We present a set of cylindrically-symmetric force-free magnetic fields with non-constant scalar function scalar. We found that the kink instability of the fields can be suppressed by reducing the length of the flux tube. By using the pressure profile in coronal magnetic loops obtained on the basis of the observational data, and by neglecting the effect of gravity, these force-free fields ars modified to non-force-free ones. For the plasma of finite conductivity the time and space dependent magnetic fields are obtained, and the ohmic dissipation per unit volume per second is calculated. For the magnetic fields, presented in the investigation, it is also found that, due to the large electrical conductivity of the plasma, the ohmic dissipation is negligable in comparison to the conduction and the radiation loss. Hence, for the energy equilibrium in a coronal loop, the contribution of ohmic dissipation is insignificant.  相似文献

By comparing the light curves in optical, hard x-ray, and soft x-ray wavelengths for 8 well-observed flares, we confirm previous results indicating that the white light flare (WLF) is associated with the flare impulsive phase. The WLF emission peaks within secondsafter the associated hard x-ray peak, and nearly two minutesbefore the 1–8 soft x-ray peak. It is further shown that the peak power in nonthermal electrons above 50 keV is typically an order of magnitudelarger, and the power in 1–8 soft x-rays radiated over 2 strdn at the time of the WLF peak is an order of magnitudesmaller, than the peak WLF power.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation. The gross seismotectonic features for the Burmese-Andaman arc system which defines the northeast margin of the Indian plate are rather well known but variations in the subduction zone geometry along and across the arc and fault pattern within the subducting Indian plate have not been studied. Present workaims to study these by using seismicity data whose results are presented in the form of: (a) Lithospheric across-the-arc sections at about every 100–120 km (approximately one degree latitude apart) covering the 3500 km longBurmese-Andaman arc system, (b) a structure contour map showing the depth tothe top surface of the seismically active lithosphere and (c) interpretationof focal mechanism solutions for 148 Benioff zone earthquakes. Both penetrationdepth and the dip of the Benioff zone vary considerably along the arc in correspondence to the curvature of the fold-thrust belt which varies from concave to convex in different sectors of the arc. Several extensive `Hinge faults' that abut at high angles to the arc orientation, are inferred from aninterpretation of the structure contour map. Active nature of the hinge faultsis established in several areas by their association with earthquakes andcorroborated through fault plane solutions. At shallow level of the Benioffzone along these faults, focal mechanism solutions display left lateral strikeslip movement while at deeper levels reverse fault solutions are common.  相似文献

Crop classification is needed to understand the physiological and climatic requirement of different crops. Kernel-based support vector machines, maximum likelihood and normalised difference vegetation index classification schemes are attempted to evaluate their performances towards crop classification. The linear imaging self-scanning (LISS-IV) multi-spectral sensor data was evaluated for the classification of crop types such as barley, wheat, lentil, mustard, pigeon pea, linseed, corn, pea, sugarcane and other crops and non-crop such as water, sand, built up, fallow land, sparse vegetation and dense vegetation. To determine the spectral separability among crop types, the M-statistic and Jeffries–Matusita (JM) distance methods have been utilised. The results were statistically analysed and compared using Z-test and χ2-test. Statistical analysis showed that the accuracy results using SVMs with polynomial of degrees 5 and 6 were not significantly different and found better than the other classification algorithms.  相似文献

Summary The model of the electrical conductivity distribution within the Bohemian Massif to mid-upper mantle depths was derived from magnetotelluric and magnetic continuum long-period data of the Budkov Observatory (Geophysical Institute, Acad. Sci. Czech Republic., Prague) and from the ISL (Induction Scale Lengths) data of the Prhonice Observatory. The ranges of apparent resistivities in the Bohemian Massif (BM) are compared with those obtained at relevant central European observatories. Cemeteries are known to be associated with soil and groundwater pollution from contaminants in coffin materials. However, possible contamination from embalming fluids such as formaldehyde has not been investigated. Formaldehyde is a recognised carcinogen, which is primarily toxic after inhalation, skin contact or ingestion. Although it is maintained that formaldehyde breaks down into innocuous compounds, this has not been established at sites such as cemeteries where there is a continuous addition of formaldehyde-preserved bodies, sometimes on a daily basis. It is also not confirmed whether different soil types and environmental conditions affect the leaching of formaldehyde into groundwater resources. This study comprises a laboratory study of the leaching potential of formaldehyde through different soils and environmental conditions. Twenty-seven containers with taps were filled with either sandy, silty or clayey soils. Samples of burial materials and a cloth saturated with formalin were buried within each column. These were exposed to conditions simulating that of the environment, i.e. (1) different temperatures, (2) heavy or prolonged rainfall and (3) using either acidic or slightly acid water. Leachate samples were collected every 2 weeks for a period of 24 weeks and analysed for formaldehyde using acid titration. The results showed that most formaldehyde percolated through the soil between week 6 and week 14 of interment, with a greater amount being leached from sand. Neither temperature nor pH affected the amount of formaldehyde leached; however, conditions simulating heavy rainfall facilitated leaching. Although a total of only 3% of the initial amount of formaldehyde mobilised, concentrations of up to 15 mg/L formaldehyde were recorded on two occasions, exceeding the tolerable concentration recommended by the World Health Organisation.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to understand the land use change and urban expansion of Jaipur City of Rajasthan (India). Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI satellite data of 4 years, i.e., 1993, 2000, 2010, and 2015 are used for land use and land surface temperature (LST) analysis. ERDAS Imagine and ArcGIS software are used to conduct the analysis. Urban settlement increased from 13.5 to 57.3% in the study period. Open land is mainly changed to urban areas. Urban settlement is also expanded to peri-urban area of Jaipur City. Jaipur City expanded along three directions i.e., north, west, and south and less development is found in the east direction. Based on radial analysis, it is observed there is not much development within the periphery of 2 km (close to city center) but maximum growth is observed within the distance from 4 to 6 km radius of city center. Expansion intensity was observed highest in the period 2015–2010 from 6 km onwards and reached to a maximum value close to 17 km2/year. In LST analysis, there is less change in extreme temperature, but more areal increase in average temperature range (30–35 °C). Urbanization is the main driving process of land cover changes and consequently changes in LST.  相似文献

