BV RI data are presented for the majority of steep-spectrum objects in the RC catalog with m R <23.5m. Previously developed programs are applied to these data to estimate the redshifts and ages of the stellar systems of the host galaxies. Applying this program to the color data (BV RI JHK) for distant radio galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts indicates that this approach provides accurate estimates of the redshifts of such radio galaxies, close to those obtained using field galaxies (~20%). The age estimates are much less trustworthy, but a lower limit to the ages of objects that are not very distant (z<1.5) can be determined with certainty. We have identi fied several galaxies whose formal ages exceed the age of the Universe at the corresponding z in simple Cold Dark Matter models for the Universe. The possibility of using such objects to elucidate the role of “dark energy” is discussed. This paradox disappears in models with cosmological constants (Λ terms) equal to 0.6–0.8. 相似文献

Long records of monthly salinity observations along the axis of Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, and Long Island Sound are used
to test a simple advection–dispersion model of the salt distribution in linearly tapered estuaries developed in a previous
paper. We subdivide each estuary into three to five segments, each with linear taper allowing a distributed input of fresh
water, and evaluate the dispersion in each segment. While Delaware Bay has weak dispersion and a classical sigmoidal salinity
structure, Long Island Sound and Chesapeake Bay are more dispersive and have relatively small gradients in the central stretches.
Long Island Sound is distinguished by having a net volume and salt flux out of its low-salinity end resulting in a smaller
range of salinity and increasing axial gradients at its head rather than the usual asymptotic approach to zero salinity. Estimates
of residence times based on model transport coefficients show that Long Island Sound has the most rapid response to fresh-water
flux variations. It also has the largest amplitude cycle in river discharge fluctuation. In combination, these cause the large
seasonal variation in the salinity structure relative to interannual variability in Long Island Sound as compared with Chesapeake
Bay and Delaware Bay. 相似文献

Evros River is the most important river flowing into the North Aegean Sea (eastern Mediterranean) in terms of freshwater discharge,
and the second largest one of Eastern Europe after the Danube River. Salinity and temperature measurements, together with
suspended particulate matter concentrations were obtained in various depths at 14 stations in the adjacent Alexandroupolis
Gulf during four seasons (June 1998, September 1998, February 1999 and March 2000) in order to investigate the particle dynamics
and distributions in the northern Aegean Sea. Analysis of the collected data, together with particle observations under the
scanning electron microscope and study of satellite images showed that, under certain circumstances driven by the hydrological
and wind regime of the area, the Evros River particulate matter, with the associated pollutants, can be transferred far away
from the estuary and implicitly comprise a hazardous factor for the environmental status of the northern Aegean Sea. This
fact, combined with the future construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline, may cause a negative impact on the studied

The structure of H2O-saturated silicate melts, coexisting silicate-saturated aqueous solutions, and supercritical silicate liquids in the system Na2O·4SiO2–H2O has been characterized with the sample at high temperature and pressure in a hydrothermal diamond anvil cell (HDAC). Structural information was obtained with confocal microRaman and with FTIR microscopy. Fluids and melts were examined along pressure-temperature trajectories defined by the isochores of H2O at nominal densities, ρfluid, (from EOS of pure H2O) of 0.90 and 0.78 g/cm3. With ρfluid = 0.78 g/cm3, water-saturated melt and silicate-saturated aqueous fluid coexist to the highest temperature (800 °C) and pressure (677 MPa), whereas with ρfluid = 0.90 g/cm3, a homogeneous single-phase liquid phase exists through the temperature and pressure range (25–800 °C, 0.1–1033 MPa). Less than 5 vol% quartz precipitates near 650 °C in both experimental series, thus driving Na/Si-ratios of melt + fluid phase assemblages to higher values than that of the Na2O·4SiO2 starting material.Molecular H2O (H2O°) and structurally bonded OH groups were observed in coexisting melts and fluids as well as in supercritical liquids. Their OH/(H2O)-ratio is positively correlated with temperature. The OH/(H2O)° in melts is greater than in coexisting fluids. Structural units of Q3, Q2, Q1, and Q0 type are observed in all phases under all conditions. An expression of the form, 12Q3 + 13H2O2Q2 + 6Q1 + 4Q0, describes the equilibrium among those structural units. This equilibrium shifts to the right with increasing pressure and temperature with a ΔH of the reaction near 425 kJ/mol. 相似文献

