ESA’s Gaia mission will collect low resolution spectroscopy in the optical range for ~109 objects. Complete and up-to-date libraries of synthetic stellar spectra are needed to built algorithms aimed to automatically derive the classification and the parametrization of this huge amount of data. In addition, libraries of stellar spectra are one of the main ingredients of stellar population synthesis models, aiming to derive the properties of unresolved stellar populations from their integrated light. We present (a) the newly computed libraries of synthetic spectra built by the Gaia community, covering the whole optical range (300–1100 nm) at medium-high resolution of (0.3 nm) for stars spanning the most different types, from M to O, from A-peculiar to Emission lines to White Dwarfs, and (b) the implementation of those libraries in our SSP code (Tantalo in The Initial Mass Function 50 Years Later, 327:235 2005), exploring different stellar evolution models.  相似文献

Datasets at resolutions many times greater than previously available were used to study aeolian features within Gale Crater. High resolution thermal inertia data allowed for detailed particle size estimation, with the data sufficient to resolve dunefields. A wide range of grain sizes have now been identified in the Gale Crater dunefields, ranging from medium to very coarse sand. High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) and THEMIS VIS data allowed for detailed analysis of the dune morphology and slip-faces, which shows that the dunes have responded to topographic influences on prevailing wind directions under a present day wind regime. This result was corroborated by a regional mesoscale model for the crater under dust storm conditions. The central mound and smaller scale crater floor topography has altered the prevailing wind regime and dune patterns. Aeolian activity has thus played, and continues to play, an important role in shaping many of the present surface features of Gale Crater. The arrival of a future lander mission such as the Mars Science Laboratory would be able to sample these surface features directly and add a wealth of data to the understanding of Gale Crater.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the numerical solution of a coupled geomechanics and a stress-sensitive porous media reservoir flow model. We combine mixed finite elements for Darcy flow and Galerkin finite elements for elasticity. This work focuses on deriving convergence results for the numerical solution of this nonlinear partial differential system. We establish convergence with respect to the L 2-norm for the pressure and for the average fluid velocity and with respect to the H 1-norm for the deformation. Estimates with respect to the L 2-norm for mean stress, which is of special importance since it is used in the computation of permeability for poro-elasticity, can be derived using the estimates in the H 1-norm for the deformation. We start by deriving error estimates in a continuous-in-time setting. A cut-off operator is introduced in the numerical scheme in order to derive convergence. The spatial grids for the discrete approximations of the pressure and deformation do not need be the same. Theoretical convergence error estimates in a discrete-in-time setting are also derived in the scope of this investigation. A numerical example supports the convergence results.  相似文献

We present new thermochronometric analyses of 4 samples from the Western Klamath mountains in California and Oregon, together with a re-evaluation of available geological constraint from a thermo-tectonic perspective. Early Cretaceous cooling of basement samples is seen to reflect significant exhumation by normal faulting, linked to the Separation Episode during which the Klamah region was rifted away from the formerly contiguous Sierra Nevada block. Syn-faulting sedimentation and subsequent Early Cretaceous re-heating of samples establishes the former continuity of scattered Hornbrook Formation remnants as a significant sedimentary basin spanning the Klamath region, with local maximum thickness of at least 5 km. This basin experienced significant inversion during early Cordilleran development around 110–120 Ma, with further unrooting and almost complete eversion in the Late Cretaceous, associated with Laramide uplift of the region.  相似文献

Long-term variations of monthly average maximum and minimum temperature (TMAX and TMIN) and precipitation records in southern Brazil are investigated for the 1913–2006 period. These variations are carefully analyzed for seasonal and annual indices, taken as regional averages. For this purpose, the serial correlation and trend of the indices are investigated using the run and Mann–Kendall tests. The significant trends are obtained from linear least-square fits. The annual and seasonal TMIN indices show significant warming trends with magnitudes (1.7°C per 100 years for annual index) comparable to those reported by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, but lower than those found for the southern Brazil in another previous work. Regarding the two other variables, the indices show significant trends only for summer, being a cooling trend of 0.6°C per 100 years for the TMAX and an increasing trend of 93 mm per 100 years over an average summer precipitation of 367 mm. Concerning the decadal analysis, the 1920s present the lowest annual, autumn, and spring TMIN and the 1990s, the highest ones. The 1970s is the decade with the lowest summer TMAX, and the 1940s the decade with the highest one. The driest decade is the 1940s and the wettest, the 1980s.  相似文献

The ability to confidently measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen (D.O.) in ground water is a key aspect of remedy selection and assessment. Presented here is a comparison of the commonly practiced methods for determining D.O. concentrations in ground water, including colorimetric, membrane-covered electrode, and modified Winkler techniques. The Winkler titration (azide and permanganate modifications) is the most accurate and precise technique for determining D.O. and is appropriate for applications with stringent data quality objectives. In addition, excellent correlation over a wide range of D.O. concentrations was found between Winkler titrations and colorimetric tests using the rhodazine D (below 1 part per million [ppm]) and indigo carmine reagents (above 1 ppm). Electrode measurements represent the simplest method for determining D.O. concentrations on a continuous basis and electrode determinations positively correlate with Winkler results above 1 ppm. Below 1 ppm, electrodes provide only a qualitative measure of low D.O. level, apparently due to slow electrode response.  相似文献

An in situ sediment pore water sampler is described. It can simultaneously and continuously sample at four discrete 1 cm levels at one location without disturbing the sediment or the sample. The sampler can maintain an anaerobic environment, and can be used over extended periods of time. Laboratory tests indicate 98 to 100 percent recoveries for ammonium, silicate, reactive phosphate, nitrate and nitrite. Vertical profiles for ammonium, reactive phosphate and silicate are shown from field studies.  相似文献

Metal ion complex formation constants were determined for several sedimentary humic acids (SHA) derived from a fresh water lake and several coastal marine environments, using a method based on size exclusion chromatography. Only one type of binding site was observed in all cases, and conditional log Kf values of between 5 and 7 (at pH 8, I = 0.01 M) were found. Elemental composition of the SHA was similar to soil HA, except that nitrogen content was significantly higher in the SHA. Other chemical properties of the SHA were consistent with those reported by other workers. While spectroscopic measurements indicated that the SHA may have contained significant amounts of polysaccharide compounds which were not removed by conventional separation and purification procedures, analysis indicated only very low levels of polysaccharides were present in the SHA.  相似文献
