Comments on the definition of turbulence

Zusammenfassung Es werden Gründe erläutert, die zur Äusserung einer auf dem Begriff der Ergodizität beruhenden Definition der Turbulenz führen. Wir gehen von der Theorie der Unstabilität der Strömung bei Wirkung einer Störung der endlichen Amplitude aus. Es wird das Ergodenproblem im Landauschen Modell der entwickelten Turbulenz behandelt und einige mit der Ergodenhypothese zusammenhängende Folgen erörtert. Als ein Anfangselement gilt für uns der Begriff der Transitivität. Wir beachten auch die Beziehung zwischen der metrischen Transitivität und der Eigenschaft des Durchmischens der Bewegungen sowie die Relation zwischen dem energetischen Storungsspektrum und der Ergodenhypothese.     

Frequency analysis of geomagnetic beating-type pulsations in thepc3 range

Summary The spectral analysis of samples of beating-type pc3 pulsations, recorded at the Budkov Observatory during the summer months of 1968 and 1969 was carried out in the frequency interval10 mHz100 mHz. The average limits of the pulsation frequency range are roughly20 mHz60 mHz. The centre of the occurrence frequency graphs for both components is at the frequency f_g 41 mHz. The analysis of three separated daily intervals showed a very slight tendency to a systematic decrease in the frequency of the centre from the morning to the afternoon. The study of the sense of rotation of the pulsation disturbance vector in the (X, Y)-plane showed an overall predominancy of L over R-types during daytime, particularly during the morning.

Spectral analysis of oscillations with a time-variable frequency

Summary The paper presents a method of evaluating oscillations with a time-variable frequency using a computer. The given function is first interpolated at points which are not distributed equidistantly in time, but the digitizing step varies with time according to a known optional regularity. The spectrum of the obtained function is computed for various of these interpolations and tests are run to determine when the interpolation best compensates the time variation of the frequency. The initial and terminal frequency in the given sample is then determined. The usability of this method with respect to various types of oscillations with a variable frequency and its accuracy in comparison to sonagrams are discussed.     

The use of laboratory measurements of electric resistivity of rocks for evaluating the magnetotelluric method

Summary A profile model of electric resistivity as a function of depth was compiled, the initial parameters being the values of the electric resistivity determined experimentally for basaltic and eclogitic rocks from the Bohemian Massif. The curves of the apparent resistivity were computed for this model and the measure of information evaluated for the various model layers. The dominant influence of the subsurface layer was proved.     

On sweeping frequency impedance measurements

Summary The current spectral density I() dependence on the width of the frequency band and sweep period is studied. The relation between the required accuracy of measurement an the optional parameters of the sweeping process is formulated.

Meteorological microseisms and stratospheric warmings

Summary The meteorological microseisms recorded at Prague are found to be essentially independent of the occurrence of the major midwinter stratospheric warmings. This finding contributes to studying the downward propagation mechanism of some extraterrestrial influences.     

Design of feedback-controlled wide-band seismographs with respect to undesired side-effects

Various modifications of a displacement-sensing seismometer controlled by negative first-order low-pass, first-order high-pass and second-order high-pass feedback are analysed. Undesired side-effects of the frequency-limited feedback on the response of the closed-loop system are investigated. Rules for “optimum tuning” of systems with a flat-displacement or flat-velocity response in a desired period range are given.     

Some possibilities of predicting radio wave absorption in the lower ionosphere

Summary An attempt is made to show possible ways of predicting radio wave absorption in the midlatitude lower ionosphere using relations between absorption and the intensity of solar ionizing radiation and/or common solar activity indices, and between absorption and f₀F2.