Understanding the changes in permeability of soil, when soil is subjected to high confining pressure and flow pressure, which may alter the textural and geomechanical characteristics of soil, is of great importance to many geo-engineering activities such as, construction of high-rise buildings near the coast or the water bodies, earthen dams, pavement subgrades, reservoir, and shallow repositories. It is now possible to evaluate the changes in permeability of soil samples under varying conditions of confining pressure and flow pressure using flexible wall permeameter (FWP). In the present study, investigation was carried out on a cylindrical sample of granular soil employing FWP under varied conditions of confining pressure (σ3)—50–300 kPa, which can simulate the stress conditions equivalent to depth of about 20 m under the earth’s crust, and a flow pressure (fp)—20–120 kPa, which is mainly present near the small earthen embankment dams, landfill liners, and slurry walls near the soft granular soil with high groundwater table. The obtained results indicate a linear relationship between hydraulic conductivity (k) with effective confining pressure (σeff.), k, decreasing linearly with an incremental change in σeff.. Further, k increases significantly with an increase in fp corresponding to each σeff., and q increases significantly with increase in the fp corresponding to each (σ3). It was also observed that corresponding to the low fp of 20 kPa, the reduction in k is nonlinear with σ3. The percentage reduction in k is observed to be 9, 13, and 27% corresponding to σ3 of 50–100, 100–200, and 200-300 kPa, respectively.  相似文献

Phosphorus (P) cycling in mangroves plays an important role in productivity but the magnitude of atmospheric input in the mangrove P budget is still uncertain. This study applied a box model approach to assess P budget in the Indian Sundarban, the world’s largest mangrove ecosystem for conceptual understanding of P cycling and for better representation of transport and transformation of P within the mangrove ecosystem. The P content in the sediment (0.19–0.67 μg g?1) was found much below its maximum retention capacity (322 μg g?1) and was lower than the mean marine sediment (669 μg g?1). The C:N and C:P ratios were correlated (r 2 = 0.66, P < 0.01) and the major fraction of available P was recycled within the organic structure of mangrove ecosystem, thus maintaining productivity through conservation strategies. Atmospheric input accounted for 56.7% of total P input (16.06 Gg year?1) and 50% of total P output (14.7 Gg year?1) was attributed to plant uptake. Budget closing or unaccounted P (1.36 Gg) was only 8.5% of the total input. Two feedback pathways, i.e., input of P from dust fallout and biochemical mineralization of organic matter, significantly affected P availability. The findings of the study suggest that atmospheric deposition is of major importance as a natural and/or anthropogenic forcing function in the Sundarban mangrove system.  相似文献

Long-term Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) data have inherent noise due to clouds and poor atmospheric conditions that limit its applicability for environmental applications. This study was carried out with an objective of noise removal and reconstruction of time series MODIS EVI data (16 day) for the period 2010–2014 using de-noising algorithms. Relative evaluation of de-noising algorithms for smoothing temporal data with ideal noise free data is not possible in actual scenario. Hence, synthetic signals were generated and introduced Gaussian noise at different variance levels for evaluation purpose. Spatial analysis was carried out by introducing noise at different variance levels into the noise free EVI images from the raw EVI stacked image. Spatio-temporal analyses of noise signals in the reconstructed EVI images were evaluated in terms of performance indicators, namely Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio and Mean Square Error.  相似文献
