The possibility of the existence, around type-I supernovae, of dust shells which existed before a supernova outburst is considered. None have so far been detected observationally; and any dust around the progenitor radiating in the near infrared would evaporate at outburst. Far infrared observations of the two possible types of progenitor, R Coronae Borealis-type stars and dwarf novae, would be useful to indicate whether there is any dust around them which would survive a supernova outburst.  相似文献

Summary The apparatus for the reception and evaluation of the real-time telemetry (RTT) data on the X-ray flux, measured by the satellite Solrad-9, is briefly described. A comparison of the RTT data obtained with the data published by the authors of the experiment shows a good correlation of the data compared. The results of the comparison of our RTT data with SID data of the Panská Ves Observatory confirm many known facts concerning the response of the lower ionosphere to solar flares and, moreover, seem to support the idea of a less important role of X-rays in the lower ionosphere under slightly disturbed conditions.  相似文献

We present a methodology and a planning and design support software tool for evaluating walkability and pedestrian accessibility of places which are relevant for people’s capabilities, and thus an important component of quality of life in cities. A multicriteria evaluation model, at the core of the decision support system, is used to assign walkability scores to points in urban space. Walkability scores are obtained through algorithms which process spatial data and run the evaluation model in order to derive potential pedestrian routes along the street network, taking into account the quality of urban space on several attributes relevant for walkability. One of its notable characteristics is a certain reversal of perspective in evaluating walkability: the walkability score of a place does not reflect how that place is per se walkable, but instead how and where to can one walk from there, that is to say, what is the walkability the place is endowed with. This evaluation incorporates three intertwined elements: the number of destinations/opportunities reachable by foot, their walking distances, and the quality of the paths to these destinations. In this article, we furthermore demonstrate possible uses of the support system by reporting and discussing the results of a case-study assessment of a project for the Lisbon’s Segunda Circular (Second Ring Road). We show crucial evidence for the Cretaceous–Palaeogene (K–Pg) boundary event recorded within a rare succession deposited in an inner‐platform lagoon on top of a Mesozoic, tropical, intra‐oceanic (western Tethys) Adriatic carbonate platform, which is exposed at Likva cove on the island of Bra? (Croatia). The last terminal Maastrichtian fossils appear within a distinct 10–12 cm thick event bed that is characterised by soft‐sediment bioturbation and rare shocked‐quartz grains, and is interpreted as a distal tsunamite. Directly overlying this is a 2 cm thick reddish‐brown clayey mudstone containing planktonic foraminifera typical of the basal Danian, and with elevated platinum‐group elements in chondritic proportions indicating a clear link to the Chicxulub asteroid impact. These results strongly support the first discovery of a “potential” K–Pg boundary tsunamite on the neighbouring island of Hvar, and these two complementary sections represent probably the most complete record of the event among known distal shallow‐marine successions.  相似文献

Abstract

The development of the River Morava floodplain has been influenced by several natural and anthropogenic factors. This paper focuses on variations in flood activity and channel changes of the River Morava in the region of Strá?nické Pomoraví (southeastern Czech Republic). Floods are analysed in terms of measured peak water stages, Hk (Rohatec, 1886–1920) and peak discharges Qk (Rohatec/Strá?nice, 1921–2010) evaluated with respect to their N-year return period (H N or QN ). The frequency of floods with Qk Q 2 reaches a significant maximum in March, followed by July. According to flood series compiled from 1881 onwards, their frequency peaked in the 1961–1970 decade with the most severe events occurring in July 1997 (Q 100), March 2006 and June 2010 (Q 50). During the study period the natural dynamics of the original anabranching channel patterns were significantly modified by human intervention, such as the abandonment of some anabranching channels, channel straightening, enlargement of the main channel, flood-dike construction, and the creation of the Ba?a shipping channel. These changes resulted in decreased frequency and a reduction in the extent of floodplain inundations compared to the period prior to channel modifications in the 1930s.

Summary A model is discussed for the spectral decomposition of stationary periodic and non-periodic functions, suitable for studying various geophysical signals. The properties of the individual components of the random spectrum of the periodic stationary random function was shown in the geometry of Hilbert space of random quantities, and these were used to construct the periodic continuation of the random stationary function, given in a finite interval.  相似文献

 Experimental modelling methods are used for prediction of deformation and groundwater outflows at the bottom of an open-pit mine during the excavation of brown coal. Thermal gas-bearing artesian water exerts an uplift pressure on the impervious subsoil of the coal seam and threatens the stability of the mine bottom. The breakthrough of the mine bottom would seriously affect the groundwater regime and may endanger mining activities. The mining is carried out within the protection zones of the Carlsbad spa springs. Results of model studies are used to determine protective hydrogeological and mining measures for providing the maximum protection for the open-pit mine and the spa springs. The sediment record from a 5.3-m core from Sargent Mountain Pond, Maine USA indicates strong co-evolutionary relationships among climate, vegetation, soil development, runoff chemistry, lake processes, diatom community, and water and sediment chemistry. Early post-glacial time (16,600–12,500 Cal Yr BP) was dominated by deposition of mineral-rich sediment, low in organic matter and secondary hydroxides of Al and Fe; pollen indicate tundra conditions; diatom taxa indicate pH between 7.5 and 8, and total P concentrations of about 25 μg L−1, favoring higher productivity. Chemical weathering was rapid, with high alkalinity, pH, Ca, and P in runoff. As climate ameliorated, about 12,500 Cal Yr BP, forest vegetation became established; soils would have developed vertical zonation, including organic matter accumulation, and incipient podzolic horizons, with accumulating secondary hydroxides of Al and Fe that sequestered P in the soils. Labile minerals (primarily apatite, Ca5(PO4)3(OH,F,Cl)) became depleted in the soil, further reducing the supply of P to the lake. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) from soil organic matter mobilized Al and Fe to the lake where Al(OH)3 (primarily) and Fe(OH)3 (minor) were precipitated. The sedimenting hydroxides adsorbed P from the water column, further reducing bioavailable P. These long-term trends of moderating climate, and changing terrestrial biology, soils, and aquatic chemistry and phytoplankton were interrupted by the 1,000-year long Younger Dryas cooling, which led to a temporary reversal of these processes, a period that ended with the major onset of Holocene warming. The sequestration of P by soils would have strengthened because of long-term soil acidification and pedogenesis. The lake was transformed from a more productive, high P, high pH, low DOC system into an oligotrophic, relatively low P, acidic, humic lake over a period of 16,600 years, a natural trend that continues. In contrast to many human-affected lakes that become increasingly eutrophic, many lakes become more oligotrophic during their history. The precursors for that are: (1) absence of human land-use in watersheds, (2) bedrock lithology and soil with a paucity of soluble Ca-rich minerals, and (3) vegetation that promotes the accumulation of soil organic matter, podzolization, and increased export of metal-DOC complexes, particularly Al.  相似文献
