Zircon fission-track (FT) and U–Pb analyses were performed on zircon extracted from a pseudotachylyte zone and surrounding rocks of the Asuke Shear Zone (ASZ), Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The U–Pb ages of all four samples are 67–76 Ma, which is interpreted as the formation age of Ryoke granitic rocks along the ASZ. The mean zircon FT age of host rock is 73 ± 7 (2σ) Ma, suggesting a time of initial cooling through the zircon closure temperature. The pseudotachylyte zone however, yielded a zircon FT age of 53 ± 9 (2σ) Ma, statistically different from the age of the host rock. Zircon FTs showed reduced mean lengths and intermediate ages for samples adjacent to the pseudotachylyte zone. Coupled with the new zircon U–Pb ages and previous heat conduction modeling, the present FT data are best interpreted as reflecting paleothermal effects of the frictional heating of the fault. The age for the pseudotachylyte coincides with the change in direction of rotation of the Pacific plate from NW to N which can be considered to initialize the NNE–SSW trending sinistral–extensional ASZ before the Miocene clockwise rotation of SW Japan. The present study demonstrates that a history of fault motions in seismically active regions can be reconstructed by dating pseudotachylytes using zircon FT thermochronology. 相似文献

Meso-scale characteristics of disturbances that bring about atmospheric disasters in pre- and mature monsoon seasons in Bangladesh
are analyzed. Several types of meteorological instruments capable of observations with high temporal and spatial resolutions
were introduced for the first time in this area to capture the meso-scale structure of rainfall systems. We installed an automatic
weather station (AWS) and several automatic raingauges (ARGs) and utilized the weather radar of Bangladesh Meteorological
Department (BMD). From the radar image in the summer of 2001 (16–18 July), a striking feature of the systematic diurnal variation
in this area was elucidated. In these 3 days, the diurnal evolutions of convective activity were remarkably similar to each
other, implying that this pattern can be understood as a typical response of local cloud systems to the diurnal variation
of insolation under some summer monsoon situations. The ARG data show the difference in characteristics of rainfall between
pre- and mature monsoon seasons. The short intense downpour tends to occur more frequently in the pre-monsoon season than
in the mature monsoon season. The pre-monsoon rainfall also has clear diurnal variation with a peak that is more strongly
concentrated in time. In the northern part the rainfall peak is found in between midnight and early morning, while it is observed
in the daytime in central to western parts of the country. Two disaster cases caused by meso-scale disturbances are analyzed.
Although they occurred in the same season, the structures of the cloud systems were largely different from each other. The
disturbance brought about tornadoes on 14 April 2004, consisting of many spherical cloud systems of approximately 20 km size.
On the other hand, another one that caused the tragic river water transport accident on 23 May 2004 had meso-scale rain band
structure. The latter case was captured by the AWS located at Dhaka. Sudden changes in temperature, wind and pressure were

Coexisting sodic augite and omphacite were found in a zoisite amphibolite from the Iratsu epidote amphibolite mass in the
Sanbagawa metamorphic terrain of central Shikoku, Japan. The occurrences of the sodic augite-omphacite pairs are classified
into four types by texture: independent, composite, intergrowth and exsolution types. Sodic augite and omphacite of the independent
and composite types (pair A) have X
Na (=Na/(Na + Ca)) = 0.15 and 0.35, respectively, and were stable in the epidote amphibolite facies during the Sanbagawa progressive
metamorphism. On the other hand, X
Na values of sodic augite and omphacite of the intergrowth and exsolution types (pair B) are 0.10 and 0.44, respectively. The
Na-poor augite and Na-rich omphacite of the pair B were formed by re-equilibration of the pair A at lower temperature. The
pair A of the Iratsu sample suggests that a compositional gap lies between sodic augite and C2/c omphacite under epidote amphibolite
facies conditions, and is in marked contrast to the coexistence of sodic augite and P2/n omphacite reported from some low-grade,
high-pressure metamorphic terrains. A possible phase diagram to explain the chemistry and mode of occurrence of the coexisting

We examined the temporal variations of the geomagnetic field and energetic ions at geosynchronous altitudes associated with substorms during the nighttime using a superposed epoch analysis timed by Pi2 onset. We focused on the first 10 min intervals of Pi2 onset and on subsequent intervals to study the substorm expansion. We conclude that the first 10 min interval of Pi2 onset is a transitional state of the substorm dominated by MHD processes associated with earthward flow and its bifurcation. Intervals of field line variations following the first 10 min were well organized by dipolarization (substorm current wedge) due to the reduced cross-tail current. We also show that energetic ion regions localized in the local time sector from 2000 to 0000 LT in the first 10 min intervals of Pi2 onset expanded to the post-midnight sector, reaching 0400 LT within 20 min after Pi2 onset. We conclude that the expansion of the energetic plasma regions can be attributed to the inflation of the inner magnetosphere during dipolarization. 相似文献

Summary Stress concentration at the bottom of a borehole due to the corners with small radius of curvature in an axial section and
its effect on the azimuth of breakout was studied. To this end, a 3-D finite element analysis was conducted and the stress
around the borehole was examined for boreholes arbitrarily oriented to three principal axes of remote stress. Results show
that, in the case of high strength rock, compressive failure resulting in spalling of a borehole may occur only at the bottom
of the borehole. The spalling can occur continuously with drilling, and results in continuous spalling with depth, i.e., a
breakout. This type of breakout tends to form on one side of the borehole and its orientation is approximately perpendicular
to the orientation of standard breakouts, inferred from the stress concentration due to the cylindrical shape of the borehole. 相似文献

We present high resolution CS and CO maps of Cep A region made with the 45m telescope at Nobeyama. The CS map shows that a dense cloud surrounding the proto-star cluster extends in the North-South direction and is probably rotating. The bipolar molecular flow apparent in the CO maps is well-collimated along East-West direction within 0.2 pc from the proto-stars. On the basis of the two-dimensional theory of elasticity, the theoretical analysis of a vertical, fluid-filled crack intersecting and oblique joint has been made for the extraction of geothermal heat from hot, dry rock masses, where the opening of the joint near a point of intersection and the frictional resistance against slips along the joint are taken into account. The stress intensity factors are evaluated for discussing crack kinking at the upper joint tip, and the sufficient conditions on theinclination of the joint and on the length between the upper joint tip and the point of intersection are obtained for keeping a fluid-filled crack stable just beneath a joint. It is also shown that the volume of the stable reservoir created by using a joint is much larger than that of a fluidfilled crack in a jointless rock mass, even if the joint is oblique and is opened up by the fluid pressure. 相似文献