Neocomian reservoirs in the Mesozoic sedimentary cover of West Siberia have a complex geological structure. Their wedge-like (clinoform) geometry, with abrupt thickness changes and facies diversity (continental, shoreface, and pelagic deposits), causes difficulty in correlation between drilling- and seismics-based sand formations and clay caps. East-wedging (west-dipping) clinoforms consisting of interbedded clay and sand have the greatest reservoir potential in the West Siberian basin. Prediction of new oil and gas plays and their reservoir potential assessment require regional reconstructions in addition to local contour maps of individual zones and fields. However, the simulation technology which has been applied for years to Jurassic regional reservoirs is not fully applicable to the Neocomian clinoform sequences. Therefore we have adapted it correspondingly and suggest new tools to make due regard for the clinoform reservoir structure. The new approach has been tested through computing several structure and thickness contour maps of clinoform sequences for three largest regional Neocomian reservoirs (sub-Sarman, sub-Pim, and sub-Alymka) in northern and arctic West Siberia. 相似文献

Thermodynamic regime of culmination phase of high-grade metamorphism of the Umba nappe (Lapland allochthon) was studied, and peak metamorphic monazite was dated. Based on calculation of end member reactions, the metamorphic assemblages of aluminous gneisses from the upper and lower parts of the nappe are close to equilibrium. The metamorphic conditions of the rocks are estimated to be about 800°C and 7 kbar in its upper part and 9 kbar in its lower part. The formation of orthopyroxene-sillimanite aggregates points to increasing pressure and temperature at the prograde stage of PT path, whereas cordierite rims mark the onset of decompression and cooling. The pressure difference of 2–2.5 kbar identified by thermobarometric methods between aluminous gneisses from the upper and lower parts of the Umba nappe corresponds to a depth gradient about 7.5 km, which agrees with approximate thickness of the Umba nappe. The study of the eclogitelike rocks developed after the rocks of the Paleoproterozoic Kolvitsa gabbronorite massif made it possible to trace the P-T evolution of metamorphsim: the temperature peak of granulite stage (11 kbar, 860°C) was followed by pressure increase (up to 14 kbar and more), and then decompressional cooling due to the exhumation of the Por’ya Guba nappe together with the Kolvitsa Massif. The U-Pb monazite age of 1904 ± 3 Ma obtained for aluminous gneisses from the upper part of the Umba nappe corresponds within error to the timing of metamorphic events determined from metamorphic zircon in the anorthosites of the Kolvitsa Massif (1907 ± 2 Ma) and zircon from aluminous gneisses in the melange zone (1906 ± 3 Ma). These isotopic data confirm the conclusion of simultaneous high-pressure granulite metamorphism in the upper and lower portions of the Umba nappe. 相似文献

Labour shortage was an integral feature of the communist system of economic management and one that seemed most unlikely to
persist in the face of systemic transformation. A casual examination of the unemployment rates that have emerged throughout
most of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) during the course of the past decade might suggest that this early assumption was
correct. However, within the region the aggregate rate of joblessness, as well as the behaviour of national output, mask the
fact that certain, major urban centres appear to have weathered well the storms caused by exposure to western markets and
stringent fiscal and monetary policies. In these centres transformation has meant, to a greater or lesser degree, industrial
modernisation and this begs the question of whether the human capital portfolios of the inherited labour force match up to
the requirements of the new environment. This paper examines the meaning of the concept of labour shortage and presents the
findings from a survey of employers in four leading cities of three major CEE economies designed to elicit if, and how, manpower
requirements are being met in the present climate. The results indicate that, somewhat paradoxically, labour shortage persists
in the more flexible markets of the post-communist era and that firms do not expect the situation to change radically in the
near future.

Damage and parameters of the earthquakes of October 14, 1800, September 18, 1826, and July 7, 1842, in Santiago de Cuba, in southeastern Cuba, have been studied. A quantitative re-evaluation of the size of the events is not feasible due to a lack of data. Hence, we have reinterpreted existing data to establish likely intensities and determine the epicentral region of occurrence. Available data do not permit accurate depth determinations. Intensities estimated from contemporary documentary sources give maximum values of 8, 8–9 and 8 (MSK scale), respectively. These seismic shocks were located in the Southeastern Seismotectonic Province of Cuba, Plate Boundary Zone Caribbean—North Atmerican.
