instability of obliquely propagating electrostatic dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) solitary structures in a magnetized dusty electronegative plasma which consists of Boltzmann electrons, nonthermal negative ions, cold mobile positive ions, and arbitrarily charged stationary dust. The Zakharov-Kuznetsov (ZK) equation is derived by the reductive perturbation method, and its solitary wave solution is analyzed for the study of the DIA solitary structures, which are found to exist in such a dusty plasma. The multi-dimensional instability of these solitary structures is also studied by the small-k (long wave-length plane wave) perturbation expansion technique. The combined effects of the external magnetic field, obliqueness, and nonthermal distribution of negative ions, which are found to significantly modify the basic properties of small but finite-amplitude DIA solitary waves, are examined. The external magnetic field and the propagation directions of both the nonlinear waves and their perturbation modes are found to play a very important role in changing the instability criterion and the growth rate of the unstable DIA solitary waves. The basic features (viz. speed, amplitude, width, instability, etc.) and the underlying physics of the DIA solitary waves, which are relevant to many astrophysical situations (especially, auroral plasma, Saturn’s E-ring and F-ring, Halley’s comet, etc.) and laboratory dusty plasma situations, are briefly discussed. 相似文献

The phenomenon of acoustic waves inducing electric fields in porous media is called the seismoelectric effect. Earlier investigators proposed the usage of seismoelectric effect for well logging. Soil texture has a strong influence on the coupled wave fields during shallow surface explorations. In this article, we study the borehole pure shear‐horizontal wave and the coupling transverse‐electric field (acoustic–electrical coupling wave fields) in the partially saturated soil. Combined with related theories, we expand the formation parameters to partially saturated forms and discuss the influence of soil texture conditions on the seismoelectric wave fields. The results show that the elastic and electrical properties of porous media are sensitive to water saturation. The compositions of the acoustic and electric fields for different soil textures do not change, but the waveforms differ. We also use the secant integral method to simulate the interface‐converted electromagnetic waves. The results show that interface response strength is greatly influenced by soil texture. In addition, considering the sensitivity of the inducing electric field to fluid salinity, we also simulate the time‐domain waveforms of electric field for different pore fluid salinity levels. The results show that as the salinity increases, the electric field amplitude decreases monotonically. The above conclusions have certain significance for the application of borehole shear wave and its coupled electric fields for resource exploration, saturation assessment and groundwater pollution monitoring. 相似文献

We present a summary of several studies of transient coronal phenomena based upon high spatial resolution radio imaging data along with Yohkoh SXT and HXT observations. In addition to normal flares the studies also involve such exotic events as active region transient brightenings (ARTB) and coronal jets and bright points. We provide evidence of nonthermal processes in flaring X-ray bright points from spatially resolved meter-wave data, existence and propagation of type II burst emitting electrons in coronal jets, radio signatures of ARTB's, and beaming of electrons producing microwave and hard X-rays. We present observations of active region radio emission at 6.16 cm wavelength, obtained with an angular resolution of 3 by 10 arc using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) during the action interval May 20–27, 1980 of the Solar Maximum Year (SMY). We present maps in both total intensity (I) and circular polarization (V) of three regions (Hale numbers 16850, 16863, and 16864) and provide a detailed comparison of these maps with on- and off-band H pictures and with magnetograms. The strongest sources were associated with neutral lines and soft X-ray arcades. We present evidence that these neutral lines were characterized by having their two opposite polarities close to each other, implying a high magnetic field gradient, and by their association with arch filament systems. The sunspot associated radio sources had a relatively simple structure in region 16850; however for the large spots of regions 16864 and 16863 the emission had a patchy appearance with a tendency of the peaks to lie over the penumbra. In the V maps we observed for the first time two islands, polarized in the sense of the ordinary mode, which were located inside the sunspot associated sources and were associated with intrusions of opposite polarity field into the penumbra. These structures can be accounted for if the electron temperature along the line of sight is not a monotonically increasing function of height, but has a maximum near the second harmonic level. Finally we give a detailed analysis of observations of the inversion of the sense of circular polarization in region 16863. We find that the large scale structure of the magnetic field can be approximated by a dipole with its axis inclined by 11° with respect to the photosphere and with a dipole moment of about 2 × 1031 cgs units; the depolarization line is located at a height of 0.16–0.19 R above the dipole, where the estimated intensity of the magnetic field is 10–20 G. 相似文献
