The analysis of two-parameter families of triple close approaches occurring in stellar systems is studied in a series of three
papers. This paper deals with the role of triple encounters with low initial velocities and equal masses in the evolution
of stellar systems. It shows how a condition of complete collapse may be perturbed to obtain well-established two-parameter
families of asymmetric triple close approaches with the formation of a binary and with systematic regularity of escape of
the third body. Our results also indicate that the conjecture of Szebehely viz., `The measure of escaping orbits is significantly
higher than the measure of stable orbits' is likely to be true. Further our results differ from that of Agekian's escape probability
criterian. The second paper deals with the role of triple encounters with low initial velocities and equal masses in the evolution
of stellar systems in 3D space. The third and last paper offers applications in stellar systems.

Arrival times from a fast, quiet pulsar can be used to obtain accurate determinations of pulsar parameters. In the case of
the millisecond pulsar, PSR 1937 + 214, the remarkably small rms residual to the timing fit indicates that precise measurements
of position, proper motion and perhaps even trigonometric parallax will be possible (Backer 1984). The variances in these
parameters, however, will depend strongly on the nature of the underlying noise spectrum. We demonstrate that for very red
spectrai.e. those dominated by low-frequency noise, the uncertainties can be larger than the present estimates (based on a white-noise
model) and can even grow with the observation period. The possibility of improved parameter estimation through prewhitening’
the data and the application of these results to other pulsar observations are briefly discussed. The post-fit rms residual
of PSR 1937 + 214 may be used to limit the energy density of a gravitational radiation background at periods of a few months
to years. However, fitting the pulsar position and pulse-emission times filters out significant amounts of residual power,
especially for observation periods of less than three years. Consequently the present upper bound on the energy density of
gravitational waves Ωg <3 × 10-4

, though already more stringent than any other available, is not as restrictive as had been previously estimated. The present
limit is insufficient to exclude scenarios which use primordial cosmic strings for galaxy formation, but should improve rapidly
with time.

Einstein A-coefficients for the electric-dipole transitions between the rotational levels up to 400 cm–1 in the ground vibrational state of methylene (CH2) are calculated. The coefficients are used to compute the mean-radiative-life-times of the levels. A revised gravity anomaly map, generated from the EIGEN6C4 high resolution global gravity model, has been utilized for understanding structure and tectonics over the 85°E Ridge and surroundings. EIGEN6C4 data have been analysed using different derivatives and Analytical Signal techniques for delineation of structural features and comparative analysis with the published results, which shows good correlation. All the structural features observed in two seismic reflection sections over a small part of the 85°E Ridge have also been delineated very well. The lineament trends of N–S, NNW–SSE, ENE–WSW and E–W are consequences of the major changes occurred in the mid-Cretaceous towards the spreading trends from NNW–SSE to N–S and resulted in northward movement of the Indian Plate trailed by interaction with the Asian Plate in the Early Eocene. The lineaments in the eastern side of the ridge have greater circular variances and greater circular standard deviation than those of the western side, which reveals that the eastern side of the ridge has suffered more tectonic activities. 相似文献

This paper studies the stability of infinitesimal motions about the triangular equilibrium points in the elliptic restricted three body problem assuming bigger primary as a source of radiation and the smaller one a triaxial rigid body. The perturbation technique developed by Bennet (Icarus 4:177, 1965b) has been used for determination of characteristic exponents. This technique is based on Floquet’s Theory for determination of characteristic exponents in the system with periodic coefficients. The results of the study are analytical and numerical expressions are simulated for the transition curves bounding the region of stability in the μ–e plane, accurate to O(e 2). The unstable region is found to be divided into three parts. The effect of radiation parameter is significant. For small values of e, the results are in favor with the numerical analysis of Danby (Astron. J. 69:166, 1964), Bennet (Icarus 4:177, 1965b), Alfriend and Rand (AIAA J. 6:1024, 1969). Lignite samples from Vastan and Tadkeshwar lignite mines, Cambay Basin have been analysed to elucidate lignin precursor using thermochemolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The thermochemolysis products of lignites are characterized by monomethoxy-, dimethoxy-, and trimethoxybenzene derivatives originated from p-hydroxyphenyl, guaiacyl, and syringyl units of lignin polymer, respectively. The other compounds obtained in thermochemolysates of studied lignites are some resin derived C15 sesquiterpenoids, with a series of fatty acid methyl esters and n-alkanes/alkenes. The methylated guaiacyl and syringyl derivatives originate from the cleavage of β-O-4 linkages and subsequent methylation of acidic hydroxyl groups of preserved lignin. Gymnosperm lignin is characterized mainly by guaiacyl derivatives whereas angiosperm lignin yields some syringyl-type compounds in addition to guaiacyl-type compounds. By analogy with the lignin structure of modern trees, the abundant occurrences of syringyl derivatives in the thermochemolysis products of Surat lignites clearly demonstrate that the palaeofloral community was dominated by angiosperms during the deposition of these lignites. 相似文献

Tourism industry has become an important part of Indian economy, and tourism development has been, however, concentrated to a few areas. Accumulation of tourism activities has reached the critical stage in most of the tourism centers, which pose serious threats to the natural environment. The Bhyundar Valley of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (NDBR) in Uttarakhand State of the Indian Himalaya is a burning example of such problems. Land use/cover changes, deforestation and accumulation of garbage are some of the negative impacts of unregulated tourism in the valley. Unsustainable activities of tourists and villagers in the valley make such problems very severe. To deal with the ongoing problems and ensure community involvement in tourism management and environmental conservation, the Biosphere Reserve Authority introduced ecotourism in the form of Eco Development Committees (EDCs) in the Bhyundar Valley. Study reveals that many problems associated with tourism have been minimized to some extent with the help of EDCs but few are still prevailing in valley.
